Cool change is my all time favourite song. Not sure why but it's always hit a nerve with me and then I heard John sing it and my heart skipped a beat. LRB when Glenn Shorrock was with them felt like a cohesive group & John Farnham really is a lead/solo artist, it was a huge clash. They felt like his backup band, he felt restricted & needing to push constantly to do what he wanted to do. LRB had broken into the US market when John had struggled & I think they resented him having strong opinions on the direction he wanted to take & not fitting their mould. Egos & personalities meant it was doomed from the start.

One thing with John joining the Little River Band John voice was adaptable to just not his LRB songs but also Glenn’s songs as well . The Little River Band was created as Australian supergroup mostly all the members was already members of another well established Australian bands . LRB formed in 1975 and was managed by John Farnham late best friend manager Glenn Wheatley . LRB set themselves up as harmony soft rock yacht rock band bouncing off American band like The Eagles , The Doobie Brothers , Steely Dan and Fleetwood Mac . So Australians was selling American music back to Americans . LRB was mostly musically controlled by original member rhythm guitarist Graham Goble . Apparently Graham was a control freak which caused some members even its original singer Glenn Shorrock to leave the band in 1982. Graham Goble in 1980 had already had worked with John Farnham writing and producing John’s Uncovered album the album that featured John’s rearrangement of the Beatles Help which was a huge hit in Australia and John was taking his career a little more seriously down more rock path than variety pop that he was doing in the 70’s . Graham Goble was writing songs with John in mind at higher key too high for Glenn to sing . So Graham Goble lobbied for John to join the band . John recorded 3 albums with LRB The Net 1983 , Playing To Win 1984 and No Reins 1986 plus 2 songs that was bonus tracks a Greatest Hits album released in 1982 this album outsold and overshadowed all of John’s LRB albums so LRB American record company pretty much sabotaged John Farnham’s time with LRB with the luck of promotion . They didn’t agree with the change of lead singer. More members left over John being in the band 2 other original members disliked stage presents and antics with the microphone stand and interacting with the crowd . They even stuck John’s microphone stand down to the stage so John was restricted from moving around. Well rightly so John hated it and arguments was common after concerts . With these 2 original members gone in 1984 and replaced by keyboardist David Hirschfelder and Cold Chisel’s drummer Steve Prestwich the musical direction changed for more harder new wave rock which hardcore LRB fans didn’t take too. But this created the blueprint for John’s solo career to kick start again in 1986 with the highly successful Whispering Jack album . When John left in mid 1986 he was already well into making Whispering Jack John also asked keyboardist David Hirschfelder join him as his musical director . And Glenn Wheatley also decided to leave LRB and remind John’s manager until his death in 2021 . Graham Goble was left to put LRB on hiatus after John left until and deal was made with new manager and new recording deal the only catch Glenn Shorrock was to return . Glenn Shorrock stayed for another 2 albums then the more revolving doors of members happened into 1990’s leading to the original members losing the naming rights to the band . So the current LRB isn’t Australian or original members.

The true magic of music is how it hits you when you're in a specific mood. We've (mostly) all experienced a break-up, and how hard songs about it hit. But this was always an incredible song. I hate LRB for the way they treated John over the years he did with them. He did that because Glenn was let go for drinking pretty much full time at the end but they were the stars they told John and he was just the vocalist singing with them. So stand still, stop moving and just sing. I don’t listen to anything they did. I will listen to John singing this song again because it was beautiful. I wish John had made a cover of it when he finally walked away and made his own band. John was always the star but even John didn’t know that. I hope he finally does.
I read that John was asked to join, but after awhile the band wanted John to sing quieter, I suppose because Glen Shorrick was a quieter singer and it suited the US punters ears better , I don't know 🤷🏼♀️🤔. Anyway, John said he was first and foremost a solo artist, and so they parted ways. Don't get me wrong, I did love LRB though, they just had artistic differences. I loved John's Down On The Border while he was with LRB, maybe have a listen to that one 😃👌👏
I’m really torn, absolutely LOVE John Farnham, seen him live many times here in Australia, but When Glenn Shorrock recorded this originally, for me, it was far more believable.

So many Americans "found" John Farnham when this was shown on HBO. For some (like me) it was like the plot to Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

I love this but others can rival this with his other songs , let's just agree we love John and his talent is exceptional.

I hate LRB for the way they treated John over the years he did with them. He did that because Glenn was let go for drinking pretty much full time at the end but they were the stars they told John and he was just the vocalist singing with them. So stand still, stop moving and just sing. I don’t listen to anything they did. I will listen to John singing this song again because it was beautiful. I wish John had made a cover of it when he finally walked away and made his own band. John was always the star but even John didn’t know that. I hope he finally does.
I read that John was asked to join, but after awhile the band wanted John to sing quieter, I suppose because Glen Shorrick was a quieter singer and it suited the US punters ears better , I don't know 🤷🏼♀️🤔. Anyway, John said he was first and foremost a solo artist, and so they parted ways. Don't get me wrong, I did love LRB though, they just had artistic differences. I loved John's Down On The Border while he was with LRB, maybe have a listen to that one 😃👌👏

I’m really torn, absolutely LOVE John Farnham, seen him live many times here in Australia, but When Glenn Shorrock recorded this originally, for me, it was far more believable.
The original singer, Glenn Shorrock, was sacked because of in-house arguing. He was replaced by John Farnham. John is an entertainer and moves all over the stage. Members of LRB were not happy with him doing this and felt he was trying to steal the show. LRB also had crippling debt. John left LRB to go solo again.

It's set too high for him and he is definitely singing like a soloist! Glen Shorrock, the original singer, did this much better! 🧐
It's not set too high for John. Might be too high for Glenn, but not John. Don't get me wrong, Glenn was always great with LRB, but so was John. John always said he wasn't going to be a clone of Glenn. Let it go and appreciate what you've chosen to watch by viewing this reaction.
