It has been a joy watching you discover and fall in love with our "Voice" here in Australia. A few special singers may have an element or two at the same level as John, but no one has every dimension of their art operating at the level this guy does. Tone, from crystalline to whiskey-soaked; timing, from comedic to dramatic; ANY genre, any key, any audience - he commands them all. As a technical singer, he is unsurpassed, and vocal analysts will still be trying to understand the mechanics of how he does what he does many years from now. But anyone who has seen him live will attest his performance presence is every bit equal to his technical brilliance. You cannot take your eyes off him, from the front row to the back of the stadium - if you look around at a Farnham concert, it is almost eerie to see how all eyes remain transfixed on him the entire time. He has worked incredibly hard at his craft, but the sheer mercurial beauty he is able to produce hints that, at times, even John may not know exactly the detail of what he does. He is evidence of powers greater than us in the universe - a conduit that allows us a glimpse of true awe and beauty.

Beeb Birtles the second guitarist takes the higher harmony on this track (and many others) A lot of the LRB fans did not like John joining the band.... the original singer Glenn Shorrock, although a fine vocalist, was pretty much a crooner who 'stayed in his lane' harmonically...unlike Farnham who uses his voice as an instrument (he doesn't actually play an instrument very well...he knows one song on the piano (help) and can strum a guitar) He's what I call a frustrated musician haha.... The bass guitarist (Wayne Nelson) left LRB to join Farnsey's backing band at one point. Great player and equally good singer.

Farnham was a teen pop idol from 1967 until 1979, billed then as Johnny Farnham, but has since forged a career as an adult contemporary singer. His career has mostly been as a solo artist, although he replaced Glenn Shorrock as lead singer of Little River Band from 1982 to 1985.
PS Being a trained singer I love that you understand the difference between singing and growling and both have that uniqueness vocally. John is so clean and I was trained by his backing vocalist Lindsay Field but Jimmy has such a ridiculous range in his own right. Much respect to knowing true vocalist/ singers when you hear them!! 🇦🇺🇦🇺
@@krisiglehart3061 of course he didn't need any lessons because of his God given talent but I certainly did. The knowledge that he imparted was essential when I was developing my sound as a singer. Forever grateful for the opportunity and once in a lifetime, how could I ask for anything more. 🙏
Loved John singing for LRB, I know fans like Glenn Shorock, I think he's fine, but John just blows him out the water. You do hear some members hitting higher notes than John, they were all talented singers in LRB, they produced such beautiful harmonies. Check out their cover of When The War Is Over, one of my favs from the Farnham years. Cheers
Some of my favorite singers have a horn quality to their voices - meaning their voice quality resembles the sound of a good trumpet player. This guy has that quality for sure.
Although John is an incredible vocalist, no one does this song better that the original Glenn Shorrock. The original version is slower than this but boy, what a song!
Yeah so glad you did this one, I only found it a year ago maybe, we know John is so diverse and can sing the phone book, but I'd never heard a jazzy, soul side until I saw this, and those harmonies, so good!!! Thanks for this one.
When he was touring every concert he comes on at 8:30pm and doesn't leave until after the finale at 11pm then charges back out moments later for encores that go 10 more minutes! 6 nights a week, week after week! (the 7th day (Monday) he travelled between towns & cities.
John F became the lead singer of the LRB after their long time singer Glen left the band. John took over the roll as a way to reach out to a younger crowd. But as all that LOVE JF, the front man got more attention then the LRB could take. It was time for a change. His long time manger Glen sold this house to fund JF new album & the group of musicians he took along for the ride for next 30+ years was just music perfection. JF, one of the Best to see LIVE.
@@kane29842 a bit of both really. Glenn wanted the band to take a break/rest. They didn't want to so they grabbed John rather than have a tired front man lacking enthusiasm. So you're right in that Glenn didn't leave but he also didn't want to continue.
To be honest John was not a good match for them and they should of seen that well before they signed him. Their music was polar opposites. For all his undeniable ability, he just didn't fit well with them at all.
I knew it was only a matter of time before you found John's foray into being the front man for Little River Band. He fronted the band just before re-launching his solo career with (among other great albums) 'Whispering Jack' (the album that contained 'You're The Voice' and other great songs). LRB was known for their great harmonies and fans have wanted him back ever since he left. John was a great fit, but he really needed to be let loose to soar.

As for Jimmy, try some of his ballads to hear his softer side. He was lead singer of the band "Cold Chisel" before he went solo. check out some of their songs. They are all brilliant.
“What is wrong with this zombie crowd”… yep, you got me. Damn, laughed hard!
Trying to remember but I think it was an awards night not a concert.
Another suggestion for Little River Band is 'Curiosity killed the Cat'. Glenn Shorrock was the original lead singer. Loved their harmonies.
John is a great singer but when he Joined the Little River Band it wasn't LRB anymore
Both were great in their own right but John was much better as a solo artist
Yes... was hoping you would do this one.
little river is a small town In Victoria about half way between Melbourne and Geelong. the band saw the sign whilst driving past.
John Farnham never took lessons or had any formal training. This was even said by him, it just came naturally to him.
@@krisiglehart3061 of course he didn't need any lessons because of his God given talent but I certainly did. He's a master at his craft and watching him since I was a kid he had the voice that captivated me and when the opportunity came to be taught by his backing vocalist it was a dream come true. The knowledge that he imparted was essential when I was developing my sound as a singer. Forever grateful for the opportunity and once in a lifetime, how could I ask for anything more. 🙏
I like the original version better with Glen Shorrock on main vocals. It was apparently John Lennon and his girlfriend's favourite song.
Cheers
I love Johnny, but Glenn Shorrock was LRB! Listen again to Glenn's version. Cheers mate!
Johns better
@@bryceweezy1Dilusional.
LRB was all about the harmonies of Shorrock, Gobles
You have a great voice!!!
I subscribed coz you do good reactions, especially about our beloved Australian performer's 👍💖
Best reaction videos on TH-cam mate.. keep it up.. would love you to do some Men at Work songs (overkill, little johnny or its a mistake).
Some of my favorite singers have a horn quality to their voices - meaning their voice quality resembles the sound of a good trumpet player. This guy has that quality for sure.
Sometimes it sounds like he's got an echo chamber in there somewhere.
He’s so young there. Baby face
He was only with them from 82-86.
Although John is an incredible vocalist, no one does this song better that the original Glenn Shorrock. The original version is slower than this but boy, what a song!
Please tell me you've listened to 'Its a Long Way There' ???!!!
What a terrific honest reaction from you bro.
Yeah so glad you did this one, I only found it a year ago maybe, we know John is so diverse and can sing the phone book, but I'd never heard a jazzy, soul side until I saw this, and those harmonies, so good!!! Thanks for this one.
The original LRB had Glenn Shorrock as the lead singer...
Need to hear him sing "Please Don't Ask Me"!!
Glenn Shorrock didn't necessarily leave, so much as he was fired so they could BRING John in.
I always said Glenn Sherrock sang this song. John Farham PERFORMED it.
I've seen Little River Band in concert. And it was nothing like this. But then this is South Louisiana! Even the old people are partying donw here!
So...what were they like?
I knew it was only a matter of time before you found John's foray into being the front man for Little River Band. He fronted the band just before re-launching his solo career with (among other great albums) 'Whispering Jack' (the album that contained 'You're The Voice' and other great songs). LRB was known for their great harmonies and fans have wanted him back ever since he left. John was a great fit, but he really needed to be let loose to soar.
You really should check out the acoustic version of playing to win. A much older Farnham absolutely nailed it
Yeah I love that too
This is the song to play fellas (or gals) to get your girl in the mood.
I wonder if he'll do another tour...
Thank you so much for reacting I forgot how amazing John Farnham is👌💯
This man is tapping into some real good music outside of RnB and hiphop. My wife and I play this song so well together, her vocals are so cool, I guitar duet with her just to hear it.
I think the audience was just hypnotised. They made enough noise afterwards :)
