Portugal (Fado Menor) 0:00 - Ancient Era (Guitarra Portuguesa) 1:28 - Medieval Era 5:53 - Industrial Era 10:41 - Atomic Era About this Piece: Fado (meaning "Fate" or "Destiny") is a musical genre originating from Lisbon, Portugal around the 1820s. Though much is unknown about its origins, Fado is traditionally known for its sad lyrics and melancholic melodies. Songs in the style of Fado are about topics ranging from life on the sea to the poor, and people's resignation to their own fates. This sentiment is most often described by the Portuguese word "saudade" (also seen in Brazil's Civ 5 theme "Chega de Saudade"), and this musical genre and its topics have spread to most of what was once the Portuguese Empire. This is indeed true, from a feared colonial power to a peaceful and well respected country today. From mainland Portugal to Angola, Guinea, Mozambique, India, Brazil, the Straight of Malacca, China and Japan. Like you said, Portugal is the gate to the world.
Portugal, in fact, was not a “colonial power”--or even, in a sense, a “European” one; it was a “pluricontinental” entity defined by language, culture, and history. There was in effect no empire, just “one state, single and indivisible” parts of which were “overseas provinces”

Fado Menor ("Minor Fado"):
Minha mãe
Eu canto a noite
Porque o dia me castiga
E é no silêncio das coisas
Que eu encontro voz amiga
Minha mãe
Eu grito a noite
Como um barco se afasta
E naufraga no mar alto
Ao pé da onda mais gasta

Porque as palavras da vida
Já não têm outro mundo

O que fizeste
O que fez o teu amor

Em que me pariste em dor

Minha mãe tão magoado
Que visto a noite em meu corpo

@@captain3413 Ditto.
Thank you Mr. Laurier
As a Portuguese descendant: thank you for this masterpiece. ❤️
Industrial theme is something I’d hear on an old gramophone, making it sound very classic. Very well done indeed
I predict thats going to be great
Upd. I've just lisnted the industrial theme and it's unbelievebly cool! This music as cool as Gran Colombia music!!! Thx you Civ6 developers, I guess that's one is my the most favourite music in the game!
The beats in atomic era sounds like train. I was on the train and leaving all past happiness, or maybe it’s the past on the train that is leaving me behind? I guess that’s what “saudade” means.
Portugal’s ost is my personal favorite throughout civ6. Emotional, tender, and soothing music. Especially the second track, what an intro, shivers down my spine.
The soundtrack for the Ancient and Medieval Eras radiate Portugueseness.
Like, wayyyy more than the ones for the other eras. Seriously they fucking NAILED IT.
Wow the soundtrack is incredible!
As a portuguese man, i aprove this, thank you, you nailed it
Very powerfull nation in Civ. I love to play Portugal.
I was just trying this civ for the very first time and this sound came up. I had to pause the game and enjoy for a couple of minutes. Beautiful music truly.
Civ 6 is very special to me, I wish I could actually pay for the game.
Thank you and I'm sorry.
Geoff did an amazing job on all soundtracks. As Portuguese i could not feel more immersed and truly feeling im playing with my own country. It has everything, a more sad fado menor to a more cheerful fado corrido. A true masterpiece.
I don’t know why but this one made me cry during the middle of my game,
what were you feeling about at the time? did you get saudade?
@João Aurélio yup
Wow, so beautiful! A new favorite for sure - I'll play this Civ just to enjoy the music for the whole game. Thank you!
The civ itself is just as enjoyable to play tbh! Once you get those trade routes and Feitorias going you'll be wondering what to do with all that juicy cash!!
There it is. my favourite soundtrack in Civ6!
Thank u for this firaxis and Portugal. I never knew that this masterpiece exists. Thank u!
Beautiful Fado
Son demasiado buenas, cada era genera una emoción completamente distinta. Es una pasada como la misma canción puede transmitir tantos sentimientos diferentes solo con el uso de instrumentos distintos
Probably the best Portuguese OST i have ever heard!
Even rivalizing with civ 4
As a fan of CIV since CIV II, and as portuguese, couldn't be more proud of the OST choice for the portuguese civilization. So many people finding Fado thanks to a simple decision of including Portugal as a civilization in this amazing game. Thank you Firaxis!
I'm a Filipino and I shared this with my Russian friend. We now both listen to Fado.
I am a Brazilian and absolutely love this piece. I connect with Fado, as we also have some similar music, albeit on our own style. I wish we were more united. The United Kingdom of Brazil and Portugal would be a dream. We were great before, we were an world wide emprie. That is prideful. What I love more about this version is that it reminds me of a heartbeat. Maybe one day our hearts will beat as one again, if not formally but in respect and mutual assistance.
The United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and Algarves*
Isso é impossível, Brasil é soberania sempre.
This is probably one of my favorite songs of the soundtrack yet, amazing work to everyone involved!
*The industrial theme is....perfect...*
The Atomic theme*
I think the Medieval theme is better. It radiates Portuguese culture far more than the others.
last ost of the civ6? my hopes are that it is not! anyway, I look forward to make a cool cover out of it!
I believe they said the free April update was the last one of the season, so I hope for more on the horizon
@@riconade4431 he's talking about Civ 6 in general
@@itsmekrazyb I know, but if they do something like another new frontier pass there might be new osts
We need civ 7 , not 6
2025
Obrigado por honrarem Portugal !!!
Wow the ancient and atomic are amazing. This just became my favorite music
I'm glad that they're using different stuff for the same civs in past games. Overall, the choices they made have been far superior to V. Geoff Knorr really outdid himself.
Honestly my favorite soundtrack, next to Russia's. Civ 6 has always had great soundtracks.
This may actually be my favorite industrial theme wow
One of the best of the Civ vi soundtrack
Portugal (as an idea) is actually one of my biggest dreams to ever experience, the culture, language, literature and the country itself too of course. I don't understand why, but there isn't any other more calming thoughts in my life than actually Portugal, this music helps me order those thoughts a lot:]
@@Luzitanium So Emperor Pedro II wasn't emperor?
@@WooSungChoi who said otherwise?
Such a fucking banger civ 6 has some of the best music and themes
I Think Portugal is the only Civ that has a good soundtrack in all three edition of Civilization IV-VI
I’m begging you to release the Portugal ambient music
Another excellent piece! The music is truly the best part of Civ 6.
The ancient era is beautiful the guitarra portuguesa always make me cry. I recomend for those who like to listen Carlos Paredes - Verdes Anos
or the crazy Movimento Perpetuo from Carlos Paredes
Petition to make geoff knorr a Great Musician in civ 7, cried btw
I can vibe to this.
also, thank you civ devs you are actually awesome developers who actually care about there fans and that's really cool. I will suggest one thing, can I be Rome's leader next time?
Brilliant, as always
Hi tyrion
How can they... do such a masterpiece for quite EVERY civilisation??? This is not a game, thats a full symphonic piece!
The industrial theme.................................
ITS SO GOOD... ITS PERFECT...
