  • The 5 speed rally kart is finished! This homemade go kart with full suspension turned out better than we thought, thanks to its compact size, full suspension, powerful 5 speed 190cc Zongshen pit bike engine, quick steering, and great brakes. In today's episode, we put finishing touches on the Yard Dart- paint it to look like a mini stormtrooper, add black accents, mount our brake pedal in a much safer location, and get some beauty shots of the build!

That's great news!!! I want to see something unique! Like the Phat Tyre y'all built, that was sick!! Also, Charles did a great job with the paint, but honestly, I was disappointed in the white. Gotta try some custom colors, like burnt orange metallic, would've looked AMAZING on the Yard Dart!! Great job guys!! Fan for life, from central New York

I agree with Scott M u could do that or do like u said in the video make your brake actuator out of steel. I think if u do that u can even it up with your gas petal. Only thing with that it's going to actuate a little bit differently than the gas feeder but u shouldn't get hung up quite as bad. My thoughts take it or leave it. All in all been watching your content for years can't wait to see what is to come for u all in 2022.

Great build! Im tbh very worried/concerned about the new brake lever position still, it still could get your foot stuck in the wrongest moment. And tbh i would still place the brake pedal to the left side, driving this kind of fast machine will only benefit from left foot braking, both in safety and laptime terms. (and you can use quick brake/throttle taps to play with weight transfer and make it rotate better into the corner). But then i guess you need to learn some reverse heel n'toe for the clutch and brake operating with left foot, but tbh that's still what i'd go for.
Oh and stickers would look cooler when they're angled/tilted down forwards, but that's really on a silly nitpicking route :)

I've designed many sand rails, buggy's & such, so I have a suggestion for your master cyl. Why not move the cyl farther forward connect it to a peddle with a linkage, i've been successful using a turn buckel for a linkage as well as a perfect linkage with hyme joints threaded into it. It's cheep and replaceable in the field.

@@27Zangle I'm sure your kids would love it. I'm not going to tell you how to parent. But if you want to give them a go. To make it safer you could make an adjustable throttle stop so they can start off with a little bit of throttle like 50% so it cuts back the speed and as they learn to drive it you could progressively give them more. Just a thought. Have a great day :)

    @k.c.s.6347 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

2 things... You are likely to boil the brake fluid, because the line is so close to the engine. When that happens you will have severe brake fade. You have a few junk motorcycles around there. Take a rear master cylinder from one of them, then you can use linkage, and pretty much put the master wherever you need it. You will also be able to make a proper pedal, and lose that janky hand lever.

With all things that dreams are made of the start of a new year and a new season in the cas and cameras world.
In homage to the Mecca that is John's dad's garage where this journey began and on to the new and improved workshop mark 2.
With great power come great responsibility.
I have spoken out before when you built the cross kart and the implications of when things go wrong and given historical reference to these.
As your channel, work/hobby grows as you space, tools and abilities grows so the "this is what you can do in your garage" goes with it.
I still love what you do, but the earthy days of boys and their toys is soon to be but a memory.
Today is the day cars and cameras 2.0 is born everything has to be better than it was before because there is no going back and failure is not an option.

So here's my suggestion for your next build. This dude makes cars out of 200 gallon fuel barrels. Now, before you completely dismiss my suggestion, how cool would it be to take that concept, and put the old CarsandCameras spin on it? Bigger engine, bigger wheels, more aggressive/modern suspension, more than one seat, two barrels side by side? You could do whatever you wanted except the body of the car is a (or more than one?) fuel barrel. Just think about it :)

I have a 2013 Baja 196cc mini bike. Basically stock with torque converter, 3/4 custom exhaust i made.drilled the jets on stock carb. Added electric starter kit using a gutted Dewalt charger with a Dewalt 20v 4AH battery to operate starter to keep weight down. At top speed ut pops and cracks a bit.i notice if I shoot air from air hose directly into carb it clears up. I have a 24v mini blower assbly I am tossing around the ideal of adding the blower so it forces air into the stock air filter assembly do you think that will change the performance of the engine? Also what is best gear combo for top speed on the baja. I am currently getting 40mph top speed.

I’d love it if you shared some more details about the shop, maybe such as the frame vendor (I assume it’s a bolted metal frame, from the look of it) and what sort of stuff you’re putting in it, shelving and such. Maybe a bit on how you’re wiring it for your higher current equipment, welders and such. I assume you’ll get a car lift if you don’t already have it in the works. Im just curious. I’m working on setting up a 32x48 shop for my own car/power sports projects. Just finished insulation after a long year spent on wiring, lighting and studs. So I’m really geeking out about your shop right now. Lol

In the Yard Shark ( big brother to the yard dart, aka version 2 of the design...
What the basic design requires is a very narrow engine so your legs have room to move and wiggle, right? So, when I think of a narrow engine I think; now wait for it; Brace your self now, I think Ducatti.
That design with a Ducatti engine would be beyond bonkers. You could probably sell it to Elon Musk if you live to talk about it. But what an EPIC first build in the big house that would be!

As always, enjoyed the episode. I built mini-bikes and go carts back in the mid 1970's. Question, your "Live Axel" seems to be solid. Zero differential action. In a turn, the outside wheel travels farther than the inside wheel . With a solid axel this can't happen and therefore is fighting to go straight and making the turns more difficult.
On your rail dragster turning wasn't a deal so the Live Axel was perfect. Give this some thought.

I have to say, you need longer vids!!!! Can't see why you can't get more than 15-30min vids out of a weeks worth of work. Just saying. Love watching you guys, would just like to see more.

    Two thoughts.
One, change the name of the yard dart to the yard shark. Mostly cause it sounds cooler and it suits the stickers.
    Two, John, dude, buddy....... haircut.
    Lolololol

Dumb question, but why didn't ya'll just put break lever on shifter lever? like use a putter mallet design. It would have been upright and no cutting. Just a thought. Oh and my wire harness and carb kit just came in the mail for my gy6 motor so I can build my version of this kart. Happy days.

Love your channel guys! I have a suggestion or request. Could you build a multi trimmer engine”module” with 4-5 consumer trimmer engines to one output shaft and power a mini bike or cart? I’ve been dreaming about this for years. I just don’t have the fabrication tooling to put it all together. What do you think?

I had an idea for you guys could try that I would really enjoy and I think others would too. You guys should take your older projects that you raced around the old CarsandCameras Grand Prix like the Yerf Dog, Pugly, The Rat Rad Wagon and all the others as well and time them around the new Grand Prix. Revive all the older projects and give them a spotlight on the leaderboard just for fun. It might be a lengthy video but I think it would be really cool to see. Yard Dart is a top favorite project for me for sure, well done guys and keep up the good work!!

Not real sure WHY you insist on using the brake "lever" as a pedal? WHY not make a matching pedal as the gas, and have IT push on the brake lever??? Your guys "engineering/fabrication" abilities is really terrible
