i've loved Jack Stauber for years. my absolute favorite artist, and a massive inspiration to me. seeing him disappear was upsetting for sure, and at the time i had no idea why'd he'd "throw away" a whole fanbase. Until I got my own, and I saw how strange and disgusting internet people could be. having your work be misinterpreted and grossly disproportionated by "fans" who claim to idolize you across a bunch of platforms can be so disheartening and passion-stomping. it kinda makes you wish you never shared your work in the first place. but there's a passion that you just can't deny, and ones who truly love what you do keep that passion blazing and motivate me to continue. whatever Jack is doing, he still has that passion, and i'd be happy if he never posted publicly again if we knew he was still happy just doin' what he's doin'. he's one of the greats, for sure-- an inspiration to many, again including myself. but he's a human, like all of us. the internet needs to realize that.
Woah! Didn't expect to see you here, though now that I think about it, I can definitely the similarities between your work and Jack's! Just wanna say I really enjoy your content, and even though I'm not the biggest Analog Horror fan, I'm very intrigued and captivated by your work! :D
This is exactly why we figured he left, been fans of his since 2017 and he always seemed like he wanted to be an artists’ artist, not a teenager’s pop idol.
Not really related to Jack Stauber, but same situation happened and is still happening to lemon demon aka Neil Cicierega. His fans are mostly crazy and they worship him as a god, call him their dad only because he has got a child, and acting crazy. And it has gone for a lot of years, 10+. I feel incredibly bad for Jack Stauber and Neil Cicierega, they don’t deserve all of it.
been following him on Patreon for a while, and even though he doesn't address us or talk of any resurgence, he seems to be doing great. he's trying new things, and is still creating music. I really hope he's doing well all around, but everything he's shown us looks really fun to make. : -) love what he does, I hope he has peace and that Pittsburgh's weather is nice. Edit: just want to clarify that I have his $1 tier, and his other one is only $5!
same! i think i've been subscribed since keyman was put on his patreon i believe. he seems to be doing great, but i figured this video was important to make to give some closure to everything
@@e.m.philyaw yea, you're pretty much the only person who's made an video on him lately. I'm glad those who dont buy the Patreon can see this and know he's okay.
Hearing that is a relief honestly i'm glad he's doing well. I don't have enough money to follow a patreon yet but as soon as i get enough to keep up i'm absolutely subscribing to his to see what's been up--
@@spectscrawlz_ yea im just a tape cadet rn but I want to support him more in the future. I also just know he's comfortable bc Patreon shows how many people are giving to him and there's a lot of us, rn Patreon estimates that he has about 2,500 paid members. It also shows how much he makes off of those per month but I dont think I should share that bc it seems invasive for even me to know lol, but just know its a lot and that he's probably living comfortably.
If he quit TH-cam thanks to a rabid fanbase, honestly, I don't blame him at all. I was part of the Basement Transmissions discord as well and I was there to watch the community turn into complete CHAOS. I love Jack, his work inspired me in ways I can't describe. But at the end of the day, he's still a human being who wanted to share his passions and creations with the world, and the people attracted, from what I've seen, make the SONIC FANDOM look tame in comparison at times. I feel awful for the poor guy.
Hey so I'm a frequent chatter in basement transitions and - maybe I'm just lacking self-awareness here - but I don't really get what you mean by rabid and chaos. It's one of the most chill servers I've ever been in. Are you referring to a past era? I joined the server in 2023 for reference.
I once was an obsessive and toxic fan, then I quit discord. Jack inspires a lot of young people, which is awesome, but young people shouldn’t be spending so much time online. During COVID though, many of us didn’t have much of a choice.
I barely use discord if at all and I'm still obsessive and toxic... I just assumed Dad (I mean Jack) was living off Patreon on now and that's why he quit TH-cam.
@@claireschweizer4765 if you know you’re obsessive and toxic, then stop acting that way. Being self-aware does not make you better. You and Jack Stauber do not know each other, so stop calling him ”Dad.” It’s creepy and weird. This type of thing is why he quit TH-cam.
i remember someone making a theory or deducting that keyman's lyrics also reflect on jack stauber's perspective of himself not wanting to be known for a "specific thing" like being called the "vhs music guy" just like how keyman prefers not to be called "the keyman" and also other lyrics like "wrote you a song and now you're singing it wrong" which honestly opened my eyes on his sudden hiatus of posting things in public.
@@chillbrobraggins383 hey man, musicians can always express their sudden situations and struggles through songs, foster the people, will wood, freddie mercury. a lot of these musicians have expressed their inner struggles in lyric through their songs, maybe they don't go out their way to say what struggles they were facing then, but the lyrics are always there up to interpret. is just people having fun and not being weird about it.
I own BASEMENT TRANSMISSIONS. Jack grew up performing at my venue, and I know him very well still to tis day. The guy is outstanding in every way. There has never been another performer as talented as Jack on my stage and I am privileged to have had the honor of seeing him fine tune his craft on my stage. I can also say that he is a great person as well, and still supports the venue to this day. So mad respect to him for that. I can't say why he stopped posting publicly but I can say that he is still making incredible art and music. You can support him on his patreon and find some of his current work there. Cool video Evan,.I enjoyed it.
It's so sad that artists can't have the privacy they deserve. Unfortunately, things like this have been happening for a very long time, starting with paparazzi and with the introduction of internet, the fans themselves. People need to learn that even if you enjoy someone's artwork and think it's amazing, the artists are still human and would more often than not like to be treated as such. Privacy is a right that everyone should have, and it's wrong to infringe on that. Thanks for the great video, Evan ❤
its something pretty foreign to me, i have never felt the need to be friends with someone or get notced by a creator i like, if i did, i have tried, just so i can be a fan of something but i dont really get how someone could get so deep into a parasocial relationship. i though it was because im autistic and dont understand alot of normal things, but i see ND people do it too online and such. idk maybe its a good thing i dont think about people like that.
@@birdcrossing I feel the exact same. I myself have many different artists that I enjoy and follow somewhat closely, but I think the difference between being a fan and being parasocial is when you become infatuated with the artist and build a sort of fabricated relationship. You feel entitled to the artist's time and privacy because of that, and it's a serious problem. Trust me, you're not wrong or strange for thinking that way.
yeah, i agree. its really weird to fantasize/worship some random person who just happens to be somewhat internet famous. those are real people, come on!
Its about the feeling we got from the art of that person, the dedication and practice and love that we cant put by myself but somebody can. I didint realize i like this kind of thigns until he just came up to youtube❤
Idk I think it’s very human to idolise creators of things you love, especially for kids who are having their first experiences finding art that really speaks to them, but in previous years these obsessing kids have had no access to the people making the stuff, and much less access to a wide network of other obsessives who can dig that hole deeper. They’re still learning how to have a healthy relationship with other people and the art they like, and because gen z in particular have been guinea pigs for a new form of social technology for which the long and short term mental and physical effects of using as children are still completely unknown, it’s no wonder it snowballs into some pretty nasty stuff.
I get it; it’s kids trying to be social in an outward way. They don’t know better, yet. That they could, and maybe ought to, just keep their admiration to themselves, that they don’t need to write about it on a social media. It’s like how people go to concerts because they like the artist, since clearly the music being played would never be as good as the official version. It’s being supportive, and looking like it, with the purpose of making themselves feel good for having done it. Only instead of attending a concert, they just write what they think and feel on social media, either at the artist or at fellow audience members or at nobody in particular but expecting/hoping to be seen anyhow. It would probably be weirder to meet someone who *hasn’t* had an enthusiastic hyperfixation/awkward phase as a kid, than to meet someone who has. The difference though, is someone who was open about the fixation at the time instead of just keeping it to themselves/their personality. …Just a guess, anyway.
I was not aware that Jack Stauber was required to keep everyone updated as to his whereabouts, like an offender or something. It's probably a Bo Burnham type thing, we may not hear from him for awhile until one day, when we need him most, he returns.
I like his music. He looks like a very cool dude just being himself, but worshipping him? That crosses the line. He's not your god. He's not a fictional oc. He's human. Idols are human. Treat them like one.
Yes exactly!! I've seen fans in the comments on his patreon theorizing about why hes gone or trying to to get in contact with him and its just so creepy and sad, but this video discusses the topic very respectfully and aware. Thank you, great video, I hope fans (especially the TikTok audience) see this video so they can better understand that he really is just some guy and where he's at is none of our business
(Yap incoming) I feel it really is a gamble to become famous/popular as an indie/alt performer. Whether you create art or music, you can bet your audience will be primarily awkward teens and neurodivergent people. No shade to those demographics (I fall into those categories anyway) but we do tend to have a huge issue with parasocial relationships and just general immaturity. I don't intend to excuse the behavior, but it does make sense, a bullied alt kid with few friends or a confused and scared young adult will definitely latch onto an internet personality that seems just as weird as them and use them as a way to escape the trivialities and struggles of the human condition. It sucks that Jack Stauber felt the need to distance himself, but we really can't blame him. All we can do is analyze, reflect, and better ourselves. Maybe one day he'll return, or maybe we'll help another aspiring artist rise to fame and feel welcomed and safe in their fanbase.
Although what your saying is true and I agree with all of it, I do believe the root cause of this is just simply being chronically online. These kind of behaviors are really only ever present in Chronically online people
its honestly just a symptom of having a young demographic of fans online, not necessarily autistic people. kids dont know how to act bc theyre kids. but some people arent able to handle fame as well as others.
no matter what, Jack Stauber's music will always feel cozy. like a musical hug. Nothing comes closer. It would be nice to have a public upload, but I can live without it.
Similar thing happened with the Tally Hall fanbase :( I hate it because they're a great band but the fanbase is made up of 14 year olds who are so so so disrespectful towards them to the point where I'm embarrassed to admit that I as an adult love their music.
The problem with things like this is that the audiences forget that they are REAL PEOPLE. Not toys, or fictional characters, people. I love Tally Hall so much but their fans can be obnoxious as shit. It's such a shame when an indie act's song gets thrust into popularity on tiktok because that attracts the rabid 14 year olds who make those parasocial relationships.
@@chris-tianmothman I agree. As a big fan of tally hall, I see a trend of that behavior in the community. it's really weird and makes me uncomfortable sometimes.
I only know the band from Ruler of Everything because it was a meme song for a while in some circles. Im not throwing shade at the band since I listen to other alt bands as well that are kinda weird like “I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME” but Ruler of Everything’s lyrics to me feel really “lolz random”. It’s catchy as all hell and has a nice sound to it, but to me it gives the vibe that the type of music they make brings in some of these crowds because it sounds like a song someone would write from Tumblr or Tiktok. But yeah, it is sad when you enjoy a piece of media and the fanbase either has always been or became cringy enough where you dont want to associate with it. That’s how I feel with a lot of things because the community got really cringy or toxic
I think he's one of the coolest musicians to ever do it. The fact he blends media for his music adds onto that for me. I don't blame him for letting his channel take a backseat to being less of a public figure since rabid fanbases are pretty annoying a lot of times lol.
I was super into jack stauber in like early 2020 and micropop had come out the previous year, I really loved his music but left his music scene. I realized who were fans of him and I don’t want to be involved with them 😭
I first found Jack Stauber on TH-cam and thought he is a really cool guy I love his music, but to see so many people saying things like “oh he died” or “he just doesn’t like music anymore” makes it hard for others to enjoy his music. An people should really stop harassing him to post publicly again, I say he can take as much time as he wants before he comes back. Like I said I really love his music and so does a lot of other people, Jack Stauber is one of the best music artists I’ve ever listened to.
i always remember coryxkenshin mentioning how he wouldve been happy with a small community rather than a large one it really is just sad seeing some of the best creators out there be overwhelmed by such people who don't know what boundaries are and don't know when to take a step back from the internet
This is exactly how id like to be ! I want to become a small streamer/youtuber. Streamer wise i wouldnt mind having less than 50 people. In youtube videos getting higher views would be lovely. But the idea of a small community where you remember alot of names is great :)
iirc markiplier said something similar in an interview, about how he felt he could no longer have a genuine connection with his fans now that many more people watch his channel truly sad indeed
I agree with you about the community thing. It makes me so upset, but I knew it would probably happen ever since I heard the news that someone leaked his song. I’ve been worried about this situation for a while now. Especially since Jack is literally my idol and I’m a pretty new fan. I only started listening to his music about 6 months ago, and since then I’ve probably listened to almost all of his songs. Honestly if I were Jack, I would probably have already quit due to the toxic community. Like FR some people in the community just have NO RESPECT. I’ve actually seen comments from some of these people on Jack’s videos and fan channels. Also, the fact that these people use LEAKED SONGS for ANIMATION MEMES and still claim to be “fans” is just ridiculous. Like BRO it’s like they WANT HIM to quit… Imagine working so hard and enjoying your job, but other people just STRAIGHT UP RUIN IT FOR YOU by taking advantage of your work!! It’s just messed up man…
I hated that the song was leaked the worst thing was people making the memes would mention in their desc they just 'learned' about the song being leaked yet they STILL keep it uploaded I get animation takes alot of time but you still need to learn some sources of when you do stuff like music animations.
That's so frickin gross of them :( I guess you never know how good you have something or someone until its gone. Just imagine you share your art out to the world and people treat you like this. It's really unfortunate to have to live on the same planet with people like this...
1:47 There was a night where I dipped into his oldest videos, just to see what he was all about from the beginning. I came across this video expecting it to be another zany solo of his. I was left in tears by the shear atmosphere and lyrics he layed out. That early 20 something vibe being with a friend or friends past nighttime, so much ahead of you that now just feels like a dream. Wherever Jack is now, it was a gift he was here at all.
For anybody who's wondering, the Patreon posts come out exactly once a month, and he doesn't say anything otherwise; just a video and a song. Obviously fame is a completely life-absorbing thing to embrace. Look at what's happening to Chappell Roan! If that really is Jack's reason for going dark, then I'm really happy for him. He already can't do live shows at music festivals like he used to, the town would get mobbed. But there's also a chance he's just... busy. I mean, I would KILL for a new Stauber album, but he said he was majoring in marketing in that one college interview. Maybe he's making use of that degree, and his art is more of a hobby now? Who knows.
He has 3.1 million monthly listeners on Spotify around 10-30k per month (depending on how much his label takes), makes 5k a month on patreon, gets around 4 million TH-cam views per month which is worth 2-8k, +merch sales +other streaming services. so he’s easily making over 300k per year from his art. It’d be crazy for him to have another job, unless he just really likes marketing I suppose lol.
Honestly, I had no idea this was why he had stopped posting. I just kind of assumed he had grown tired and moved on from making music. Also parasocial relationships can turn scary depending on the person. They're also very easy to fall into.
No one else's music makes me feel the way Jack's music makes me feel. I'll forever be grateful for the music he has given us, and I do hope to hear more from him in the future- But more than anything, I hope he's doing alright and I that he does exactly what he needs to do to live a happy life.
Agreed. 3 years for a surrealist and all-encompassing-artist isn’t long at all. David Lynch had a decade plus in between film projects at one point. Art takes time.
This makes a lot of sense, honestly good on him for taking care of himself and not needing to be required to update his fanbase. Communities can be really weird man.
I'm an OG fan of Jack Stauber, and at first seeing his "fandom" flourish excited me! Like, wow! He's getting much needed recognition! Then it got weird, and worse. I was fortunate enough to be a part of Jack's community where the fandom wasn't aggressive, and had a n odd para-social relationship to him. Now it's something I avoid. I enjoy his music, and still do to this day. Jack, wherever you are, I hope you're happy and frolicking in a sea of flowers
Whether people don't realize it or not Jack has been all over the place for such a long time not joking and my favorite song is dead weight and dog nightmare :) I hope he does well
Ppl really need to understand he’s a real person, with real feelings, and a life. He doesn’t have time to constantly worry about his career or fandom, all we can do is hope he will come back someday, doesn’t matter how long it takes, but instead we can just be grateful for the stuff we’ve already gotten from him, because it’s truly amazing.
I love jack stauber, not as a person, but as an artist. I love his art and music, but saying I love HIM I dont mean anything other than his works and as said him as an artist, because I dont know him, he doesnt know I exist. I think this should be normalized, parasocial relationships have gotten so common
When I first discovered Jack in 2018 because of his peppermint video, I had the feeling he had already disappeared. Had the feeling he was some obscure artist which arose in the 90s and never resurfaced. I was surprised to see he was an active creator with a current online presence. I am now not shocked that he has disappeared and I think it will be for a very long time
I found him about 9 months ago from randomly seeing his video rain on TH-cam when I was going through some hard times and it really helped me. I fell in love with his music and art. I am part of you young people who go crazy for his music you talked about and would love for his return. But I had never really looked into why he stopped uploading and this makes a lot of sense. I still listen to his music often and if he takes a break from his career permanently I see I can still enjoy the music he has uploaded. I hope at some point people are not as clingy I think I would be clingy if I knew about him when he was still uploading. If you read this random rant thx.
I think jack’s voice is very nice and he’s really cool. I don’t mind that he’s not making anymore videos, he already has so many videos, so many songs, and so much lore from those songs to figure out. I think that if he continued to make content his fans would grow a LOT, and with a ton of fans, there’s always the weird or uncomfortable ones. If he does make new content someday, I hope people don’t come flooding from the internet to see what he’s created. This video helped me realize that he’s really just a guy. I hope jack’s doing alright now.
I have been a fan of Jack Stauber's music and animations since high school in 2017 or 2018. I have been inspired and respected by him as an artist/musician. Now, I’m 24, and yeah, I can’t blame him for leaving. Popularity and fandoms kill everything it moves. The lesson of the story, I suppose, is to never become popular or gain popularity, even if you don't want to or never planned to, and stick to a small community. For example, a band named Betcha. A small indie band with very little attraction on TH-cam and only one popular song that they made called “GREY SKIES.”
i made my oh klahoma video when i was 14 just for fun not expecting it to get any views but it did and i feel like i had gotten unintentionally wrapped up in jacks fanbase despite not being a part of any fan communities myself. people have (or had) a weird thing with jacks art with mystifying it as "creepy" and picking it apart like some ARG which i always found kind of disrespectful/missing the point. with the sudden explosion of attention he received after tiktok entered the picture i dont blame him for withdrawing. not everyone likes having eyes on them or wants fame and i wish people understood that artists dont owe them anything. im really glad hes still making art
a bit of a thought dump incoming, hope you don’t mind haha- i believe i was also part of that same BT discord group (which is likely how i found this video- i’ve been subscribed ever since! i even remember seeing your old videos back in the early pandemic days LOL) & i can definitely say that all of this info checks out with what i experienced then too. people were just SO weird about this random adult man that happened to make music they liked, giving him “headcanons” and calling him hot/“simping” for him, looking back on it it was such disgusting behavior. all that’s to say the normalization of making artists out to be people they aren’t in online spaces is CRAZY and i don’t understand how people think that behavior is okay? i’ve seen this happen to other people like chappell roan in the modern day, although i would not consider myself a fan of hers (therefore my opinion is one of an outsider) i’ve seen those that do display extremely parasocial behavior towards her, expecting things of her that she cannot do and breaking her boundaries. this video is extremely well-put together & it perfectly conveys my frustrations with the jack stauber “community”! thank you very much for the excellent watch :-)
also a bit of an extra yap i’m throwing into the replies because i feel like it’s unrelated to the original video- to speak from personal experience, i’ve seen this exact phenomenon occur in different communities i’m a part of VERY recently too, specifically the oneyplays-smiling friends joint fandom (for the unaware, oneyplays is a youtube channel for a large group of newgrounds users that play video games together, and smiling friends is a very popular adult swim cartoon). i have seen the same “babygirlification,” for lack of a better word, occur in BOTH communities… it’s so weird how people can project their strange fantasies onto real-life people when we as a species were blessed with the talent of creation- if you want to project just make an original character or something. it’s astonishing to me how humans, as fans of media online, will never learn how to properly respects artists boundaries.
3:00 I still can't believe I never knew who made this song and many others too until a month ago when I discovered Jack stauber like I even watched of his videos like 2 years ago lol but Im glad I discovered this guy
Im glad someone finally made a video on this. I knew he was still active on pateron but I'm a little dissapointed that i don't have money to spare. It's unfortunate but I still hope he's enjoying what he does even if i can't support him anymore
I noticed he really had a passion 4 music and how amazing his singing is and this is the exact thing i wouldve figured happened. Being overwhelmed like that is stressful and i hope hes doing great in private...:((
Seeing you as a kid vibing to Baby Hotline made me feel so old 💀 I first learned about him in 2017 when Pop Food came out because a girl from Tinder told me about it. That time was interesting, because I distinctly remember the album not getting that much play right away. It felt like it was almost a year, or a year later that Tiktok started spamming Buttercup and all of a sudden his music lost that underground allure it'd had. I didn't even know he had a Discord, but I always assumed he left because he seemed to want to be an artists' artist, and likely didn't enjoy all the attention from the Tiktok crowd.
thank you for making this video, I've been enjoying Jack Staubers music for quite some time, few years I believe. I'm glad he's still doing what he's passionate about.
I remember finally realizing how crazy fans can be online and how easily people can dehumanize and be so inconsiderate, most people don't mentally comprehend what they are doing as bad which doesn't help either. You will think you're "the good fan" when in reality you could be just not as bad as another.
amazing video about jack stauber evan. I think that might really be the reason why he's not uploading and I feel really bad about that. I hope he's doing well though and he can keep making his music quietly.
It's late at night but this video was really nice to watch before going to bed, I've been a fan of Jack for a long time similar to you the only difference being i was 16-17, it was truly amazing seeing song after song being uploaded with a nice animation on top to compliment everything, makes me think how naive I was to think it was going to last forever, Opal was so good and genius that it made me hope for maybe full lenght animated movie from him but oh well life happens lol, i'm glad that he's still doing what he loves with the support on Patreon and to be completely honest, although i miss Jack's stuff dearly he still made a name for himself and impacted the music scene with his style and creativity, again, amazing video and hope to see more stuff coming from you in the future
I really hope he's doing okay, I still adore his music. It just sucks that people don't remember that someone popular like that are also humans with real feelings :(
Saw Jack perform at BT once, when I had no idea who he was. Was always wondering if he’d come back, but it’s understandable why he wouldn’t. Someone who used to do little openers for his performances told me that he doesn’t live in his hometown anymore. Good for him! Love all of the stories I have heard from his associates and mentors. People spoke very highly of him, and always noted his passion for certain things and how creative he was. Love the video, and hope that he’s happy doing his thing, as you said.
He’s such a talented artist but people just have to ruin it with there weird parasocial relationships It’s such a shame We can’t have nice things anymore
Honestly this is such a good video, I don’t even mind that jack left, I just feel bad that he HAD to.. he’s such a creative soul and his work is so inspiring! Hope he’s doing well
I love Jack Stauber. I was always a fan. I always got so weirded out when I saw all the fans and how strange they all were. I liked he was getting popular, but the fans were insane. I'd leave too. That being said, I do miss him and his music. I remember being so excited every time he posted. His music really helped me through tough times and I'll always love it. But man, I dont blame him one bit for taking a long time off.
Jack was a big influence on me back in middle school. He got me through a dark era in my life, where I would exclusively listen to him. I know he’s gone for a reason, and I can only hope he’s doing good. Stay safe out there!
I don’t know alot about Jack Stauber but his music has always felt to me like if Yoko Ono and John Lennon actually bothered to make music during their intense Avant-garde phase rather then just being weird for the sake of being weird
My sister saw Jack a few times during his basement show era while she was in college. She even got a cd from the band he was in, “Joose.” I listen to it occasionally
5:03 oh hey, its me lol! (ExoticPumpkin237). And yes I just try to set the record straight where I can, hopefully giving grace to both Jack the human being, and hopefully to his fans too.
You did, it's a very good video and this stuff needed to be said! I just want to be clear that I don't speak for Jack, and I hope he doesn't feel like I've violated his privacy or anything. I just found it very unhealthy how his fans were clinging to his every word and counting the days for him to come back like the second coming of Christ. They STILL get posts like that on the reddit. Like I said they had a whole theory worked out for why his patreon was down and how he'd never come back, it was literally because a Patron posted gore or some weird shit, and he's not terminally online to check that sort of thing.. That's not to mention the weird dude I mentioned, or the other incident with the person making a bunch of bullshit allegations trying to cancel him (later confirmed by their comment history to also have been a bipolar episode, weirdly enough) which also happened around the time he left. It's just constant. And yeah this is the country where John Lennon got murdered in the street by a random loon. It happens all the time. He makes enough money just from Patreon alone and he never wanted to be a "public figure" anyway.
@@tonywords6713 i completely agree with all of this! i really hope jack is doing okay, and i hope this video sits well with him (if he sees it) as i too do not want to invade his privacy. i’ve been in his community since 2018 and seeing how frustrating and pushy all of his fans are, especially after his lift from tik tok and other social media apps is honestly really scary. i have a community of my own due to the music i make and stuff, and as of now am also taking a break from that community on discord and stuff because they’re parasocial and clingy. i hate having mentally unstable 14 year olds thirst over me and what not and im sure jack feels the same way. i do wanna say that i think to some degree he wanted the success, but he didn’t get what he was looking for. he did stuff for adult swim and clearly wants to put on shows for all sorts of people, but unfortunately he got the short end of the stick. he’s just one of many artists who have to face this devastating reality, and it’s extremely depressing.
It's good to see someone making a Jack Stauber video again. I only discovered his channel the same week he released his last video. I remember going back and watching all of his videos. probobly was one of the best times of my life and it's honestly nostalgic now. He's been so inspiring for many people including myself, I hope he's doing well.
I’ve always payed no mind to it. In my honest opinion jack stauber started a weird renaissance of indie pop, picking up back from bands like Phoenix, Tokyo police club, grizzly bear and wolf parade with a bit of the wackiness of brainiac for good measure. What sucks is most of his fans are tik tok zoomers and not music nerds. But if Jack is genuinely fine where he is now I’m fine with it already had a pretty great discography as is.
this always makes me so sad. i bonded with people over him and i’ve loved him for years. people ruin everything. he’s from a town in pennsylvania where i’m from, i loved his art and the homey feel they gave me. it’s so strangely relatabley weird indie kid from pennsylvania who has passion for what they do.
It really sucks how he’s been treated, I’ve been a fan since 2020 (and I’m 15 so I got into him young) and I’ve watched almost everything he’s posted and I’ve been sad without seeing him post (I can’t even afford the Patreon if I could I would tbh even just to give him money to support him) and I can’t imagine being a fan that goes crazy over real people or do it publicly. I obsess over a lot of characters and if it’s a person I keep it in my head or with my friends privately. Anyways all this sucks and I hope he’s doing okay and will come back when/if he’s ready
I remember when "New Normal" was released right at the start of covid. I know I'm not the only one who felt some sort of premonition with it. That the "new normal" would be something that we as fans, both casual and die hard fans, wouldn't particularly like. But I appreciate what he is done. And I'll appreciate anything he may do in the future. He's just a neat dude and a great artist.
I live in the same city as him and saw him getting Starbucks a few times in an area I'm around a lot and crossing the street near my workplace. He's just fine, maybe he's taking a break. Hopefully he releases some art soon. My friend supposes he's doing a collab with a local artist in the burgh who's pretty similar. It feels like I have a cryptid in my area or something lol
Jack is a cool dude that i always listen to his songs and i also have been wondered of where he have been but it turns out there was a reason. This video has a really deep reason
Not just with Jack Stauber. People treating any famous person as a god is stupid. We need to learn to appreciate the art, not the artist himself, since we don't know anything about his personal life (and we don't need to).
Jack stauber was actually the first person to introduce me into the indie types of songs, during my childhood I was mostly around 1990-2000 types of songs since my family tended to love them, but when I was little I was introduced to the internet, most things that were booming and popular was what I watched, but in one of my certain phases I had, jack staubers songs were used, although they gave off a weird core but sad core to me I loved it, still to this day I listen to his beautiful music with such memories to them, his music is like a blossoming flower, it gets the right amount of sun and water and makes the perfect songs
I’ve always just seen Jack Stauber as just a guy honestly- I just feel lucky that we’ve been allowed to listen to and see his artwork. I hope we can hear from him again some day- but I’ll just be happy to know he’s done what he wanted and is now growing outside of the box we seemingly built around him in an attempt to catch his magic in a bottle.
it's always where is jack stauber and never how is jack stauber
I mainly wonder the second one.
It's always where is Jack Stauber, but never how Jack is Stauber....
Both?
think about it…
WHY is Jack Stauber?
So basically he was like “you guys are weird” and then he dipped
Pretty much lmao

i've loved Jack Stauber for years. my absolute favorite artist, and a massive inspiration to me. seeing him disappear was upsetting for sure, and at the time i had no idea why'd he'd "throw away" a whole fanbase.
OMG EXACTLY!! I agree 100%. I’m honestly just disgusted atp.
the internet is a strange place. i’m very grateful that we have been able to witness his art and the passion it holds

If he quit TH-cam thanks to a rabid fanbase, honestly, I don't blame him at all. I was part of the Basement Transmissions discord as well and I was there to watch the community turn into complete CHAOS. I love Jack, his work inspired me in ways I can't describe. i remember someone making a theory or deducting that keyman's lyrics also reflect on jack stauber's perspective of himself not wanting to be known for a "specific thing" like being called the "vhs music guy" just like how keyman prefers not to be called "the keyman" and also other lyrics like "wrote you a song and now you're singing it wrong" which honestly opened my eyes on his sudden hiatus of posting things in public.

I never got weird idolization of artists. Theyre just people, and honestly I probably wouldnt even get along with them in real life lol
yeah, i agree. its really weird to fantasize/worship some random person who just happens to be somewhat internet famous. those are real people, come on!
@@clockhart03need to learn to socialize properly.

I feel it really is a gamble to become famous/popular as an indie/alt performer.
This exactly
Although what your saying is true and I agree with all of it, I do believe the root cause of this is just simply being chronically online. These kind of behaviors are really only ever present in Chronically online people
I had no idea his fan base was this autistic. Now I feel embarrassed I ever brought him up to people
"Yap incoming"😂😂😂🤣

its honestly just a symptom of having a young demographic of fans online, not necessarily autistic people. kids dont know how to act bc theyre kids. but some people arent able to handle fame as well as others.

Similar thing happened with the Tally Hall fanbase :( I hate it because they're a great band but the fanbase is made up of 14 year olds who are so so so disrespectful towards them to the point where I'm embarrassed to admit that I as an adult love their music.
@@BlueCanaryNightLightwho the fuck is making tally hall ships 💀💀💀
The problem with things like this is that the audiences forget that they are REAL PEOPLE. Not toys, or fictional characters, people. I love Tally Hall so much but their fans can be obnoxious as shit. It's such a shame when an indie act's song gets thrust into popularity on tiktok because that attracts the rabid 14 year olds who make those parasocial relationships.
@@chris-tianmothman I agree. As a big fan of tally hall, I see a trend of that behavior in the community. it's really weird and makes me uncomfortable sometimes.
I remember that on IG I commented on a tally hall fan post about my favorite song and I got death threat replies for something as stupid as that 😭
I only know the band from Ruler of Everything because it was a meme song for a while in some circles.
This guy has clearly been through some shit. Leave Jack alone. Be grateful for what he’s given everyone
i always remember coryxkenshin mentioning how he wouldve been happy with a small community rather than a large one
it really is just sad seeing some of the best creators out there be overwhelmed by such people who don't know what boundaries are and don't know when to take a step back from the internet
This is exactly how id like to be ! I want to become a small streamer/youtuber. Streamer wise i wouldnt mind having less than 50 people. In youtube videos getting higher views would be lovely. But the idea of a small community where you remember alot of names is great :)
iirc markiplier said something similar in an interview, about how he felt he could no longer have a genuine connection with his fans now that many more people watch his channel
truly sad indeed

As someone who loved him ever since the youtube memes I do not care if he isnt that public anymore as long as his happy and safe
Frankly, I don't care where the man is or how he's living his life, I just hope he's still making his art and being happy.
Weird Paul made a Threads post a month back or two, he was at the thrift with Jack. According to him, Jack's just been chilling.
popularity is one of the worst things that can happen to a man, even if everyone sees it as a good thing
Eh I'd die for it.
A bullet fell on him while he was running to the doctor
Who knows.
Same.

A small indie band with very little attraction on TH-cam and only one popular song that they made called “GREY SKIES.”
i made my oh klahoma video when i was 14 just for fun not expecting it to get any views but it did and i feel like i had gotten unintentionally wrapped up in jacks fanbase despite not being a part of any fan communities myself. people have (or had) a weird thing with jacks art with mystifying it as "creepy" and picking it apart like some ARG which i always found kind of disrespectful/missing the point. with the sudden explosion of attention he received after tiktok entered the picture i dont blame him for withdrawing. not everyone likes having eyes on them or wants fame and i wish people understood that artists dont owe them anything. im really glad hes still making art

i believe i was also part of that same BT discord group (which is likely how i found this video- i’ve been subscribed ever since! i even remember seeing your old videos back in the early pandemic days LOL) & i can definitely say that all of this info checks out with what i experienced then too. people were just SO weird about this random adult man that happened to make music they liked, giving him “headcanons” and calling him hot/“simping” for him, looking back on it it was such disgusting behavior. all that’s to say the normalization of making artists out to be people they aren’t in online spaces is CRAZY and i don’t understand how people think that behavior is okay? i’ve seen this happen to other people like chappell roan in the modern day, although i would not consider myself a fan of hers (therefore my opinion is one of an outsider) i’ve seen those that do display extremely parasocial behavior towards her, expecting things of her that she cannot do and breaking her boundaries. this video is extremely well-put together & it perfectly conveys my frustrations with the jack stauber “community”! thank you very much for the excellent watch :-)
also a bit of an extra yap i’m throwing into the replies because i feel like it’s unrelated to the original video- to speak from personal experience, i’ve seen this exact phenomenon occur in different communities i’m a part of VERY recently too, specifically the oneyplays-smiling friends joint fandom (for the unaware, oneyplays is a youtube channel for a large group of newgrounds users that play video games together, and smiling friends is a very popular adult swim cartoon). i have seen the same “babygirlification,” for lack of a better word, occur in BOTH communities… it’s so weird how people can project their strange fantasies onto real-life people when we as a species were blessed with the talent of creation- if you want to project just make an original character or something. it’s astonishing to me how humans, as fans of media online, will never learn how to properly respects artists boundaries.
Jack is probably one of if not my MOST favorite music artist, So as a huge jack stauber fan, I'm quite saddened to see this.
I'm glad he's still doing what he's passionate about.
i agree with what you're saying at 9:36 .
Seen him around in pittsburgh, catching the bus and grabbing food. He seems well
I'm glad I was never part of the jack stauber fandom and just like his music lol
It just sucks that people don't remember that someone popular like that are also humans with real feelings :(
Miss this man. His creativity is what helped to fuel mine for so many years. Still watch his stuff and listen to his music when I have art block.
Jack stauber pulled a dani on us😔🙏
Saw Jack perform at BT once, when I had no idea who he was.
He’s such a talented artist but people just have to ruin it with there weird parasocial relationships
It’s such a shame
We can’t have nice things anymore
Man, I'm just glad that he's doing his own thing and it wasn't some horrible reason.
Thank you for telling me something i never could possibly knew, i feel bad for Jack now
Honestly this is such a good video, I don’t even mind that jack left, I just feel bad that he HAD to.. he’s such a creative soul and his work is so inspiring! Hope he’s doing well
It appears that these people have not touched grass a day in their lives.
Thank goodness for the closure.
I don’t know alot about Jack Stauber but his music has always felt to me like if Yoko Ono and John Lennon actually bothered to make music during their intense Avant-garde phase rather then just being weird for the sake of being weird
fair enough
My sister saw Jack a few times during his basement show era while she was in college. She even got a cd from the band he was in, “Joose.” I listen to it occasionally
@@autumn_m00n3 that’s awesome!
i remember getting the hilo cd when it first came out, and while that’s long after the joose days it’s still a relic.
5:03 oh hey, its me lol! (ExoticPumpkin237). And yes I just try to set the record straight where I can, hopefully giving grace to both Jack the human being, and hopefully to his fans too.
@@tonywords6713 thank you so much for your comment. i hope this video does justice for the point you were trying to convey
But if Jack is genuinely fine where he is now I’m fine with it already had a pretty great discography as is.
this always makes me so sad. i bonded with people over him and i’ve loved him for years. people ruin everything. he’s from a town in pennsylvania where i’m from, i loved his art and the homey feel they gave me. it’s so strangely relatabley weird indie kid from pennsylvania who has passion for what they do.
i never wanted to know who he was or be close to him personally or understand his personal life, i just appreciated the art as an artist
love this man’s music hope he’s doing ok whether he comes back or not
It really sucks how he’s been treated, I’ve been a fan since 2020 (and I’m 15 so I got into him young) and I’ve watched almost everything he’s posted and I’ve been sad without seeing him post (I can’t even afford the Patreon if I could I would tbh even just to give him money to support him) and I can’t imagine being a fan that goes crazy over real people or do it publicly.
We need to learn to appreciate the art, not the artist himself, since we don't know anything about his personal life (and we don't need to).
i like that mindset
Jack stauber was actually the first person to introduce me into the indie types of songs, during my childhood I was mostly around 1990-2000 types of songs since my family tended to love them, but when I was little I was introduced to the internet, most things that were booming and popular was what I watched, but in one of my certain phases I had, jack staubers songs were used, although they gave off a weird core but sad core to me I loved it, still to this day I listen to his beautiful music with such memories to them, his music is like a blossoming flower, it gets the right amount of sun and water and makes the perfect songs
This is the perfect explanation for his disappearance, thank you for making this.
