    I thought you weren’t supposed to oil the head bolt threads because it will cause over-torquing

    When you said he cranked it with coolant in the intake I knew then you’re dealing with a farmer...

      That's so funny you said that. I'm from a wheat and cattle ranch. And my uncle would say ok. Drain coolant and oil. Refill them with new. And READY SET GO! GO! GO!! JUST GO TILL SHE BLOWS. THEN IT'S BROKE!

    Wow. Amazing video . I think I need to do this on my old Chinese tractor that is spewing oil out of the dipstick. Obviously significant blow by. Trying to diagnose this thing but pretty sure I’m going to have to pull the head off to get to the bottom of it. Supposedly the tractor only has 105 hours so it is possible that it is just needing a re-torque of the head bolts but if I’m going to the process of taking the rocker arms off seems like I should just go ahead and go one step further and replace the head gasket.

    i'm planning to do the same job on my Nissan excavator with the same engine. I can't find any repairmanual/datas for this K3E engine such as in what order the cylinderhead-screws are tightened and with how much torque. Would appreciate any kind of help, thanks.

      I had a tough time finding info too, but I do remember finding a service manual online, for free, after I had already completed the project. It wasn't on a website, like I am used to seeing. It was simply a document that I saw while searching google. I was at my Buddy's last week and we were talking about this tractor. It is still running good and no issues at all. In this video, I detail the pattern that I used to tighten the bolts and the torques that I put on them. I remember the service manual torque pattern was a little different than I had done, but I had already done it. It is still working just fine and he uses the heck out of this tractor.

    So, what caused the head gasket to fail ??....What did you do so that it won't fail again....

    • @justtinkering6054
      @justtinkering6054  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure why it failed. Hard to say how many hours are on this engine/head gasket. We didn't change anything else on the engine. It's been a few years and he still uses the tractor everyday. Haven't seen any problems since.

    Did you reuse the head bolts. I have a kioti lk3054 that looks identical to this. Has a blown head gasket. Water on exhaust side. It has a new gasket prior to me buying it, but the problem is still there. I read something about the bolts being torque yield and needing to be replaced every time. Heard of anything like that?

    • @justtinkering6054
      @justtinkering6054  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There is ALOT that I don't know about engines. I know that most folks recommend replacing head bolts anytime you take any engine apart. I don't usually replace head bolts, but most of the stuff that I work on isn't critical or expensive. I reused the same head bolts on this tractor. I belongs to a friend and he tries to keep things on a low budget. We did this whole project pretty cheap and it worked out fine. He still uses this tractor, nearly every day, and it is still going strong. He has had no more issues out of the head gasket. As far as "torque yield" bolts, I don't know anything about that. I have always heard that head bolts stretch a little when you torque them down.

    I recently bought one of these tractors. Hopefully good luck with it. Where can I get parts for this engine? I have a leaky water pump. Thanks. Good video man!

      Thank you. My buddy uses this tractor nearly every day and it is still running good. It has been almost a year since we did any work on it. He really likes it. I did another video of rebuilding the hydraulic cylinders on the loader. I think we got those parts from Messick's. This video was about replacing the head gasket. We got the head gasket from Southern Global Tractor Parts.

    Picked up a Massey 1020 really cheap, the oil is like goooo/sludge. I think it is head gasket problem. What is "blowby"? I think the motor is a Perkins 3 cyl, is it similar to this motor? Where is best place to order the gasket? Thanks

      blowby is when the pressure from the engine case (Oil pan area) leaks out of areas it shouldn't. Typically the Intake pulls fuel into the cylinders using negative pressure (Vacuum) from the Pistons as they go "Down" causing suction (Negative Pressure) . When the piston is making vacuum, Inside the oilpan area and case it creates positive pressure. Blowby is when that positive pressure leaks into the intake causing vapor lock, poor vacuum, or lack of fuel "Suction"
