My dad was a career mechanic and my mum worked nights as a nurse... when I was a little kid I spent many a Sat morning in the garage with Dad watching him working on all sorts of things... this video gave me such a nostalgic feeling of my childhood! Cheers Marty for inadvertantly bringing back fond childhood memories for me... just by watching you strip down that gearbox :)

Looking at the way it came apart I would say this machine was looked after with proper oil changes and had a bit of bad luck with the geer box, I owned a 7100 for years and used it a lot on a orchard, the biggest issue was it was prone to over heating and cracking the cylinder head. Take good care of this one Marty and it will last a long time also a great learner for the kids.

The 2 reasons why I believe this is A- there's no way Mrs T allowed you to get another tractor, and
B- there's no way you have any room to strip down a tractor in your shed.

Fun to watch. Here in the U.S. if we tear into a transmission that deep we just replace all bearing and seals. Lot of work to get into it and all of the original bearings have same time and abuse on them. Some have already failed but we wouldn't trust the others to not fail soon.

We used to do that on rotor transmissions and GE T58 turboshaft changes on Coast Guard Sikorski HH52a Seaguard amphibious helos.
Lots of Polaroid pics every time because of occasional modifications ARSC would do on us and not always send manual addendum about them sent along with the rebuilt assemblies.
Only way to be certain everything went back correctly was lots of pictures.
Q&A loved them before and after the swaps.

    Ouch.
When Gear Noise in a tractor is much louder in reverse it's usually worn differential spider gears and shafts. The hole in the spider gears wear cone shaped and when in reverse the gears do not mesh properly. If you don't replace the gears they will eventually bind up and either rip the teeth off or the gears will blow apart.

@@MartyT I’ve watched you for a few years now, you’re awesome at what you do,bloody tinny at picking up deals too I might add,I noticed something, could be wrong but thought to mention it,having a tooth flying around in there was not optimal when it broke off, things get hurt.

I have a parts list breakdown for that model. I got one straight from Japan 20 years ago. Gray model. Had to rebuild the front end, bearings and seals. 2 years ago changed the throw out bearing and clutch. You can get most parts from kubota I believe. Really good little tractor. Pull logs, cut grass, made a front end loader for it. Took an old backhoe off a ditch witch and mated it to it. It’s a little work horse.

@@MartyT Kubota says 16hp but anyone who has owned one will tell you it closer to 20. I was told by someone in Canada that they are rated at 20 in Japan but the ones they ship overseas are supposed to be 16. I have talked to a couple of people who have USA models and they will tell you it's closer to 20. For some reason the hp was under rated I think.

Damn fine work marty, looking forward to part 2.

Hello Marty, dont forget to check if the transmission forks are straight and the thickness is on the specs. It's not unusual to bend those forks when there's missing teeth on the gears.
