The extra weight may help with the Shaw Classic. Every bit of strength for those heavy events helps. Also, it's kinda ironic that the stronger you get the easier you get injured. One of those unfortunate facts of life.
I just found you and loving your videos. I am learning a lot, especially about Axel cleans. I have a question though that i really need help with. I'm sitting around 250lbs bodyweight and every time i perform any push press my knees hate me immensely. My personal best is 355lbs behind the neck Axel push press, but i feel my knees even anywhere between 140-250. Any tips to help with that would be much appreciated! Thanks. also, my ankle range of motion is terrible due to broken bones in the past. That's a constant battle.
Everytime the speed debate comes up I always wonder, why not train lighter weights for speed as you are ramping up to your top sets on your heavy week, and do a useful variation (like Thor's pauses or Hicks' box squats) at a significantly lighter, comparably, weight on your light week. That Shethar guy is absolute and only the Sith deal in absolutes, but one counter to your argument would basically be: why waste an entire week for something that can be incorporated in normal training days. One could also argue that you're basically just taking a week off of strength work and just practicing the movement, and that it's not the speed work per se that is improving your work, rather better recovery and more movement practice at insignificant loads. Also, you can see the difference in speed in rank novices in their first squat sessions. Some people just move faster that others by default, regardless of leverages. I don't know exactly how much dedicated speed days would change that, and if it's just marginal then why bother.
Hold on now, im getting huge straw manned here lol. I absolutely agree that compensatory acceleration should be applied to warm ups as you said and I am not dealing in absolutes to the slightest in my dm where i talked about it with lucas i even said i think that speed work is an integral part of their training system and has an important roll within strongman training lol
Yall doing me so dirty in this one lmfao 😂
