The most interesting weakness in the Black claim to the throne is neither Rhaenyra or Viserys - book or show, take your pick - ever put much effort to bringing the nobility around to Rhaenyra's claim. Both seemed to take the grand ceremony as settled, when in reality even petty nobles have deeply entrenched ideas of what a ruler needs to be, and even with dragons behind you need to be won. The blacks never bothered with this, to their cost. Nothing more demonstrates this than sending a scroll to Lord Baratheon, and he can't read. I love Viserys is the perfect embodiment of how “It is hard for a good man to be a good king.” Viserys didn’t have grand ambitious visions or dreams of power, he just wanted to have a happy and united family, a peaceful life, and for everyone to get along. So he refused to accept his family tearing itself apart. Had he been a small lord from a small house, he probably would’ve been remembered as a fair, honest, and good lord. Instead, history will remember him as a naive fool who let his kingdom tear itself apart.
How the most compelling and emotional scene between both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon is unironically "old man sits on chair" is nothing short of amazing

I think the dramatic narrative of the adapted Fire and Blood which we see in HOTD is more effective. The writers of that show have made tremendously smart decisions to deepen the characters and sharpen the conflicts between them. Such great writing and dramaturgy. Paddy should’ve gotten an Emmy. Hell, an Oscar.
Paddy was fully availed of the unique opportunity this show represented. Being able to interpret in such a broad sense was hopefully deeply fufilling for him. @@alfieingrouille1528 Everything taken while the show is running has to be with a grain of salt, especially when he's involved in the production of said show.
I never understand why people call it sacrificing... Viserys had two choices during that cesarian scene in the series: either his wife and kid both die, or his wife dies and his child has a chance to live. By that point, Aemma was already dead either way. TBF, it was still quite fucked up to not present the option to her, but let her be essentially tortured without letting her know what was going on. Now, getting her pregnant at *twelve* , when people even in that world know perfectly well that getting a girl pregnant too early is dangerous and leads to future fertility issues, and forcing her through like a dozen pregnancies during about as many years... *that* is fucked up, and was very much done by the guy in the books.
@@eldara3I've always felt the same way. Even the name of the track playing was An Impossible Choice. GRRM has... issues relating to this, considering just how many Targaryens that this is also true for (You also have Jaehaerys forcing more kids on Alysanne when she clearly protests, which kills her, which is basically the same problem in the opposite direction). I think he has some fairly bad misunderstandings of how the world worked in history, because people *were* aware of this. Young marriages were never intended to be consummated until the bride was old enough. You can even see looking at the age of various royal mothers in those eras of history; the average age of their firstborn isn't 14, or even 16. It's *20*.
Was I the only one who thought Viserys was saying that Aegon, the younger, son of Rhaenyra & Daemon, was the Prince-who-was-Promised, (ie, 'skip over your bastards, daughter, and name your eldest trueborn son as heir') as he was dying?
Jager bombs?! I'm not good with accent so I'm guessing you are British or German😂😂😂 love the channel by the way! I'm either listening at work or at the gym!
I absolutely LOVED Viserys!!! Your genealogy knowledge is impressive. I suppose making a Frey family tree would require skill. And, isn't it badass that Viserys rode Balerion? I believe it was appendicitis that iilled Baelon the Brave.
The only way the dance could've been avoided is if Old Jaherys Married viserys with the Queen who never was raenys. It all unfold before his eyes but the old king couldn't see it, bit like they portraid viserys in the show in fact.
You know the book version of events - particularly how there's a divide between Rhaenyra or Aegon succeeding and Alicent suggesting their marriage as a solution - gives Alicent more credibility. It's far more understandable how she'd be pissed. Her acceptable suggestion is just overlooked. And don't say that F&B is green propaganda and that's why she's more justified, because that's just not true. The primary sources are varied and the author himself lived well after the dance.
I always assumed the reason Rheanys wasn’t at the last supper was because she was standing as somewhat of a vigil for Ser Veamond? The scene where she witnesses his embalming occurs directly before and could be perceived as happening at the same time as the supper.
The fact that Paddy Constantine didnt win an emmy is a crime. He brought such a depth and gravitas to the character that he literally had GRRM himself proudly admit his version was inferior.
Jokes aside, seeing a character from a book that is FAR better in a show adaptation is something that you don't see every day, and yes viserys in both book and show are FAR from being the best king (especially book viserys) but you gotta admit that they are also far from being the worst king, yust look at joffrey, Robert, aegon IV and tommen, he may be indecisive in some cases but he doesn't neglect his kingdom and duties
A noticeable thing you missed is in the books it is a lot more unclear whether Rhyaenera children are bastards as Rhaeyns, their grandmother, does have brown hair.
I️ think the most ironic character is Sir Criston Cole, who was pissed that Rhaenyra did not marry him and was just hooking up with him but then has no problem becoming Alicent Hightower’s side piece without marrying him. lol
I like the Show version, but that's because I enjoy the actor's work. Both versions are terrible Kings, but show version is a slightly better father. Both did things that only increased the tension in the court. Both were weak men. I guess the only significant difference is the depth the actor gave show version a bit More depth. Hopefully that makes sense.
Though it's probably morally wrong; for the good of the realm, Viserys should have officially switched his successor to Aegon upon his birth. As there was always going to be issues.
I have a lot of issues with hot d, but Visey T is not one of them. He's the only one who can really remind me about the glory days of watching the original four seasons
Given that GRRM apparently told Paddy Considine himself that his portrayal of Viserys was better than his creation, I vote that PC's version officially be declared ASOIAF canon. Any seconds?
I think it’s important to note that Viserys always referred to rhaenyras children as his rightful grandchildren. It doesn’t matter to him who the father is, they are his blood regardless.
Probably one of the ONLY characters that is more complex and deep compared to his book counterpart, atleast I think so anyway. Thanks a lot for the great video Haven!

A video about viserys let's Go
Was I the only one who thought Viserys was saying that Aegon, the younger, son of Rhaenyra & Daemon, was the Prince-who-was-Promised, (ie, 'skip over your bastards, daughter, and name your eldest trueborn son as heir') as he was dying?
I like the ambiguity of Jace, Luc, & Joff's parentage as their dark hair is attributed to their grandmother, Rhaenys & her Baratheon features.
Jager bombs?! I'm not good with accent so I'm guessing you are British or German😂😂😂 love the channel by the way! I'm either listening at work or at the gym!
I'm British! Glad you enjoyed the vids
the trag family 'tree, is less of a tree but a ball of bundled up yawn and barb wire
A dragon can not be reserved. It’s first come first serve. Deamon needs to give his children dragon lessons.
Hey Haven! How about a tierlist on Kingsguard knights?
Cool idea!
I haven't been this early since TH-cam sent me notifications
I absolutely LOVED Viserys!!! Your genealogy knowledge is impressive. I suppose making a Frey family tree would require skill. And, isn't it badass that Viserys rode Balerion? I believe it was appendicitis that iilled Baelon the Brave.
Paddy is the real Viserys. Even GRRM said his version was better.
Exactly
No, obviously book Viserys is the true canon Viserys.
@@DanLanningPRTeamOK buddy your arguing with the litteral author of the character who know better than you ok I guess😂😂😂😂
@@DanLanningPRTeamGeorge himself disagrees
The only way the dance could've been avoided is if Old Jaherys Married viserys with the Queen who never was raenys.
It all unfold before his eyes but the old king couldn't see it, bit like they portraid viserys in the show in fact.
They were all married off by the time the heirs ahead of them died. The Dance was inevitable.
Vizzy T just killed me to begin with
Refusing to be reminded of GOT season 8, that line had me laughing out loud 😂
Paddy Considine elevated HoD and made me love ASoIaF again.
A reserved Dragon is so dumb big up Aemond for claiming Vhagar
HOTD Viserys: Leprosy
Book Viserys: Fat
The fact that Paddy Constantine didnt win an emmy is a crime. He brought such a depth and gravitas to the character that he literally had GRRM himself proudly admit his version was inferior.
I appreciate the ASOIAF accurate Targaryen tapestry 😅
Jokes aside, seeing a character from a book that is FAR better in a show adaptation is something that you don't see every day, and yes viserys in both book and show are FAR from being the best king (especially book viserys) but you gotta admit that they are also far from being the worst king, yust look at joffrey, Robert, aegon IV and tommen, he may be indecisive in some cases but he doesn't neglect his kingdom and duties
wow I didn't even pick up that he'd lost his arm XD oh my god
A noticeable thing you missed is in the books it is a lot more unclear whether Rhyaenera children are bastards as Rhaeyns, their grandmother, does have brown hair.
I️ think the most ironic character is Sir Criston Cole, who was pissed that Rhaenyra did not marry him and was just hooking up with him but then has no problem becoming Alicent Hightower’s side piece without marrying him. lol
Yeaaahhh Haven is Back !
Lyonel Strong is the Best hand I will mention this in every youtube video he appears 😊
I never new he was missing an arm wtf how did I miss that
Man that’s some booba on Rhaenyra lol
Otherwise good video. Definitely subbed
The creators claimed Daeron would be present in S2 so
"Aemond claims the dragon reserved for Rhaena" ???? Bro what
I like the Show version, but that's because I enjoy the actor's work.
Paddy Considine did an Extordinary job.
The book is 3rd person account of what happened at this point. The show is actually what happened due to a lot of these people being killed.
I have a lot of issues with hot d, but Visey T is not one of them.
He's the only one who can really remind me about the glory days of watching the original four seasons
I learn naughty words when watching your videos. Are there enough nicknames in ASOIAF to rank them in a livestream? :D Crowfood makes me smirk
Jarharis could have just said “if I don’t bear any male heirs then rhasaris will become the queen” and the whole dance could have been avoided.
The only mercy viserys got was when his family reconciled and I believe he died that night because his family finally reconciled he got to die happy
Probably one of the ONLY characters that is more complex and deep compared to his book counterpart, atleast I think so anyway. Thanks a lot for the great video Haven!
