So, after venting about the adorableness and pureness of hephaistus (i was right btw, he did took a breath and yelled in anger, he did so to his sister because he want to talk with her one last time), this is an extremely cool story, because for once the evil might not be a living planet.
There are a three possibilties here on the story:
1: The enemy is one of the planets that ciclically awakens and "devours" one of the others, maybe a rogue planet since its speak of something appearing from the darkness, floating.
2: it speaks of aliens who colonized the system and slowly killed and are killing the planets and moons, this civilization is at war with each other, or there was a war, since tartarus is a prison. This makes sense in the context of what Hephaestus said "the others have seen things like you ad well" (also i cant express how adorable and pure ephaestus is, pls dont make him the bad guy)
3: the previous civilization was a branch of humanity or a previous timeline hunanity, keep in mind the last message said "humanities", not "humanity". I am still trying to translate the morse code at the end tho.
    Is this necessary? No
Is this channel small compared to the big 2? Yes
Do i care? No because this story is incredible and well done and deserves attention

This is a very good interpretation of the story and where it will go! I thought though that Hephaistos was referring to the rover. It speaks to it over time and that's what I think it meant "appearing from the darkness" it was the rover floating in space, orbiting the planets before landing. Hephaistos was overjoyed since it was the first thing in so long they have seen that wasn't the pure darkness of space.

    • @michelecastellotti9172

@@friskoo5033 yes, but he speaks about others doing the same thing as the rover and it knows what the rover does, or rather what its purpose is, so another covilization has sent scouting machines on him before, we know that there is an alien race in this system, and i think that it might be at fault for the death of the moons and planets.
Hephaestus is definetely happy to have something to talk with, it knows it listens and its friendly, but notice how it says "bait" on the crater, why would it need to bait it? Why not talk to it immediatedly? If you ask me, it was because it wanted to know if it was a scout of that other race or it was something friendly.

Small correction: if another planet continuously shows up to devour the others, it couldn't be a rogue planet, because it would need to be captured in orbit to return periodically. It'd probably be a planet with a highly elliptical orbit, that goes way outside of the sensory range of the others, perhaps. Though it'd probably have some ability to change its trajectory, if it had to come near the others, unless however it kills them uses some long range mechanism. I dunno.

as this analog horror planet saga continues, it just kinda becomes heartbreaking more than just scary and eldritch, this video especially
Hephaistos seems to be lonely in the endless void of space, with its "sister" seemingly going quiet for reasons unknown
it seemingly kept our little rover as a pet, and, much like a human pet, it lived for a fraction of Hephaistos' life, which is surely counted in millenia, and it does say it's been "a short while" when humans on Earth had been keeping track of this for several years, which would feel like days to a being like this, at most
and then humans just accept the rover as lost, deem the mission a success for our progress into the stars, but Hephaistos is back to that same eons-long loneliness, which, really, is no different than any other person, except for the fact that humans live and die in a blink of this thing's eyes (if it has any)

it seems like Hephaistos has been trying to communicate with the other planets, but for some reason is unable to, though it's clear that is has at some point. it makes me wonder if it was true communication or not though, assuming this system was created in a similar way as our own, then all the planets would have been massive conjoined disks of dust and rock back in it's history. so what if Hephaistos is remembering that time as a form of primordial womb, when it was conjoined/protected by it's "siblings" and misconstrued this early memory (because who knows how sentient or even alive the planet was during this time) as being in direct communication with the other planets.
of course we could also take this literally and assume the planets had some sort of long range natural (or artificial?) communication, but for some reason Hephaistos's "sister" (which I assume is Caerulus) stopped responding. which then makes me wonder about the life forms on Hathor, which seem to be at least some sort of technological civilization. they obviously are aware of our expeditions into their system, and given the quotes "we can't get too close, we're lucky, thank God" from the video "Planetary Electromagnetic Waves" it's pretty clear that we don't want to interact with them. so perhapse the other planets stopped talking to each other (or Hephaistos specifically) because of whatever is on Hathor's surface. then you bring the living moons into the mix (one being dead of course) making this one hell of a series already full of petential.

Now that I'm starting to understand more of the lore, the series is really starting to win me over! I love the idea of a series of explorations of this nearby, apparently-sentient star system, and the Artbreeder images continue to work really well! There are two really strong suggestions I want to recommend: first, make sure that the text is layered *UNDER* the static (if it's over the static like it has been in the last few episodes, it ends up looking like it isn't part of the tape, destroying the immersion). Second, I'd recommend that you find some way of distinguishing between when mission control is speaking and when the aliens/planets are speaking; when it all blends together like this it can be hard to tell who's who, especially since the mission control dialogue is already kind of stilted. Other than that, definitely a solid installment!!

    [[[SPOILER ALERT!!
Hephaistos (1st Brother) is a lone green planet floating around in the darkness all alone
Hephaistos is as curious as we are, so when Upsilon 87 reached the Floralis crater, Hephaistos captured it in order to study the Upsilon 87 rover.
Hephaistos thinks the rover is alive, and thus talks to the rover, since Hephaistos is lonely and has nobody to talk to.
Hephaistos is easily fascinated, and thinks the arrival, the actions or the behavior of the rover to be interesting.
When Upsilon 87 was starting to run out of fuel (or dying), Hephaistos protects the rover because he treats it like a real person, and keeps the rover a secret.
Then, Hephaistos finally meets Caerulus (1st sister) again, and Hephaistos desperately requests Caerulus to comfort him, but Caerulus does not respond.
Then at the end of the video, we got morse code which says "what are you hiding, first brother", which may mean that Caerulus wants to find out about Upsilon 87, the rover that Hephaistos is secretly protecting, or Hephaistos may be hiding more things or his own emotions
So now we learn that Hephaistos is very lonely, longing for love, curious, protective and secretive
While Caerulus might be less lonely, as curious, but more cold (lacking affection or warmth of feeling; unemotional)

The series so far has been pretty emersive and the style (be it the analog horror genre) is still unique in it's many ways. I do have to say though, im digging this old school Doom esq exploration of the "map" , using the beckons to show the advancement of the devices sent out to explore.

The rover takes a picture of a structure on February 31 but then takes the exact same picture on March 14. We see the crater the rover is headed towards swallows it whole which leads me to believe that the planets can also alter their surfaces. Maybe for catching prey that wanders around on the surface?

  • @crassirus
    @crassirus 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I love that P L A N E T S has a multi-video mythos now but I really wish the analog horror was... actually analog. I don't mean you need to literally deepfry it in a VCR but Natron or Da Vinci Resolve are free and really cool tools for video editing and VFX. Seeing something like this with a tight, more beleivably analog feel would take them from good to iconic, we'd have another Local 58 on our hands for sure.
