I had just learnt about lenz law in my class and i had also seen the magnet dropping through pipe experiment earlier in my life several times but never understood it and today i tried to understand it after learning lenz law it was an absolute pleasure to have that eureka moment , when your theoretical knowledge gets tested and approved in phyiscal world.
As i have learnt , when the magnet drops inside a circular loop of dia or paramagnetic material ( any material which does not get attracted to magnets ) the object suddenly gets increased magnetic fields and it wants to oppose that so it generates an induced current in a direction which would make an emf ( electro magnetic field) opposite to direction of the magnetic field of original magnet to nullify it's effect and in doing so, it repels the magnet upwards and decrease its acceleration ( a
2:38 this is the coolest physics demonstration I have ever seen
I saw a pretty good demonstration once where the teacher is explaining electron flow using ping pong balls at the bottom of a chalk board. (place where the erasers sit)
It's really cool. Check this one out as well: "Copper's Surprising Reaction to Strong Magnets | Force Field Motion Dampening" at th-cam.com/video/sENgdSF8ppA/w-d-xo.html
You can easily make a cooler one. If you take a bunch of copper plates and stack them on top of each other and drop a strong magnet on it, you will see the exact same phenomenon just a lot cheaper.

Awesome of you to shout out Veritasium, it's still really fun to see how much the learning community support each other. He's pretty great!
"I remain steadfastly commited to both channels" :(
Hey Michael! A few things... The cereal is attracted to the magnet not because of the iron, but because of the diamagnetism of water. The iron inside the cereal is not in a crystal structure allowing it to be magnetic as we normally think of magnets, so the effect is very weak. It does exist, but there's another phenomenon to explain the attraction. The diamagnetic water is repelled by the magnet, creating a slight dip in the water allowing the cereal to "fall" into. Moving the magnet drags this depression around, allowing the cereal to be moved. This is also why frogs float in very large magnetic fields, not Lenz's law. If Lenz's law was the reason frogs floated, it would require them to be extremely conductive and they would probably explode due to the heating effect of the current running through them! The diamagnetic water inside the frog is was causes frogs to float inside magnetic fields.
You can even recreate the effect with paper or plastic which shows that the iron in the cereal is not causing the movement.
Enlightening!
Dont get much, veritasium explain that b4.. Dont remember the title, but he make videos about it

@Thomas Kirkpatrick It's hardly a woooosh. It's more of a lack of knowledge.
What are u guys talking about. Vsauce is just premium now.
7:13 This is how things work in my dreams.
You have a slight mistake in your video:
At 5:00 you do the little cereal trick. It’s true, cereal contains iron, which is the main reason the cereal is moving. However, you move the magnet to show that it’s “not a property of the water”
Actually, it is a property of the water. At least, partly. Water is what’s called a “diamagnetic” fluid, as it has a magnetic permeability of less that 0. In effect, that means that water is actually repelled by magnetic fields. So, when you hold a magnet near water, the surface nearest to the water gets pushed down.
As you already have probably inferred; if you have any buoyant material, let’s say styrofoam, on water. If you hold a magnet close to the water, the styrofoam will approach the magnet. Not because it is attracted by the magnet, but in fact, because the water nearest the magnet is lower than the rest of the water, so it’s actually sliding “down hill”
So, your cornflake is probably moving toward the magnet, but it also might actually be moving away from it slightly. I’m not sure, I don’t know the force balance between corn flakes and water off the top of my head.
Cheers, maybe even make a video on it. If you do, put my name somewhere, I can brag to my friends about it.
