    I like the size of the Striker for kayak use. It gives me all the info I need without taking up much space. It doesn't need a giant battery either - also saving weight and space. Is recommend it.

    It's funny....I traded in my boat and also am going from PowerDrive v2 to a new Terrova with iPilot. Definitely a learning curve and you made it easier for me. Nicely done.

    I also run a Garmin and I had a Terrova. You can actually run that wire up the center grove on the shaft. It's a bit more work but works great. I used super glue to glue it in place then used silicone down the sides and it worked great. I ran the transducer wire tight up the center of the shaft into the head of the unit then ran the wire down thru the center of the Terrova coiled power wire to the power source. It's more work but your wires are all tucked up tight, protected and wont catch on anything. There is a video in TH-cam that shows this instillation. Good luck fishing......

    Looking to buy the Terrova and couldn’t find any info on the function of the puck. It appears some of the Terrova’s models come with the puck and some do not.
    You explained it very well and other pertinent information.

    Only as far as I know, the censor calibration is also for the GPS to spotlock more accurate. I noticed quite a difference. But correct me if I'm wrong.

    Have you allowed for enough slack in your TM cable for when the Terrova is on spot lock or your turning R, L or completely around? Your TM will turn and put tension on the cable if you don't have enough slack the cable will break.

    Nice video. So if i want to use my Terrova 55 on different boats with a quick release plate,, i will need an extra heading sensor. Will the bluetooth remember more than one heading sensor or will i have to relearn

    Great video very in depth unlike others. I’m going from a 24v 80lb thrust fortrex to the same specs terrova. I have never put in a trolling motor. My biggest question is can I use the wiring from the fortrex? (Wire from battery to connecting point) also does the hub disk need a inline fuse?

    • @OutdoorswithDonandBob
      @OutdoorswithDonandBob  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the specs of the two motors are the same, I don't know why the existing wiring wouldn't work. If you went to a bigger motor you might want heavier wiring, but it sounds like it will be the same. The only inline fuse I have is for the trolling motor itself.

    Thank you for a very informative video. I'm wondering, do you think if you hooked up the boat to your vehicle and drove around a large parking lot would you be able to pair the puck with the trolling motor?

    • @OutdoorswithDonandBob
      @OutdoorswithDonandBob  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The built in transducer will work with most fish finders. I use my Garmin with the Terrova built in transducer. But I do not get all the Garmin features. Not sure on the Hummingbird.

    • @barryd.9426

      @@OutdoorswithDonandBob - thanks for the response. Terrova has a lot of features that can be enhanced with the right depth finder. For example - it will follow a specific contour. I currently have a Garmin myself. It's connected to a transducer in the rear of my boat. I'm looking to add a second depth finder to connect to the Terrova in the front. I think I can get side imaging, travel speed, , etc., if I buy the right depth finder. Problem is they cost $1,000++. I just dropped 10 grand on upgrades for this boat. I don't really want to drop $11 grand. Thanks again for the help.

    on these motors... can the motor speed be limited when employing anchor/spot lock/autopilot, etc? so say, if the motor has a max speed of 10... you can tell it not to use anymore speed than setting 5 when in auto features?

    • @OutdoorswithDonandBob
      @OutdoorswithDonandBob  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes spot lock works at whatever number you are using, such as 5 or 6. Have not used auto pilot but since constant uses whatever speed is set, again 5 or 6, I'd guess auto pilot works the same way.

    • @OutdoorswithDonandBob

      This is the 55 pound thrust and 12 volt. I looked at the tracker boats they sold the size of mine and saw they usually put the 45 pound thrust on them, so I decided to go with 55.

    Did you add the quick disconnect yourself? I've got the same boat you have and getting ready to install a terrova. How do I access the bow? Not sure how to remove that kick plate

    • @OutdoorswithDonandBob
      @OutdoorswithDonandBob  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The dealer had replaced the trolling motor when I bought the boat, so they had to access the front to do that, and when I got it there were screws holding the front plate in place. Once that plate is off there are only a couple small round holes to work through so it's still not real easy. I did attach the quick disconnect myself when I bought the Terrova. My son in law helped me because it's a two man job. I had a long breaker bar for a socket set. We put the nut in the socket and he laid in the boat and ran the bar up through the hole while I tried to start the bolt on the nut from the top.

  • @mikeharper7956

    I notice that you have an adjustable sleeve on the shaft. I presume that it is for shallow water trolling. Is the sleeve part of the Terrova package or did you add it? I haven't noticed another one of those on any other video I've watched.

    • @OutdoorswithDonandBob
      @OutdoorswithDonandBob  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Terrova is just as I bought it with nothing extra installed. It does come with a depth collar that you can adjust for motor depth similar to the Power Drive motors.

  • @darrylshisler2636

    I still have my Terrova in the box (boat build has taken much longer than anticipated) but I was curious, does the “puck” have to be above all decking or can it be mounted under a wood deck? Decking is 3/4 marine plywood sealed with fiberglass resin

    • @OutdoorswithDonandBob
      @OutdoorswithDonandBob  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the puck metal is the big problem because it interferes with the GPS. I'm not sure if being under a wood decking will give it problems or not.

  • @grider46
    @grider46 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I understand that you have to calibrate the puk once,but how about the pairing ? You have to pair it every time after you power the motor ?

    • @OutdoorswithDonandBob
      @OutdoorswithDonandBob  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No you don't have to pair it up every time to power up the motor. But I'm not sure if you disconnect the batteries so there is no power to the puck, at that time you may have to pair it up again. In my case the puck has had power to it since it's been installed.

    i have a 50 lb powerdrive right now is it worth the 1500 to go to a terrova with i pilot or upgrade the powerdrive to ipilot

    • @OutdoorswithDonandBob
      @OutdoorswithDonandBob  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on how in love you are with a foot control. I wouldn't be without my foot control, but if you upgrade your Power Drive all you have is the remote control. It's $1000 more to go with a Terrova then pay for the upgrade of your Power Drive. Of course you can offset a bit of that by selling the Power Drive. Not sure if you've seen the video I did on adding an I Pilot yes or no. I'll add a link to that video just in case.

      Installing the Terrova really isn't any different then any other trolling motor. The pair up and calibration are a bit of a hassle, but you could never calibrate and still get 99% of the motor's use.
