We are working with our partners to bring the MGU to the US, but since the US has different regulations due to wattages and power output than the EU, it’s not as easy as it sounds.
I’m my mind, the MGU is so awesome, every other e-bike is obsolete. When I’m ready to replace my current MTB, whatever e-bike I get it will have a MGU. Cheers
Giant is very conservative when bringing the latest things to their products imo. At least on the gravel and roadbike side they are slow to adopt UDH, and despite other big brands going back to BSA or adopting T47 they are on pressfit. They do make quality products though. You are more likely to see MGU on smaller brands and even Trek and Specialized might adopt it before Giant will.
Have a 2023 Specialized Vado IGH that has an Enviolo Automatiq gearbox with a Gates carbon belt drive that adjusts gearing automatically according to cadence that is similar to the Pinion MGU functionality. I look forward to seeing this system in the UNited States when it comes and compare it to the Enviolo system!
I have the Simplon rapcon with the MGU, and really like the bike, while it worked ! It’s been in for repair for the last 3 weeks, some electrical problem that my bike shop can’t sort with the help of FIT. Nobody has a clue what is wrong. Pinion are now having to step in, crossed fingers that it is back up and running shortly. Also looking forward to getting it back with the auto shift and overrun. As has been said, if you don’t like any of the auto shift or preselect, you can just go straight back to manual select, with the advantage of being able to select any gear at standstill. Some things that do need addressing is that we as consumers shouldn’t have to be going to the LBS to perform out own maintenance and basic fault finding and repairs.Oil change reminder should be resettable via the app after performing a 10 minute service, along with other things, this is definitely something that needs addressing! My LBS for the pinion is over 300km away !
Pinion have now been looking at the cloud base error log for the gearbox, there is an electronics issue with the MGU. Within a day of receiving this information, they have sent a new MGU to be fitted. Now looking forward to having my bike back with the new gearbox and updated software. Love E-bikes have been fantastic, Pinoin were very good too. Fit maybe not quite as good. Just looking forward to get back out on the bike and testing the new auto shift updates.
It’s fixed now I'll give a plus one here for the simplon from Love e-bikes. I did have a little problem with the MGU, but Scott and Nick were great at looking after me straight away. Fantastic service from you guys. Ive had the software update on the bike with the autoshift and overrun feature, and I do like it. the auto shift isn't perfect when going into technical stuff, but the bike doesn't have eyes to read the trail and to know that you are going to stamp on the pedals. But you can easily go back into manual control by holding the shift button down for a couple of seconds. Overrun is great on this bike, and I think they have got it right first time. going through rock gardens where you have to reset your pedals to avoid strikes is easy and the bike keeps flowing. I'm not going back to an old style drivetrain. You guys need to bite the bullet and get on board with the MGU and stop waiting for the next best bike to come, you will be waiting until its too late for you to enjoy !
@@nobrks You can set the overrun on or off in the App, but not change the sensitivity right now. But we think that we found a sweet spot where most people will be happy with the new overrun function.
More problems with the pinion system today. the temperature has dropped below freezing for a few days here in the uk, but nothing too cold. I went out for a ride due to it rising just above freezing, and i had no assistance at all from the motor, no faults being displayed, no change if i changed assist modes or turned the systom off and back on. The walk assist would opperate tho. So my thinking was that the battery maybe too cold and may need warming up ! One thing that has been noted to do with Lithium batteries is that if you put them under load, they heat up. with this in mind, I set the walk assist at full warp speed, sat on the bike and let it push me on for a couple of minuites. After doing this I did get full power out of the system. This is the UK and doesnt get nothing like as cold as it does for you guys in europe, and the bike stopped work with just a small drop in temperature. Now have any of you guys had any problems with your batteries. This is just one more problem with the system i have had so far !
Thank you for sharing your experience! Cold temperatures can sometimes impact lithium batteries, and the fact that warming it up helped suggests it could be temperature-related. Normally, if the battery is too cold, a fault message should appear. We’d like to take a closer look at the issue and check the system’s error log. For this, we kindly ask you to visit your dealer with the bike so they can read out the system’s data. The dealer can inform us once this is done, and we’ll access the data remotely to assist further. Please also email us at service@pinion.eu with your details and the name of your dealer. We’re here to help!
Thanks for your quick response. I have already sent a message to pinion via the service email , and I am waiting for a reply. Unfortunately I cannot just pop down to my dealer as there is only one in the country, and they are over 200miles away from where I live, so it means at least one day booked off work to travel there at great expense again, and I also would have to book a date to get a time slot with them. And as it is at the moment. I’m Not able to organise time off and the extra costs involved with fuel and possibly an overnight stay ! I also know that the dealer are extremely annoyed at the amount of warranty issues they have had with this system since they started selling the MGU bikes !
@@Johngott1971 Thanks for sharing all these details. We’re sorry we only just now noticed your previous comments from two months ago. Unfortunately, we can’t provide full support here on TH-cam due to limited information and data protection. We’ve forwarded your concerns internally and will also talk directly with the dealer to explore possible solutions. We’ll get back to you as soon as we have an update. Thank you for your patience!
I'm happy with my Pinion MGU. Also with the latest update. But i have a small suggestion/question. In A and A+ and don't see anymore on the dashbord in which gear i'm riding. Can you make that possible or is it something that I didn't found yet?
Got 2 Levos and I can see me getting the Haibike option next year. Unless others come out with the Pinion MGU in 2025. As long as I can get 0% finance.
When and where will a bike with the Pinion MGU be available in the states? Where can I test ride one (I live near Omaha, Nebraska)?
Probably Boulder.

I hope a big brand like Giant would jump on it and bring some Models with the MGU that are more affordable.

@@PinionChannel wow. i'm excited about this. I want to get the pinion MGU but the nicolai bike is out of my price range $$$$
Haibike have one coming.
Which model is the city bike in the video?
Absolutely brilliant technology. I have a Smart.Shift C.12i, am I able to add the sensor(s) required to enable Start.Select?
It depends on the bike you have. First, you should contact the bike brand or your local dealer for assistence.

Great concept! You need to get it on “good” bikes!!! (At the moment the bikes using Pinion are a bit “meeeh”)
What kind of bike are you looking for? Did you already saw the Nicolai Saturn 16?
Will the overrun be adjustable in lenght/time and sensitivity within the app?

How much over run has the MGU ? Is it adjustable?

How does the system works when the battery is dead? Can I use it like a normal bike?
Does it keep a reserve in the battery for gear switching alone?
Yes it keeps a reserve for shifting the gears.
Are there any bikes sold in the USA that have this system?
Not yet, but we are working on it
Hopefully my Levo holds out until this becomes more main stream

Regenerative braking when???
Not with the Pinion MGU and also not with any emtb.
Only hub motors can provide regen braking. But you lose all the benefits of this system instead.
This would be the future of any e-bike system with a mid motor.
The comments on this look so fake lol
