That’s why that line by Avon where he said something along the lines of “Your not hard enough for this here & maybe just maybe not smart enough for the business world” is so on point. & I think it opened stringers eyes & secretly scared him.

Avon didn't give a damn about the money Stringer lost, he was about reputation and leadership. I cracked up on that scene when Stringer wanted Slim to kill Clay
It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since this show came out and we’re still talking about it and it’s impact on television and popular culture today.

You were ahead of the wave but stringer plan was totally rational and efficient (reducing murders, creating alliances, making more money) you can't deny it...but the game is the game...he tried tho!
@@fideletamo4292 I think stringer messed up because his goal was always to make enough money and get out of the game. So all his plans lead to him eventually becoming legit and leaving the game. While Avon was going to die in the game and he knew it. That eventually Avon would get caught but that’s the game. I think it could have totally worked running the drug game like a business. to A Man’s World Podcast: Remember I'm the one that told you about the similarity between Prop Joe and Clay Davis. The way Clay Davis “apologized for the short con. Then set the mayor up for the long con.” Prop Joe “apologized to Omar for the short con. Then set him up for the long con” at the bar.
Yes! Man, I got addicted to your philosophy and explication of the Wire and how it applies to everyday life. Thinking about it, everybody knows a Stringer Bell. Regardless of background. String lacked integrity. Thank you sir!
You're so right. When The Wire first premiered, everyone (including me) saw Stringer Bell as this intelligent mastermind who was the true backbone of the Barksdale empire. But today, after repeated watches, the growing consensus is that he was merely a narcissistic failure who was way in over his head yet thought he knew better than everyone around him.
@E Double i second that! im an artist and watching this particular video made me daydream of drawing a huge piece of all the wire characters, the word is inspiration
Anybody of Joe's caliber is capable when dealing with someone of a vastly inferior street iq like stringer any time he tried it with real street niggas it bit em in his ass ( Avon , Marlo , Omar ) and eventually got him killed
Stringer Bell's "40⁰ Day" analogy is legit one of the best analogies of ALL TIME! It's absolutely PERFECT in describing mediocrity! After the 50⁰ and 60⁰ lines, using the opposite side of the scenario with the line about people "getting their bitch on at 30" just makes it... Mmm... (Chef's kiss) Basically, his point is: mediocrity is the absolute WORST CASE SCENARIO! Think about it... If Stringer's crew kills ALL of Omar's crew? That's great, an "80⁰ day" the streets are talking about how badass Stringer's crew is... If they DON'T kill any of Omar's crew? It seems bad, a "30⁰ day," but the streets are talking how Omar beat the Barksdale (notice, its Barksdale's crew when things are bad for Stinger) crew with some successful caper but they can expect Barksdale to be on the hunt for retaliation... But, with what happened, the "40⁰ day?" Nothing's really changed, no big story for the streets to fear what Stringer's crew DID or is GOING to do. People remember the good and they remember the bad... No one remembers the regular
I think a lot of people assumed Stringer was smart because one of the first things he did in the show was give D a pretty smart way of finding out who in the crew was skimming of the top, so we just went with that as part of establishing his identity
String's stupidity was exposed the moment he gave Bay and Little man the greenlight to rob Orlando despite the fact that he knew Orlando was talking to the police. "How the f**k is Orlando gon' front this type of cash!?"
The idea was clever but even then it backfired. There was no snitch in D'Angelo's shop and it just provoked a couple of his people into stealing, reducing the overall efficiency of his operation. I think Stringer's best moment was the season 2 premiere, where he methodically worked out that his people weren't responsible for the missing dope from the resupply.
I was once a pick up artist (not necessarily proud of it lol) but what he described as dark game is right. We called it compliance testing. Start off with small innocuous things, build a compliance and "reward" system, and then slowly but surely escalate.
I re-watch the wire every so often....about 3-4yrs....I've been feeling overdue and finding your *stellar* 👌🏼 content has given me the last nudge I needed
Good points but somehow I always come back to Marla Daniels quote. “You cannot lose if you don’t play the game”. At the end of the day everyone in the show who played “the game” whether it be politically or criminally, they all lost. Clay Davis facing indictment, Avon going back to jail, Marlo having to retire, Omar getting killed. “You cannot lose if you don’t play the game”.
I agree 1000% Playaboy5! The creators wanted the story of the Wire to show this... its strictly about the consequences of the game and how you played it .... matters not! At some point you'll have some success and at others youll have to take some L's. The core issue here is no one is exempt from having frailties. Including Stringer.
In the background you have some quotes for Lord Baelish. I would love to see how you break down the way some of the characters from the Wire and Game of throne correlate ie Prop Joe and Little finger and they both died at the hands of their protégé. That would be an interesting topic of discussion.
Aye Shamrock was an underdeveloped character! He was String protégé! Reading all the books and applying himself I wish he had more screen time as character
They're definitely not friends. String thinks they're business partners, but Prop Joe used Stringer like his queen on the chessboard to take out the other King, Avon. But Avon started using Marlo, in the prison meeting scene, as his queen to go at Prop Joe. By the end of season 5 Avon had the product & the real estate, through Slim Charles.
I’ve finished all of your videos since I finished the show for the first time 2 weeks ago, and I must say, your work is absolutely amazing. Your ability to recap and decipher these stories while providing so much context and allowing the viewers to also come to their own conclusions is unparalleled. That being said, you have to make a video on Lester Freamon soon! One of, if not the most important, characters to the overarching story line in my opinion (and one of my 3 personal favorite). From the beginning when he wouldn’t say a word, to the point where he is the only one left still going after the dealers, it would be great to see your view on his character and the role he played in the show. Again, love the videos so much, and can’t wait for more in the series. Keep it up!!
A true wise person knows the good and bad potential of everyone they allow in they Life. That even goes for spouse and kids. In the end I don't know why didn't the co-op unite to take Marlos crew down. Like even though Chris and snoop was Theroux, they couldn't possibly deal with the numbers of the rest of the city. That part of the story just messed with me for real. Another great analysis big bro for real 💯.
They didn't because they were all shook of violence. Prop Joe had propositions. Stringer was about 'economic theory', and united with Prop to avoid a fight over product or territory against Barksdale's orders. They didn't have the heart for the streets but the heart for money. Even when Avon went down and his many of his crew went joined forces with the East Side, they still didn't want it with Marlo despite their unified numbers.
Ever since I started listening to your analysis of the wire and the game you've yet to contradict yourself not even once. Much love and respect my brother
As usual, this video is brilliant, especially the part showing Stringer's shift from emphasizing territory in the first season to product by the third. Also brilliant is the emphasis on the need for principle. As the Bunk confirmed with Omar, "A man needs a code" otherwise, we will be tossed like reeds in the wind. I do think it is important, however, to point out that Stringer's betrayal of Avon did not begin when Proposition Joe approached Stringer at the funeral. It began with the events that led to the funeral in the first place: Stringer secretly had Avon's nephew murdered.
Great breakdown. I was still rooting for Stringer to succeed and transition to a legitimate businessman. From what there was a Baltimore Drug Dealer who went to night school and actually succeeded in going legit.
Sending my love and respect to you, Man. I'm really enjoying your shows. The Wire is one of the greatest works of art ever produced by a human, and like you said in this broadcast about how you start to view Stringer, the more you watch it the more you seem to be thinking about human beings. Bro another sick analysis, but i wanna flash back for a min- whens the part2 video on chris partlow coming out? Your analysis is crazy deep and goes way beyond the typical social media theories /discussions about the characters. Especially the bit you did on chris and snoop and marlos whole dynamics. I feel like the vacants actually represent marlos crew, how theyre empty inside just like the houses, and the way chris takes them into the house while saying calming words to convince his victims 'i got you covered boss' has an entire complex behind it related to his abuse.
Season 2 Avon saw through him in the jail scenes. Heck... even POOT called on String 'logic'. So much so that funeral home microphone is still bent to this day. 20 Years later with mature eyes, String always needed a #1. Never could he fly solo like Prop.

I think one of the important things about Stringer that goes amiss is that he was good as a second in command, when Avon could keep him in check. But once he had to be number 1, all his flaws got exposed. Think about how he okayed Savino and Wee bey taking the front money from Orlando , and how Avon felt about it. Imagine Avon wasn’t the head of the snake at the time.

Thank god for this channel. I try to have deep conversations about The Wire with people but no one seems to get it. Please do a video on McNulty, my opinion of him has changed the more I rewatched the series, just like Stringer.
Baltimore mayor Kurt Schmoke was a proponent of Hamsterdam back in the day. Of course he was viewed as a nut but in actuality he was ahead of his time. Love the videos bro! I can’t tell if you’re from Baltimore or Philly but I dig the amount of time and game into these videos. Hats off to you!

I don't know your name so I'll call you "The Professor". I watched every season 5 times. You have articulated shit I saw and didn't see. Rewatching the Wire tonight. Darex B1
Always look forward to these makes me watch certain episodes again to do the knowledge to it differently
Where you been hiding? Thank you for another great breakdown, have a blessed weekend.
Wow!
Season 2 Avon saw through him in the jail scenes. Heck... even POOT called on String 'logic'. So much so that funeral home microphone is still bent to this day. 20 Years later with mature eyes, String always needed a #1. Never could he fly solo like Prop.
Terrific episode. This is the best content breakdown show out there -TH-cam or whereever!
This my favorite show. Wouldn’t mind seeing you do power
Man I forgot how good season 1 is can’t wait to get off work and start the rewatch
Great Content brother this is like a college course on street logic, human behavior, and life lessons all in one.
Thanks bro, I truly appreciate it 💯
Yo I just subscribed to you after recently finding your videos. You seem like a good dude with your life together (we thank God), but you can't be taking months to out out a video- there's only so many replays I can manage! lol!
On the real, no pressure; your content is amazing as is your intellect and critical mind. Keep doing your thing.
I've watched this entire series 5 times before I found your channel and since then I've watched it twice more from a completely different perspective than before thanks to you. Thanks for the added insight and keep doing your thing brother. Peace.
Best breakdowns on TH-cam! Always a pleasure to tune in when you drop💯
Need more videos on the wire man 😭😭 I done watched all of them. Definitely very amazing content! Keep it up, respect💯
We all know a Stringer... Takes a couple CC courses... Thinks they understand it all
Bro I've seen multiple of your vids... You break down the show and characters in ways even I haven't... I've I watched the show at least 10. Bout to start it again after the new year. Your words chosen are precise... Great job.
Yo that's why fux with your channel fam your breakdowns be SUPER CRAZY this made people who never seen the wire watch it and now they love it...keep doing what you do fam
You do great break downs of The Wire. I would like to see you do other Top Tv Shows or even movies.
I have been doing research on this show for an Economics Project. This guy's commentary is always on point! Good job stating Economic Theory I can't wait for the Hamsterdam recap!
Man I finally found someone dat mastered the game even more than I had even digging deeper I from NEW ORLEANS & u ARTICULATED EVERYTHING PERFECTLY
I always thought what you thought in the business sense,,,you transitioned the two worlds perfectly!
Never paid attention to how Prop Joe was playing Stringer until you broke it down.
Great video again. Honestly I learn something new every time. Excellent.
Brother, I love the way you break the show down. I am going to set some time up to go back and watch every episode from beginning to end.
OMAR- can you fix this JOE. P.J- what's wrong with it. OMAR- RAN OUT OF TIME
The 40 degree day analogy. Classic
My Philly brotha, I appreciate your wire videos. The most honorable videos about the wire on TH-cam. Keep doin your thing bro and keep those wire videos coming. #chessnotcheckers #ifyouknowyouknow
Thank god for this channel. I try to have deep conversations about The Wire with people but no one seems to get it. Please do a video on McNulty, my opinion of him has changed the more I rewatched the series, just like Stringer.
Excellent vid, looking forward to Hamsterdam, I refer to that concept in conversation all the time!
Stringer's game was all about delusions of grandeur. That was his weaknesses.
You are extremely intelligent and I appreciate your Wire videos!
MY GUY THANKS FOR THE LOB BRO…. Real shit Good lookin- You wear the crown with this Wire shit!
U got me watching the wire and ur videos at the same time! Happy af I found ur channel 💯💯💯
I love these breakdowns of what is my favourite TV series! You've added to a great show brother 🙏🔥
Bro I love your take on the Wire, now every time I rewatch it I see it different
Just subbed to you the other day & I swear you make me want to watch all the seasons over especially the 1st two but I really liked the fourth season when snoop Chris Marlo and Michael came😌
I can't lie these breakdowns are so insightful...I didn't even watch GOT but even those breakdowns are great. Have you ever considered a Narcos break down?
