      I was shocked to hear HOW he passed away man. Who ever sold him that laced cocaine needs to be in prison if they did it on purpose. Thinking he’s rich so I’ll get him hooked on fentanyl and make him spend all his money with me. I think he used to use heroin back in the day though. If you watch The Wire you could see how he looks healthy and put on weight in some scenes. In other scenes you can see he lost weight and doesn’t have that glow on his skin. I struggle with addiction myself so I can tell if someone is using a mile away. In a interview he said he spent every dollar he made from The Wire on his drug habit. I just wonder if he knew there was fentanyl in his cocaine or if he was into speedballing aka Belucci. Heroin and cocaine mixed, when you sniff it withdrawals are not that bad when you stop. Idk how it works but I’ve been told it does.

    I'm sure someone has pointed this out but Omar saying " ya boy gave you up" in the stringer death scene beckons back to how Brandon was brutally tortured but refused to give omar up. As if to say his homosexual and not outwardly tough looking boyfriend refused to give up Omar after torture but your tough drug dealing kingpin best friend that you've known since your infancy in the game gave you up easily. The contrast is quite interesting as it shows that they both have codes but Omar's transcends pragmatism.

    Great video, but kinda disappointed you skipped over the scene where Bunk chews Omar out after Tasha's death. I think it's really important in understanding the downside of Omar's philosophy. Because he morally places himself above the likes of Barksdale and Marlo, he has a huge blind spot when it comes to his own role in the cycle of violence and it's effect on the community. It's why he's so shocked when Bunk tells him about kids "playing Omar". Ironically, it's because of his strong morals and self-righteousness that he can be ignorant of the unethical aspects of what he does.

    Omar is one of the deepest, best written characters in TV history. I love what this video says about Michael and we not being able to realize he is a potential Omar until we see him become it. It's what I felt exactly when watching his ending. This show has so many layers, shows us a genealogy of the streets and all it's pieces. In the end, the feeling is that we know so many things, and Omar and Michael are this anomaly, that grows from little things, little possibilities to escape the pattern, that are so subtle that only a sensitive character like Omar would understand as a path to follow. Beautiful writing on this amazing show and beautiful analysis by ScreenPrism, once again.

    • @darkhobo
      @darkhobo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yes we don't see it coming and yet once it happens its so obvious it couldn't have happened any other way. We know from his very first scene that Michael has a strong moral code. He bends his code to protect his brother, but he still has it. And we see he retains that code even as he learns the game. Even after he masters it.
      A shotgun is not the best weapon to commit a robbery with. Its hard to maneuver, and slow to fire. But its Omar's signature weapon. Michael is making a statement by using it. He is carrying on on Omars legacy.
      "The game" is an ecosystem, and ecosystems have niches, and niches get filled one way or another.

    There is actually more going on under the surface with Omar and Kenard, it's VERY subtly done, I only picked up on it on my 5th or 6th viewing of the series.
    Kenard kills Omar because he used to idolised him, only ever hearing the legends and stories. You can see this in the scene where Bunk is investigating the stash house shootout, he sees a bunch of kids playing at being Omar, if you watch again, the one saying "my turn to be Omar yo" is actually kenard.
    Later, after jumping out of the apartment window, Omar ambushes Michael and the gang on the corner, hobbling along on his makeshift broom crutch.
    It is clear from Kenard's reaction that this is the first time he has actually seen Omar, and he expresses his disappointment at seeing this mythical figure he idolised in that physically vulnerable state. This is why he kills Omar.
    Also Cheese is Randy's father, bonus fact for you there (confirmed by David Simon, they wrote a scene with the two in before Randy is sent to group home, but they never filmed it due to time retraints.
