  • Album : Rest In P(1994)
    Rest in P is a 1994 posthumous album release by Parliament-Funkadelic guitarist Eddie Hazel. The album was released by P-Vine records in Japan and is composed of previously unreleased tracks recorded by Eddie Hazel in 1975-77. The album features musical support from various members of the P-Funk stable.
    Alternate recordings of four tracks from Rest in P with different titles were also featured on the Jams From The Heart EP and were included as bonus tracks on Rhino Records' 2004 limited-edition reissue of Game, Dames and Guitar Thangs.
    Despite being heavily sought after by collectors, Rest In P has never been released outside of Japan.

    this music is what influenced Jeff Beck & Tommy Bolin to promote 'n' produce funk fusion recordings that became very popular- they were simply better self-promoters than Eddie Hazel- who was too busy creating this beauty to care much about self-promotion... he was already in a success-full band.
    Eddie stands next to Jimi as one of the true pioneers of "Electric Church" which changed our lives forever for better !!!

      ABSOLUTELY! For some time now, I've been listening to Jimi and Eddie...just listening to the "playing of the guitar", not all of the antics, etc. and I've got to tell you, Eddie could play ANYTHING ! His solos on early Funkadelic, his rhythm when GC featured Mike Hampton, not to mention his work with Ruth Copeland, The Temps and Johnnie Taylor and his solo album "Rest In P", if you put on your headphones, close your eyes and "LISTEN", I don't see how anyone can say definitively that Jimi was better! I just don't see it ! "Juicy Fingers" is 11:41and not once do you hear the same riff...It's like going on a road trip and seeing somehing different no matter how long you ride ! I cannot say that Jimi was undoubtedly a "better" guitar player, I just can't !

      eddie was one of those guitar players you discover after they pass man did the world miss out he.was slept on eddie had a complicated life with George and funkadelic number one drugs, then getting into the habit of leaving and recording when he felt reDy then jail didn't help his case then.whem p funk blew up he wasn't even with the group then he had to play second fiddle to mike. Gary, and byrd

    • @btlayt
      @btlayt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I've read several of your observations here regarding Eddie and Funkadelic and I have to say most of them are spot on...I've been a Funkadelic fan since '74 and have probably seen them live 7 or 8 times at their absolute best, but just like anything else you sometimes have to "go back" to get some of the things you missed initially. Once or twice a week, I'll listen to Jimi and Eddie and from the perspective of "craftsmanship", Eddie is clearly Jimi's equal. I often wondered why GC didn't continue to feature him during and after his "issues". Kidd, Gary and Blackbyrd were good, but they simply were not as gifted as Eddie. I also believe that GC felt some "type of way" towards Eddie...who knows? All I know is that the early Funkadelic "featuring" Eddie's guitar is better than anything they've ever done.

      I agree and love the way you think. I agree that he is right there with Hendrix. You could even argue that Eddie did those first 3 Funkadelic albums, Osmium, Ruth Copeland albums, etc. by 21! He also covered more ground than Hendrix in my opinion. Hendrix is otherworldly, but Eddie is brilliant AND soulful as hell. His tone is just a thing of beauty.

      You might appreciate this. I am an adjunct college instructor. I have a student in her early 20s who is not only very smart, but is a fine student who thinks critically. Each class involves a writing assignment. She commented on how much she liked the music of Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Hazel. Not to worry. People appreciate and love listening to Eddie Hazel. The guy is so creative and free, always steeped in futuristic funk. He is one of the 12 disciples of JMH, spreading the hard funk word sound power prophecy that the Son of Music bestowed on the world. His playing is so enjoyable to listen to in part because he so obviously loves what he's doing.

      I get the impression that in the early days, funkadelic was mostly a george and eddie colab, with eddie being responsible for most of the music. So when eddie left he probably was thinking that the group couldnt go on without him and that hed be able to leverage a better deal in time. But what ended up happening is george almost immediately found some other great musicians to replace eddie and those who'd left. George never ended up calling for him and then when eddie himself finally decided that he wanted back, the group was already transitioning and the replacements where there to stay. Why eddie never joined another group or his solo career never happened is another question.

      Respectfully, brother... I think that Eddie Hazel was actual more proficient at what he did than than Buddy Miles. It's very hard to render a judgment given that they played different instruments, but I don't think that Buddy Miles was nearly as impressive as Eddie Hazel was. I do appreciate Buddy Miles' work, but I think Mitch Mitchell was a lot more impressive.
