It was a great idea of George Clinton to fade out the other instruments almost completely and let Eddie Hazel's guitar stand alone. That's the difference between a very good song and a
    breathtaking and overwhelming song.

That's the thing about great music. It ALWAYS stands the test of time. ALWAYS. Same reason I can enjoy The Allman Brothers Band today just as much as my Dad did in 1969/70/71...and still does today. Albums like 'At Fillmore East' have withstood that test of time, as well. That why it's still considered one of, if not THE best live album ever recorded.

"Maggot Brain" is a song by the band Funkadelic. It appears as the lead track on their 1971 album of the same name.
The original recording of the song, over ten minutes long, features little more than a spoken introduction and a much-praised extended guitar solo by Eddie Hazel. Music critic Greg Tate described the song as Funkadelic's A Love Supreme; the song is #60 on the Rolling Stone list of 100 Greatest Guitar Songs. Reportedly, "Maggot Brain" was Hazel's nickname. Other sources say the title is a reference to band leader George Clinton finding his brother's "decomposed dead body, skull cracked, in a Chicago apartment. Michael Hampton (Hazel's replacement as lead guitarist) recorded his own interpretation of the song in 1978, which was included in a bonus vinyl EP that was distributed with the album One Nation Under a Groove; the cut is also included in most CD editions of that album.

The title comes from from George Clinton finding his brother dead in his apartment, with maggots crawling throughout his head. The song is a scream. Eddie Hazel got the nickname Maggot Brain because he owned it, he defined and created the experience. This song reminds me of Pet Sounds, first time you hear it this ain't shit and you forget it. It's the sort of music that comes to life when you do too.

That's Bernie Worrell?!? I've only just learned about Bernie through my favorite living guitar player, Buckethead. Bucket consistently names Bernie as one of his greatest inspirations. He even played with Bernie in a couple of different bands. Praxis, with Bootsy Collins? And Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains. It was Bucket, Les Claypool, Bernie, and Brian "Brain" Mancia on drums.
Bucket is very close to Bootsy and he and Bernie were real close too.
Most people don't realize it but Buckethead carries the P-Funk torch today. I didn't realize that the folks he's so close with were/are all part of P-Funk. That explains a lot. Like I didn't know Bootsy was in the band. Bernie, either. Wow.

YO, WHAT?!?!?! Man, seriously, it's cool if you're not a fan of Hendrix, but how is his music "junkie music"? You mean junk as in smack or junk as in garbage? Either way, you're crazy for saying this. I love Eddie Hazel too. I don't prefer either over the other, just depends on my mood, but fact is without Jimi there would probably never have been a Maggot Brain. You might want to go check out Machine Gun by Band Of Gypsys if you're not familiar. If you can listen to that and still have the opinion that Hendrix is junkie, than you must be on junk!

"Junkie music"? You are a moron. Especially since you don't realize that Hazel had a drug addiction too. Not to mention Hazel's playing was influenced by Jimi.

Sometimes it better to say nothing . This was one of those times for you. There are so many holes in your opinion. Sad
