I love that you specifically said you were going to take a pic of the wood once you were happy with it to refer to after removing & weighing it down and then totally forgot? 😂 And you're so right w/ not worrying about planting the hair grass too deep. My carpet will send root shots at least 4" into the the bottom of substrate and then you'll see this little green shoot pushing all the way up to the surface. It's such a wild little plant!
Looks awesome 🎉 You asked about video style for the future; I prefer the slower style, as much detail and explanation as possible, but then I'm just starting out and want to learn. In the beginning everything is so nerve-wracking, you make it look so easy. Thanks for great content 👊👊👊 I enjoy your super down-to-earth and comical personality. 😉 Cheers from South Africa 🇿🇦
Love this scape and it’s just going to get better and better with a bit of time. I know it’s a small aquarium but sometimes it looked far bigger due to the actually scape giving it great depth. Another super job. 😊
Encouraging to those who want to scape like professionals....great place to start....creating something interesting with alot of cover for fish (thats just as important).
I’ve been using the paper towel and glue method. It works fairly well though this last project I had to redo hardscape and glueing 3 times for it not to float and break up.
Have you tried taking one of the O rings and placing it on the stem under the mounting bracket for the light? Might give better stability if you sandwich the bracket and post with them 🤔
the "economical" tank, using a ton of very expensive UNS ControSoil... But seriously, it is a good, informative video, and people can always sub in whatever substrate is in their budget. I personally do really like ControSoil, I've had great luck with it as it doesn't seem to affect my pH where Fluval and ADA do. I'm already grooving a super low pH so the soil not mucking around with it more is appreciated, but it is pricey stuff.✌️ Edit; at the end of the vid you said the tank doesn't look super super good, but you're selling yourself short! It seems like you were going for something readily attainable for a beginner in planted tanks and the tank did accomplish that in a super super good way! So it is a super super good tank. 👏👏
yaaaa I had a few people mention that.... problem is im worried about using that much power on the circuit space I have left.... :/ I had a buddy show me a propane powered one... idk
During the beginning of the video I just kept saying to myself take the sticker off the light take the sticker off the light take the sticker off the light and finally when you got sick of it too and peel it off it was the biggest sense of relief and satisfaction lol.😂
A tank like that is perfect for a nano species, something like a few pygmy rasboras or green neons. With a few floating plants it would be perfect for a Betta as well. Edit: Either way, it's a great tank.
I’m doing that-first for a snapping turtle, or “dirtle”, so plants will be hornwort, which she doesn’t eat, and maybe a bit of water hyacinth. Light is a Nicrew for about $75. I could only find the tank for $275 after tax! Another couple hundred for a decent stand! A Fluval FX6 for about another three hundred….. Pool filter sand for maybe $60 as I had to get it online, some wood for about $40 - but hey, free rocks from the back yard. It’s a budget build if you can get equipment for free. Or maybe on Craigslist if you trust that. If you have to buy new, you need a pretty big budget. Not that fish would need an FX6 but still…….😅
Anything can be "on a budget". The question is whether or not you can do it cheaply. You can "budget" $700 for a planted 75gal, but that isn't exactly cheap. Most planted tanks less than 10gal will cost between $150-$200. Still not cheap, but that's about what you'd spend for a week's worth of grocery for a guy who lives alone.
this is literally the antithesis of the green aqua guy dropping close to a grand on his "begginer friendly" aquascape ~7.5 gallon shallow tank and then breaking character for 30 seconds to say he hates when people ask about prices

Cutting prefilter to make a baffle on the HOB is a great hack. TY!

THANK YOU! cheers!

I like this style - a "scape along with me" sort of vibe. I worked on my tanks you worked yours. Kinda like having a fish tank buddy!
Perfect level of detail -including the stumbling blocks. Makes the rest of us feel a bit better.😂
Really nice job, love the aquascape!!! The video was well done and learned a lot especially the hack to glue driftwood to rocks using paper towels.
Looking forward to an update on this tank! Really nice.
Came out phenomenal!
Perfect timing. Setting up a tank for my daughter.
Awesome! This vid as prolly wayyyy to much detail, but thats a good thing for ya hopfully!
Looks great! 🏞️

Thanks! :)

Nice Mike, enjoyed it all
Glad to hear it, thanks!!! :)

I think a putty type epoxy would work well on your rock to wood glue job.
Hey! If you run cold water over the area you glued, it cures instantly. 😊
Do this more, love to see it
Nice scape!
Nice video. Just thought I would mention you could get some activator from the hardware store, it makes the superglue cure in a few seconds
Its a fantastic tank you have done !! ❤,i love your fish tank stand ,what is it called please thank you kindly 🙏 😊
“I am, by no means , a professional aquascaper .” Uses a tiny red solo cup, looks professional to me! 🌿👍🏻
🤠
Amazing work 😊
Cheers!
If you get some superglue accelerator it will bond hard as nails in a few seconds.
I like that it isn’t over-planted. That way the fish can be the dominant feature. Some bright red fish would be nice
Totally, and this way it wont get "overcrouded" super fast, more of a slow progression 🫡
Nice job! You made that look easy, minus setting up the light lol. I’d say your math was right on
Beard looks good Mike, great video
Thankd Jarren! ;)
The water's not cloudy... That's atmospheric mist! 😉

Have you thought about putting a small 2.5/5 gallon water heater under your sink? Hopefully you have the space under the sink for it.
yaaaa I had a few people mention that.... problem is im worried about using that much power on the circuit space I have left.... :/ I had a buddy show me a propane powered one... idk
Use a heat gun on the superglue and save a ton of time!!

hahahha I wasnt the only one!!!!!! :)

Thanks! Ya Im thinking about doing some cpd's, havnt had em in a longggg time
I have that same Chihiros light and the threads wear out and the light will hang, so i just super glued the threads and fixed the problem...😂😂
Love the way these tanks look, but how the hell do you clean them without screwing up all that work.
Thanks! And yes that is a challenge... especially with all the wood so close to the glass... toothbrush and patcience 🤪
Hi, beard! 😊
Cool, 😎
Mate I'm happy with your new style of editing.. but get into saltwater reef tanks
mike cmon bruh you pushin 30
It's very pretty, a Hobbit trail.
Wood smoke, don't breath this! Cool scape!
hahah righttttt :) cheers!
where can we get those brown pellet substrate that's soil-less? thanks
I think that's UNS Controsoil
man vs light
lmao :)
Why didn't you put the tank on a table to set up then slide into the shelf?
🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
like getting back to your roots man, thats what we want to see.
Thanks steve!
Set up a 75gal on a budget
That might be tough, really depends on how much yur fillin it with... lots of hardscape is what really adds up 🥵

I used hot glue… super glue is TOXIC!!
"doesn't have 600$ worth of plants in it"
it will once its grown in, if you're growing them right
You dont need to spend a lot of money. Here's my $140 light.
