I just bought a 40 gallon and after watching your videos and others I know how to make a healthy tank for my fish. I want to use floating plants because I don’t want to use a lid and I’ve heard it’ll keep the fish from jumping out. I’m taking my time setting it up because I want it to look and be perfect (at least to me). Thanks for the vids and ideas on how to set a healthy tank.
My golden cloud mountain minnows occasionally jump and get stuck on top of my floating plants. Luckily they’ve only done it when I was near by and noticed. So far no fatalities.
I dont know why more people don't put soil into media bags? It makes it so much easier to work with, and the cleanup afterwards isn't so bad. It's something you can install in your tank in minutes...
Frogbit and duckweed are my secret weapons that work for my tanks and water. Just never stop growing and keep nitrates down to almost non existent. Also works as a good light block for keeping algae at bay as well. Win win
I've looked through your other videos w/o finding the answer to my question, so I apologize in advance if you've already addressed this. I keep wondering WHAT are the floating feeding rings which you use? I've tried several types, which varied in both construction and material used, and none of them have worked all that well. The ones in your tanks seem to float above the water surface by a bit, far more than others I've tried. Thanks!
What will get rid of black algae? It doesn't have long hairs on it. It's just short like a buzz hair cut. I've tried to stay away from chemicals so I've tried Amano shrimp. That was a big fat NO. And Ottos. Also a no. Scraped it all off and thought I got it all off of my plants and roots. Uh, no. And now I've tried peroxide. Nope. Chemicals are next. Please help me.
@@AQUAPROS thanks!, I’m binge-watching your vids today and appreciate the way you explain things. It’s not boring and still easy to follow. Your cadence is great! Im going to try a soil (fox farms ocean ) but first soaking it and rinsing a bunch and sand and play around with an extra tank. I feel what you mean about embracing the hobby and experimenting from the ground up (pun intended) as it really adds to the feeling of pride when you’re the creator of a little world full of life.
Thanks Mike. I'm interested to see what you do to the rack. I'm looking at buying my first rack and am worried about the aesthetic not working with existing one
Oh nice! ya i went back and forth on building my own like from scratch but went with the gladiator racks. Hopefully next week I can show off the "almost final" product :)
Lots to choose from nowadays, fluval stratum, uns controsoil, tropica brand and then theres ADA... i got with any of the first 3 just where I can get it the cheapest
I used Eco Complete in my 20 gallon tank. Probably should have went with dirt to be honest. Not quite doing what I was hoping it would do for the plants.
I tried it out because of the CAC rating on it thinking that it would better serve my plants to not have to worry about ammonia spikes. Maybe over time it will, but in the immediate its not that great, lol. However, the root systems in my bacaopa plants seem to love it.
Great video, but you say that you really don't use fertilizers while you have a bottle of Aquarium Co-op Easy Green in the background. Also, where can I get Legit fish food?
yaaaa I mention a little after that that I have a bunch of ferts layin around, just dont use em that much... only if a specific situation comes up. You can get legit fish food on the main website or the aquapros one! www.legitfishfood.com www.aquaproshq.com Cheers!
Lets see here i have, wandering jew, pothos, hoya, peace lily, lucky bamboo, in the tank and floating i have moses in a basket, spider plant, and money jade
I'm willing to give up my water lettuce for the love of God. Anybody can have it for free. I get that stuff out every week because it grows so fast....

thats awesome! and yes, the floating plants will discourage jumping- should have mentioned that!

I’m glad there’s no losses.
I’m just going to keep 3 goldfish and a few guppies.
you can also freeze dirt into slabs or cubes for easy insertion under existing substrate.

@@DestinRugers.S I think it has more to do with replanting being a hassle because roots get stuck in the mesh.
I absolutely love the passion you have to learn and teach people what u know and love...
Wow thanks Nate, means a lot!! 😀🤙🤙🤙
I have certain houseplants whose roots are submerged in my tanks. The fish love it as well as the plants. Love your channel.
I just found your channel today. I love your content. In a way, you take science (certainties) out of it and express your opinions and experience.
Thanks scott!

Banger 👍👍 i love floaters and had great luck with water lettuce. Only thing ive noticed is floaters dont like alot of surface movement.

No problem! They are 3d printed like most, but they are coated ao they wont sink. They will be available on legitfishfood.com eventually...
As always, your knowledge is on point!
cheers :)
@@AQUAPROSany turtle knowledge for plants. Snacks,/ filtration.
I just put a cup of yogurt into the tank. Clouds things up a bit, but it's got beneficial bacteria in it.
🤔
what on earth
Whoa
Lol😅 I was thinking like coconut hair peat moss and coffee grinds... But yogurt.... Guess there is bacteria lol 😅
Hell yea get some of that Lactobacillus acidophilus in there 😂

If you are adding soil under sand. Could you freeze the soil before adding it like an ice cube tray.?
Ive heard of that, seems like a lot of work 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
I can see why Cory likes you lol awesome videos as always !
I’m new to the hobby but i was thinking floating plants help keep the water from evaporating as fast. Is this accurate?
never thought about that.... maybe? might have the opposite effect too tho...
Definitely add them, they will be beneficial in many ways. Only one way to find out 👍🏼

"Targeted Dump." lol.
Note: floaters don’t like flow and lids on tanks.
Very true!
Excellent upload 👌
Glad ya liked it!
@@AQUAPROS brilliant 👏
Interesting to see nitrate in the Betta tank! Thanks for sharing
ya its kinda weird right???? maybe im sleep feeding again.... :)
@@AQUAPROS 😂 definitely rotting plant material would make the most sense, you'd think they'd suck it all up with that much emersed growth tho!
Im looking for hardy plants for turtle. Help with filtration and snacks. Maybe some shrimp.

I've decided to try some floaters, we'll see how this goes 😊
Noiiiceeeeee!
Great info! Thank you!
Cheers Matt 🤙🤙🤙
Never had luck with floating plants but think that is due to flow of the filter but have had good growth with lucky bamboo and sweet potato
Ya flow is the #1 think that will throw a wrench in the floating plant plan...😳

Not really... im sure theres a few in there somewhere but not so many that its noticable 🤷♂️
You can turn the excess floating plants into fish and shrimp food
What??? How?
GO WATCH FATHER FISH
Thick sand easy me mind
Gel caps plus soil and or worm castings. Targeted dump
Targeted Dumps are legit 😎🫡
