In today's video, I'm stripping down the interior to install a bunch of sound insulation products. This is part one of a two part mini series on restoring the interior. In the next video, I'll be doing an in depth cleaning, fixing all that is broken and getting it all back to factory-like freshness! Over the next few months, I'll be introducing a lot more project content to the channel, in addition to my normal reviews! The 240SX will be picking up soon (engine swap), along with a few other things I have in the works! TheMegajr I don’t have time to film anything on that car right now. All I’ve been doing is ordering parts and learning to weld the engine bay up. I won’t make any content on it till I get closer to final assembly and the first start up.

First mistake
You didn't noise test at different speeds, especially in bumpy areas.
Plus i m sure there will company recommendations for covering major noise spots for every specific model, maybe online

KayakTN yeah it’s nasty LOL. I hadn’t really cleaned it, except for vacuuming, since I bought it. That’s why I’ve been looking forward to doing this, it’s so cringy LOL. Everything is from the previous owner.
Great vid Kyle. I like how you took the time to explain each step and why you did each step. I used the same products on my 2010 Honda and it made quite a difference in lessening NVH.

Got a link to the felt tape? The strips you used for the metal on plastic contact on the door panels.
External tire carriers were a bad idea. My blazer had a crack in the back due to the tire swinging too hard. Better off the tire on the inside. Also with the tire on the back it was a slight obstruction for the rear view

Good stuff as always Kyle! Do you know how you're going to mount the speakers in the doors? If you want fiberglass and want another TH-camr to collab with, maybe try hitting up Sprayway Customs. I've been binging his and your channels, and his fiberglass speaker mount work is high quality. Might make some good content for both of you!

Years ago a friend I knew had installed two subs in the tail gate of his 85 S-10 Blazer and it sounded pretty good. I forget what size - maybe 12's? Personally I would leave the audio stock; however, just giving you an idea for space.
I wanted to have a little fun and do something different. It's gone on enough since I introduced all of the equipment back in November. It'd be a shame not to do it at this point.
I'm so bizarrely jealous of this project! I'm 34 and my 1st car was a 93 S10 Blazer, 4 door, in forest green. So it was nearly identical to your Jimmy. I would love to have it back and give it the level of attention you're giving your Jimmy. Love the vids!

Ethan Yes I LOVED it! I just didn’t like the cost of fixing it haha. I never had great luck with minis but the R53 is by far my favorite.
What city in Florida did you used to live in.
It's amazing how much of a night and day difference in overall solidity sound insulation makes to non luxury cars.
Should have done the roof to. Will stop any flex or vibrations from the bass..
The roof is a great idea for a super powerful build. I don't think mine is worth going that far. I didn't want to take a chance on damaging the headliner, it's huge.

Frank Sweet I didn’t feel it was worth it for this. There will be other projects I do that too. The headliner is so big I was afraid to mess it up.
A video like this is more entertaining, interesting and refreshing to watch then endless videos of dudes restoring some totaled Lamborghini, some blown up Ferrari or any of that other nonsense. I've enjoyed your content for years now you're one of the first people on TH-cam doing this kind of stuff and I really appreciate it as an automotive journalist myself videos like yours show you what's possible with whatever you have to work with, too me a guy putting sound deadening an old Jimmy is what it's all about.

Can't wait to use this to redo the interior in my Jimmy. I finally have the engine torn down and ready for paint. It's amazing how little damage a blown head gasket can do as it doesn't need machine work. 1 month from now and she should be back on the road and underway for this exact treatment. Appreciate the work you put into these videos Kyle. You're the best!

I have an '89 extended cab that I'll be restoring soon after the Jimmy is wrapped up. The '93 regular cab I did a video on is still with me, but I took the plate off of it. I'll probably use it for parts and running around the land.

Ricy013 I found it on Amazon while googling felt tape. Judging by the shape of the door panel it’s probably better to put it on the metal to make sure it sticks but I’ll test it out and see what works best

Wow, your content changed a lot dude.
For prepping I always use denatured alcohol rather than isopropyl. Denatured leaves much cleaner surface with no residual. I’m pretty sure Second Skin recommends denatured for metal prep.

@@saabkyle04 I get it at any (big box) home improvement store by the gallon. I transfer to glass bottle and apply with a rag, rather than store in plastic. It evaporates very quickly. Don't be overly aggressive with it; I've had it actually dull the paint on floor and inside doors but it cleans MUCH better than isopropyl. Also, recommend using nitrile gloves (I get blue ones at SamsClub or Costco, box of 200) as it is very drying to your skin (in which case probably should use a carbon-based mask, too). Hope this helps. Excellent videos - keep it up.
