    Standard Tteokbokki Recipe
    Ingredients:
    - 200 grams of Korean rice cakes (tteok)
    - 1/2 medium onion, thinly sliced
    - 3-4 green onions, chopped
    - 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
    - 2 cups of water
    - 2 tablespoons gochujang (Korean red pepper paste)
    - 1 tablespoon soy sauce
    - 1 tablespoon sugar
    - 1 teaspoon minced garlic
    - 1 teaspoon sesame oil
    - 1/2 teaspoon Korean red pepper flakes (optional)
    - Hard boiled eggs (optional)
    Instructions:
    1. Soak the Korean rice cakes in water for about 15-20 minutes prior to using. This will help soften them.
    2. Preheat a large pan or wok over medium heat. Add the vegetable oil and sauté the onion until it becomes translucent.
    3. In a separate bowl, mix together the water, gochujang, soy sauce, sugar, minced garlic, sesame oil, and Korean red pepper flakes (if desired) to create the sauce.

    Love Tteokbokki when living in Korea (over 30 years). we would always get it from the street vendors at NamDaeMun. It had thick red sauce and we love it.
