December 3, 2016 - The Bolivian border crossing has to be one of the most tedious borders for US Citizens. Thankfully we had PeruHop to provide a guideline and help us with any translation issues. It took over an hour for both of us to get stamped, but it was worth the hassle. If you're planning to visit, here is what you will need BEFORE you get to the border:
    Visa Requirements for US Citizens:
    1. Passport
    2. Immigration Card
    3. 2 Passport Photos
    4. 2 Photo Copies of Passport
    5. Photocopy Yellow Fever Vaccine
    6. Printed day to day Itinerary
    7. Exit Ticket
    8. Printed Bank Statement
    9. Printed Hotel/Hostel Reservation
    10. $160 USD - CRISP BILLS! Bring extra money because you'd be surprised at the bills they turn away
Once you get your Bolivian Visa, it is good for 10 years as long as you don't lose your passport.

Guys, thank you so much for this video. Went through this mind-numbing process last year and you are saving people so many headaches. I don't know who is in charge of these ridiculous policies, but its beyond absurd. I guess the price you have to pay to experience such a beautiful place. Thanks again!

Yeah, and when we told PeruHop (the bus taking us across the border) they were like, ohhh you're American.... with a questionable look on their faces lol. I think it's more nerve-racking when you don't speak the language! -Amanda

Which immigration did you go to? 😊

  • @xyyx2497
    @xyyx2497 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    1. Immigration Card, (piece of cake)
    2. Two passport photos (size?)
    3. Two passport photocopies (easy)
    4. Photocopy of yellow fever vaccination (is it ok if it's within a time-frame of 1 year?)
    5. Day to Day Itinerary (I was planning only making 1 reservation, hop in and then just go with the flow, lets see what the destination is taking me)
    6. Proof of Exit (you mean air-fare ticket or bus ticket to the next country, like lets say Brazil? I was planning just getting the bus ticket in Sta. Cruz heading to Brazil.)
    7. Copy of Bank Statement (what if I just show them a letter from my bank and not the statement, that I have resources, period.)
    8. Copy of Accommodations (Do hostels-hotels have to sign some sort of form that you were there, like in Russia, I supposed?)
    9. $160.00 (ok, how much was the fee with the old dude for the exchange of the $20.00 bills?)
How many frontier borders are in Peru-Bolivia? What they told me there's only two of them: Desaguadero and Kasani (Yunguyo) which this one is closer to Copacabana Bolivia. Did you get to ask the other tourists the name of the other desert border? On the other desert border, you mentioned only the $160.00 fee and passport and that's it? Can you please write me the other border city, really appreciated it.
One last question, when you exit Bolivia, what requirements did they ask you at the Bolivian border? Was it the "entry-exit card" that all these visa-free South American countries required you to sign? I'm planning in taking either bus or plane from Sta. Cruz Bolivia to Rio de Janeiro Brazil, which is another hassle just to get in. Brazilians required an e-visa for US citizens. (Russia, China, Bolivia and Brazil are the ones who ask too much paperwork to acquired a tourist visa for 30 days.)
Before E. Morales was in power, used to be that all you needed to show was your passport. I guess all these requirements were given when Evo Morales broke diplomatic relations with USA.
Very well done in your video.

      2. I don't know the size but when you get a passport they'll give you the pictures and it's always the correct size so you don't need to worry about that.
      3. I didn't notice an expiration date on my card. You may want to look into that some more.
      5. That was our plan as well. We just made up an itinerary and that was fine, they never questioned us about that.
      6. yes, flight or bus ticket out of Bolivia.
      7. I'm not sure, you should look into that. The bank statement was easy so we went with that option.
      8. No the hostels we stayed in did not sign anything
      9. We didn't have to pay for US currency, we only paid on the other side of the border to get Boliviano
Sorry, I don't remember the border crossing, we traveled from Cusco to La Paz. And as for the exit, it was easy, just show your exit card and get a stamp. It was super easy.
I recommend double checking everything, you never know if they change things =/
      Have a BLAST!! :) 💟Amanda

@the NYC Couple you might have had it easier if you applied for the Bolivian visa in USA mail in your requirements and passport to the consulate that serves your area and in a period of time you get your passport back with visa in passport.
If you go to Paraguay you need a visa as well and the process is the same you can get your visa processed in the states ahead of time or you can get it at the airport. i believe you CAN'T apply for the visa at the Paraguayan border ONLY at the airport. so if you plan from like going from another country into Paraguay you would have to apply and have the visa from a consulate in the states ahead of time OR at the nearest Paraguay consulate in the country u r in if it's close cool if it's hundreds miles away well you got along trip ahead of you. advantages of processing your visa ahead of time in the states is the consulates DON'T CARE ABOUT THE CONDITION OF YOUR MONEY HAHAHA they take check or cashier's check or money order etc. also if you have your visa ahead of time when you get to immigration it's just a few questions and you through. thats the process i did in Paraguay. the cool thing about Americans for the Paraguay side at least for the consulate processing alot of the requirements for the visa are waived like bank statements flight itinerary etc etc that's unofficial the consulate told me they are not strict with americans only other countries etc. I looked at the Bolivian mail in visa process for the states and it's basically the same as Paraguay
    hope this helps.

    - Ha! Dude, here in Viet - people wanted me to eat dog. I didn't. I'm down for anything, but, I figured it would create a massive controversy if I did...so...I didn't. Guinea Pig is OK 😜
Dude, this is crazy. Stuff like this makes me NOT want to visit. Sooo many hoops to jump through. Such a headache 😖

    • @MarkAmanda

Hahaha - that's a tough one! I'll eat most anything, but I'd have to really contemplate a dog... Still regret not eating the damn guinea pig. Yeah, we almost skipped Bolivia because of the cost and the hoops, but it's such a beautiful place, we have to edit the video asap!
