@@XplayPictures Normal tourist places are not dangerous in Peru, although pickpocketing may happen as well as getting your phone snatched out of your hands. In non tourist areas I've had friends mobbed by groups of robbers, threatened with knifes or guns, and have seen many news reports where people get stabbed or shot when they were being robbed of their phone or some small amount of cash. Quick kidnappings are also common where a person is ambushed by in a 'micro' or 'collectivo' and taken to an ATM to empty their accounts. Also my parents were once almost kidnapped by people pretending to be the police but the neighbors came out en masse and saved them. During Christmas time car robberies are also very common near my house where about three per month would happen on my block (before pandemic): a car full of armed thugs would pull up just as someone is parking and take the car. I've also had to hide behind trees as whole groups of people just hanging out in a park were robbed at gun point by thugs.

@@rockytem2709 Also Lima has some areas where you don't want to go as a tourist, just like any megacity (people living in poor areas don't like it when rich people come to watch them), you see that right. If you end up in a poor area, be willing to pay someone to get you out of there again and get the kids something. Keep in mind that also a lot of people won't hesitate if they find a chance to make an extra dollar on you, it's a bit part of the game. In this video, the taxi driver asked one sol, giving ten is just too much: just give three to five max for a normal ride. Probably this man knew that asking less would give him more, they know people, but it might be considered as an insult. Peruvians are very kind and helpful, they will treat you with respect and to stay here is very safe in general. The food is pretty good, but it's not my taste (I don't like lemon and I don't like Amazon river fish too much, but more sea fish). As a Peruvian i can say those small restaurants have the best food. The expensive ones are either worse or at best the same. Or are simply different, in that they have other options.

For a restaurant in Peru, a glass bottle is an important asset since owners need those to buy more refilled ones, you just took that one with you and the mrs owner didn't even complain, which is a very subtle welcoming sign :D
Ceviche is one of the reasons to try Peruvian food. I went to a great ceviche restaurant in Lima that was right on the docks. Those are the places to go to for seafood because you know it will be fresh. And in the Cuzco region I had trout ceviche. Yum!
My God I could have devoured 3 plates of the original serving size they gave him. In my country they give you 3 incredibly thin slices of cerviche for $20 😂😂

Most of the cheapest peruvian restaurants don't care about food quality, they just care about quantity and are focused on filling people's stomachs with trash! I'm from Perú and I'm tired to see people eating this kind of food just to survive and not going hungry.
That is a lie, Peruvian gastronomy is good, but the supposed prizes it has won are prizes that are won by people voting on the internet, where the government itself asks that these pages be saturated. The only gastronomies that are World Heritage Sites are French, Mexican and Mediterranean. Greetings.

If it makes you feel better, his Spanish is not that great to be honest. He makes a lot of grammar mistakes all the time and his sentences are very broken. Just to give you an idea of how he actually sounds in Spanish, it's as if somebody in English wanted to ask you "Do you know where I can get some food around here?" but the question came out as "You know food for me here where?". Just in case, of course we as Spanish speakers can pick up what he means in the same way you guys could understand what a foreigner means even if their English is broken but the point is that his Spanish is not that good. I think it's just a matter of attitude: just lose the fear to try a different language and not being afraid to make mistakes!
I agree, I always feel so self conscious & awkward to even try speaking other languages with people. I really admire people that just do it, and don’t give a fuck. Life is to short. Que te via bien!

When I was little, I used to know that area by heart. The place where your video started, during the night, this Afro-Peruvian lady used to come out with her cart and chairs around 7 pm to sell Anticucho and other delicacy. Them hearts were as fresh as it could get. Really lowkey spot. Then head out to Chabuca Granda, which is a park on top of a avenue, about 4 blocks long. That spot was known to have good sweets, such as picarones, alfajores, suspiros, etc. close to that area was this guy who sold amazing fresh popcorn. You could choose how you wanted to be made. I returned to Peru after 12 years, and it has changed. It’s less traditional, more commercial. The lady sadly passed away, some streets were demolished, some of the locals grew out the area and so did I. That was back in 2005, and I returned in 2020. And yes, gringo, there’s crime, so be careful!

@@rockytem2709 That's Peru, not brazil
@@Colancio I was making an example. I don't know enough about peru to talk about it.
Good language skills. As an Anglo, I am jealous on how good your Spanish is.
