- A shape-note hymn written in 1879 by Josiah Kelley Alwood. The song lyrics were inspired by the unusual experience of seeing a rainbow by moonlight! This beloved song was part of my musical heritage growing up in a shape-note singing family and church.

I have always loved this song. Mary, you are at treasure, and I just love your clarity and musicianship.
Wow 🙏👏👏👏🙋♀️💕🐩
This recording has brought me so much joy in times both good and bad. I'm 3000 miles from home, broke, and an older student, but I have my dulcimer kit I'm waiting to put together until I can borrow a screwdriver and this will be the first song I learn. Your videos are a treasure. Thank you, Mary.

Thank you, Mary, for sharing your gift with us! This brought such joy - it was one of my Dad's favorite songs. I bet he's singing it with the Heavenly choir!
Thanks, friends! It was one of my father's favorites, as well.
Lovely rendition, Mary, and expertly executed!

I enjoyed this very much! I had never heard this song played on the dulcimer, which is one of my favorite instruments. You have such a beautiful voice. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for your kind comments! I learned it from my father and he was a shape-note singer.
hi Mary (Connie here)... enjoying your utubes...this is a fun one. makes me want to get my mtn. dulcimer out and come on over!
Thanks Connie! It is time for people to start jamming again. I did get the J & J vaccine and am looking forward to music jams again!
You have a beautiful voice, Mary and that dulcimer sounds wonderful! What a wonderful mellow tone! Do you mind me asking who made that one?
Rick Stone custom built this instrument with a shortened fretboard to accomodate my small hands. He also built Joni Mitchell's dulcimer! It is a one-of-a-kind! He and I played music together for about three decades in the Laurel Creek String Band before he passed away-wonderful times and sweet memories.
@@marygreenemusic5507 Thank you for telling me about that. What an interesting story and what fun you must have had, Mary!
