Looking at comments, I'm one of ya that that bike and others like it look so natural , although it's been many years. I knew so many that had these bikes and ya Ken as many turned them into MX ers as put tags on em and rode to school every day. The bikes from the 70s ran and ran and ran. Ken , I wanna thank you for the many memory trips I've had on you. Awesome.
I've got one ,got it out of a paddock in west australia ,,near basket case..I have never ever seen one for sale or even seen another one..they must be pretty rare..they like rocking horse sh**...the tank is spotless inside ,speedo perfect after decades in the open
Hearing it brought me back to 1971. I had the AT1 125. Sounds really similar and that familiar sound put a smile on my face. It's those little details like the polished side cover that make it look so good.
I had the same exact motorcycle I got it in 1979, I'm 53 years old born in 1971 it had the same paint striping everything, except for the tires had the checkerboard Enduro tires. When my dad first brought it home it was a hand-me-down and the family the throttle cable was broken I wanted to ride it so bad he put a piece of fishing line on the carburetor slide and tied it around the gas tank lead and told me if I wanted to ride it I would have to learn how to pull the fishing line on the side of the gas tank with my right hand while working the clutch with my left hand😂 after smacking a few trees fences and falling over a few times I had conquered this Beast😮 a few days later he got me a new throttle cable from the Yamaha shop it was much appreciated🤕 I rode that bike from 79 to Christmas of 1981 and my dad bought me my first brand new motorcycle at the Kawasaki dealership it was a KD 80 m in blue, I still have it today!!!
I bought my '72 JT2 Mini-Enduro as a basket case with a bent shift lever inside the clutch cover when I was 12 years old. The pipe would carbon up in a couple of weeks, so I cleaned it with an oxyacetylene torch, let it cool off and hit it with a rubber hammer to knock the carbon out. I straightened the shift lever and rode that bike HARD. It ended up with a bent swing arm and a completely worn out engine and had to be shot in the head.
I had one of these. Mine had a round talight. Maybe a 1972 feature? I rode it everywhere. When it would get hot, sometimes, it didn't want to restart. We rode these everywhere. This was a big step up from the Honda mini trail 50 that I had!
That was my first minnicycle bought it used in 74 . I put a down pipe expansion chamber, aluminum rotary valve and got rid of oil injection for pre mixed , I had to be pushing 7 hp 😂
That is so cool! 4:26 Had one that was red with white fenders! Striped for motocross. Younger brother had street legal bike, red with white. Grew up Marty Smith, and that’s how this 10yr old rode it.
That bike is awesome! I cant say it will always work but I have had bikes with stuck clutch issues. I would push start it and drive it around with clutch lever in. It would eventually break loose. Like give her the go with clutch lever in and upshift it more then normal. Fun era! I love seeing these old bikes! Obviously putting new clutch pack is better but I was a kid with no money. lol That one is well redone and thank you Kaplan! 😀
I had a Mini Enduro in 1971 from Sugarman Yamaha in Hollywood, CA and also raced it at Indian Dunes from 1971-1973. I still have many photos of mine from that era. It was a great bike, one i wished i still had today! mine was Red. This actually looks like a 1972, not a '71. Great video!
In the early 70's in Tenn. A kid could get a motorcycle permit at 15. i.e. 125cc, helmet, no freeway, no passenger, so the parking lot at my Jr. High was full with little enduros and a couple little cb' 100's. It was a Glorious time for us to ride past the other kids on rhe bus.
Beautiful little vintage enduro. I know how much Jr loves these bikes, and I totally understand why. They're very classy looking. Love the color of this bike and it's tank badge. It's a shame that the japanese companies don't take as much pride in the looks of their bikes, these days, as they did in the 70's. If Jr and Shay had a young son, this would be perfect for him. They are an awesome couple, need to get married, and give y'all some beautiful Kaplan Grandchildren that grow up to become racers like You and Jr. ML&R.
If your Dad rode Yamaha and loved you = you got one of these to follow him around in 1971. If your Friends had one of these and you never got one -Well, here is your chance.
Ken, you were lucky when you were a kid. The bike's in your time are absolutely so cool looking back then where the fenders steal a plastic? Just curious I always would see Yamaha jt1 mini adorable! I usually would see him in hunting magazines. Amazing that you have one. What a very cool looking mini bike sir. Awesome info sir. Awesome video Ronnie. Very neat looking mini bike, especially for its age. Amazing work Kaplan team mind-blowing
That is a 1972 jt2. I have one with original paint. I am almost done with preserving it, need to replace all the internal seals and install an original piston and rings. It is totally original the way it came from the factory.
Ken you was probably 3 4 years old when that come out and to C1 like this fucking amazing man and this is the only place we see everything I've seen so much on here that I have never seen before and it's crazy wild and fucking fun you got it going on man more than anybody I know you're the real top gee on this mother fucker💯💪🏼💪🏼🌏🤟🏻🤟🏻🇺🇲💚😎👊🏻🗯💥🤙🏻🤙🏻🤝🏼
My brothers both grew up on a 72 mini enduro 60. Really miss that bike!
The good old days of the Simple’s life & times ! Thank you Ken for sharing !
