- Another variation of the Pro2 from Team Associated, the Hot Rod and you can find it here: bit.ly/3NBHkFB This is a 2wd off-road platform that AE reworks for different style cars like the Dakar truck and Short Course truck which are fun off-road. But this is an on-road setup and the question is, how will it do on the Tarmac. Greg goes over the car quickly and then takes it out to a parkinglot for some on-road bashing fun!

i appreciate your candor when calling out the quality control and pricing. we all love r/c and can find the fun in almost any vehicle, but it's refreshing to get a straight review versus one that might be a bit more glowing due to sponsorship or trying to curry favor with the manufacturers. see you in the next one!
Cool looking truck! I feel like the back tires should be bigger though 🤔
Thanks Greg, good video man and watched in its entirety. Like button energized.
Merry Christmas! Also I appreciate this video. Good info.
Merry Christmas! Thanks for watching!!
Have a close look at that steel pin plate up front. The set screw hole is drilled improperly and the pin will slide out. Same defect on the RB10
I really like both of my TA cars, but both also had QC issues. As you say Greg, it's like they need to slow down in the factory.
My Trophy Rat looks great but the power lead for the rear lights was dead straight out of the box. And the pinion gear grub screw was not fully wound in (but they still used Loctite). My first test drive in the street showed no problem but as soon as I went off road, I lost all drive as the pinion slipped. As soon as I went to tighten it back up with their supplied hex wrench, the loctite meant the grub screw just internally striped. This was a real pain to replace.
And my RB10 is a great little street machine, but one of the front wheel hexes was mangled (again, straight from the box). How does this even happen to a front wheel on a rear wheel drive car? I wasnt too fussed because I was immediately putting on some after market wheels.... but it's not the point.
Do you think the parts are compatible with TA kits from around 2000 , I can’t remember the model but chassis looks exactly the same , typical 3 gear tranny . RC10T , I need a hinge pin brace otherwise the cars pretty mint , fast and quiet . I agree 350 to high for parts we know are well mass produced, I bet it’s body and mold , and other body’s are cheap for them to produce
SR10 with a shorter chassis and rat body. Pretty cool, but seems expensive. I'd expect it to be closer to the RB10 price.
Although the Trophy Rat on this Pro 2 platform is my favorite RTR, so maybe it's gonna surprise someone.
Edit: Every TA RTR with those aluminium, unthreaded shocks leaks in the box. I've purchased and gifted several, 100% leakers. Easily fixed, but TA rtrs need to be checked prior to running.
Great timing , ellicit by Christmas so, let's check Greg out for the latest Man sized rc Hot Rod. 👍
Would like this body as interchangeable with the DR10
Different wheelbase. If you trimmed the bedsides to extend the wheel wells and drilled new holes it would probably work
I may have missed it, but how'd the tires hold up in your opinion. I remember you said you'd mention that after driving it. Thanks again Greg!
The issue with the leaky shock can be fixed with some x-rings from traxxas. Second is the esc has very strong brakes. Associated needs to address this with these escs. Replace the esc with something with tuneable brakes and the car will perform much better.
Are straps exposed on bottom?
I wish they'd come back out with the 1/8 Nomad 4wd desert buggy
I want to try and build a Rc car from either scratch or a kit, where do you recommend I start?
Buy a kit according to your likes and budget , race kits are expensive but are quality, tamiya is cool and huge selection but to be used gentle, most people who enjoy kits have built at least one , and builders guys who are really into building are into crawling kits , scale and comp trucks for rock crawling . Traxxas offers builders kit for trx 4 and the slash , I tell kids to buy the slash who want to be mechanical or into rcs
@@RcPlayer-tt2vw I already have the rtr slash with a few upgrades on it, I will look into the trx
@@jacksonnault6316 cool , tekno just came out with a cool truck that’s a kit if you wanted a monster truck
I think ill just but the hr28 to get the look of this one in much cheaper price
I'd like to make crawler body out of that.
Good video, looks decent but not for me.
Just the same car with a different body. To me, that's not a different car. That happens a lot in this industry which I'm not a fan of.
It's a Slash chassis
Slash is Traxxas and long wheelbase. Being Associated and short wheelbase, this is the old RC10 B4 chassis.
This looks cool and all but I'm tired of the same junk every year for the past 4 years
They need to innovate more come up with a new chassis of some sort not just slap a different body and tires on the same chassis that's been around for a long time
If it's the same as the RB10....the brakes are wayyyyy to strong and the gyro is too much of a pain to adjust on the fly. Switched to a Traxxas tQi and sooooo much better
28mph on 3s is incredibly slow 😂 bigger heavy 4x4's are doing 50 55 easy on 3s in today's world. Something isn't adding up 😅
Agree. There's practically no reason a modern 1/10 vehicle can't do at least 40 MPH. Either something is really wrong with the setup or the electronics are just that bad.
@Matt-mh5ud I admittedly wasn't paying attention to the motor. If it the 3300kv It certainly doesn't make any sense.
Those shocks are horrible. Ive dealt with them on the dr10, and the buggy.
Hmm…28 mph on a 3s brushless on road rc doesn’t sound right. Heck a stock brushed stampede can do that. Odd🤔
Bet it would do 60mph ez
I mean it’s not bad and I’m sure people will buy it but the bodies they’ve put on the sc chassis are just kind of ugly to me…🤷♂️ I’d rather have the proline rat rod body if I’m doing that kind of thing
Don't see many barrel rolls. That was sweet dude.
Totally not planned and super happy I got it on camera! lol
@@rcdriver make that a short. For sure. Everyone should see it.
Cool road rig. I prefer the other version of this, specifically that green short course. Great review, Greg. 🤙🏼
