I 100% agree about the .48p gears. I've had all of the Arrma BOOST and MEGA trucks, which use plastic .48p gears and they were absolutely nothing but issues. Seemed like every little jump was stripping spurs. Upgraded to mod .8 (.32p) and never had an issue again.
Yeah my first ever RC car was a 2wd offroad with 48p plastic spur and the stripping of gears almost made me give up RC. Still took me 3 years later to get back into it and I'll never buy a 48p offroad rc again.
11:55 same principal applies to offshore racing boats, when the prop and boat comes out of the water the throttle man backs off on the throttle so the shock of the free wheeling prop doesn't get snapped off when it hits the resistance of the water. I was boogying across lake ontario in 9' waves and a driver taught me that when mine was getting air......
I won one of these this past Christmas. It wasn’t something that was on my radar at all to be honest but I was of course happy to have a new truck. It turns out that I absolutely love driving it. I did end up putting the Fox shocks on the front to get the threaded bodies.
This has been a great series to help decide which trucks will fit me best👌 My choices; Mojave 6s x2 Baja Rey 3s king shocks and Black Rhino. Senton 4x4 3s
1:20 "I have these radios coming out my ears" same as tomley, he scanned his shop and there was a box, about 3' x 3" LOADED with radios. Good luck figuring out which one's with which!
@@RCTNT just thinking, attach a radio hook behind the car on the rack to hold the radio. That'd help too! As for "good luck..." I meant tomley.....he tossed em all in a huge box.
Thought about that, yeah. Decided against it as I want to swap the "background" around for different videos. I already have my radios sorted nicely, we're good 👍
Love this series Craig ( all your content really!) .. Look forward to hearing your thoughts at the end. I just realised watching the start of this I missed the TEKNO review.. Defo checking that out this arvo. Have a great weekend mate.
This is another excellent review. I watched one other video on this truck and it performed well on an indoor dirt track. As I watched your video, I am thinking who's going to buy this? Is it going to be so popular that tracks will offer a class to run. My thought is no. If Associated is trying to compete with small bashers made in China, it will fail. As you said it's a 2wd buggy with a short course body. Associated does this over and over. This car sells for about $335. You can buy the new brushless Slash for $270. You mentioned the 48 pitch gears. Myself I have never had much trouble with 48 pitch gears.
On a track I think the gearing would be fine. Same for potential buyers. But not for tougher driving than that, perhaps. It's good enough, but there's better for the money for most folks.
Watched your videos for a long time now, great channel! Thank you ☺️🤘 and thanks for explaining about 32 vs 48 pitch gears in that truck. What are the advantages /disadvantages of 32/48 in different applications? Crawlers for example? 32 is just stronger? Sorry for the nievoity, im ok with most things and done my research but gear pitches ive never really considered until watching your video about this truck. Thanks
No worries, thanks for your comments here. 48p is smoother, 32p is stronger. That said, even at the highest level of competition in RC Crawling (which I've participated in), there's no world where I want 48p. 32p is plenty smooth. Compared to MOD1, 32p (which is effectively MOD0.8) is a great compromise for strength and smoothness.
Got sr10. Noticed compared to my serpent buggy the enormous play (as i would call it) in for instance ballstuds etc. I would change out stuff on my serpent and call them worn out with that much play. Would expect from a race brand better tolerances. Shocks were leaking also and handling "out of the box" wasn't great too. Think they could and should have done better...
There is a lot of play in a lot of models, yes. Different machines made for different purposes, I guess - but I'd also like to see tighter tolerances in their parts. Everything's built to a budget too of course!
@@RCTNT i get what you say, but... How can a serpent (race)roller cost 230€ which has almost all the bells and whissles you really need like diff height inserts, adjustable arms, etc, etc. That car would more likely compete with a b6 which is around 400. So i think personally that, or the serpent is a steal and overlooked, or the associated is to expensive for what it is...
You have a ton of RC cars and a lot of experience in your opinion what RC car would you recommend for (backyard racing in the desert with loose traction. My backyard for example has an oval and L-shaped track and it's really fun ripping around the corners almost as you're drifting the SC10 is perfect but I'm trying to keep that more for the clay track is there anything ready to run that rips really well in the desert ,good handling/ durability wise? Cheers. I have three losi rock rey and rips nice but very squirlly. The Maxx and Rustler doesn't have a proper turning radius so I'm looking for like a desert buggy or even a desert truck or anything u recommend. I bought the tekno sct410 2.0 and u were totally right about it. It's 10 out of 10 aside from over heating. Maybe because the truck is heavier
I love these videos. I was wondering; I need to dig through your library, but do you have any info on the dimension of the shelves you've made for all your vehicles?
Used zipties as shock spacers on my first Traxxas Slash. 2wd w no gyro is fun but hard to learn that throttle control. Gyro ftw, instant hero driving and slides. I feel like alot of people drive sct's like bashers.
@alfoard7709 I've never, ever driven a RC with a gyro! I'm old and just now getting back into the hobby. So this gyro idea blows my mind. My first new purchase was a MJX H8H trail truck. Seems to work pretty well for sub $400 usd truck
Cool truck for a buggy. I have a Pro4sc10 and I can’t understand how these are the same price. The power plant is really the only thing that’s the same between them and this just seems all around less.
I wish your video had come out before I bought my prolt2! Total disappointment, very difficult to drive and not that fun because of it. I have yet to find a place to run it where it works. I had leaky shocks, the top caps needed a little sanding down to flatten the edge, no leak since then. I've used arrma shock clips, I can't believe AE couldn't supply them, especially at that price. Did I mention I feel it's way overpriced? Anyways, keep up the good work, I really enjoy your content. Cheers!
I'm disappointed for you. Yeah it's clearly a tight track oriented thing and not a great basher by any stretch. I guess not everything is designed for such a purpose, as the Pro4 is just perfect where this one is frustrating! Hope you find your way with it.
Thanks Craig! I think the pro4 is my next purchase, I was thinking about converting my MT10, but that one is too much fun! I still got move for AE, I'll find something fun to do with the LT10! Cheers!
Turns out this truck shouldn't be used on a tight circuit on 3s and without the gyro, or maybe I need more practice! Turns out this truck is tons more fun on 2s, and with th gyro on base setting of 4. Jumps well, fast enough, I can say its properly good! The short wheelbase makes it harder to drive, but also more rewarding when you get it just right.
It is! I'm itching for a Fury, any chance you'll be doing a review on that? Thank you again for your replies, I appreciate that you take the time to interact. Cheers! 🍻
