It's amazing what just a proper wash did for that car. I can only imaging how it would look with clay bar work, ceramic coating and ppf. Can't wait to see it when he's finished tweaking it.

Install some protective wrap on the back fenders where the factory wrap is located. Go higher or get mud flaps. Mine is thrashed

Always at least PPF wrap the front end of every Tesla. I can show you the front of our first M3 if you need a demonstration.
I really wish I would have PPF wrapped the front of my 2017 MS. Tesla paint is soft and relatively easy to get it to delaminate from the plastic parts if you scrape it against something.
Would love to see a video about the Rivian (and Lightning, if you have time left on the loaner) as well!
Do this paint test on all cars I'll love to see a Porsche by the numbers like this

Why did you guys not remove the wheel caps and wash/evaluate the alloy wheels? mostly because I would love to see how it looks underneath the aero caps :P
those wheel caps are hideos, the wheels underneath are actually good looking
Amazing Plaid & Coleton is awesome! I picked up a new (the last in the US) 2022 BMW 330e on Friday 6/17/22 in white. The so called dealer-prep was terrible from the LA BMW Dealer with the gooey residue from the plastic covers, and my all time pet-peeve -- black fingerprints on all over the light interior door handles, seat belts and seats...yuch. Not to mention fingerprints on the white trunk lid and the touchscreen.
Anyone know of a detailer of this calibre out in the Los Angeles area?
Door scratch appears to have happened after pickup; quarter panel is unclear from a quick glance of 4-6 minutes of previous video. First blemishes happen, glad it's minor; time to enjoy!

Great video as usual. You were right in the video in that the red and white paint with tesla are the only 2 with multi coat paint which is in the paint description when you purchase the car. The white paint I believe, once sold for 2000 more prior to being free. Keep up the great work 👍
For the price of these cars Tesla needs to stop being so cheap and multi-coat all of them. They come up with the car with great features, and then don't take it to the end and cheap out when it comes to paint and finish
@@kpv123 The main problem with the tesla paint is that in California there very stringent on what chemicals are in the paint formula, making the paint softer. I would like to see the cars made in Texas.

Picked up my first Tesla last weekend , Model 3 LR in Red. Wish I had watched your vlog first as my paint was full if swirls from the dealer cleaning. I have some debris in the paint on the passenger rear wing and a scuff on the front driver side bumper. Not impressed with tbe paint quality. Booked in to have then resolve it
Bring it to us instead!
I got a 2022 red performance. I did the same, (don’t wash) I have almost perfect paint.
Can you do a 70mph range test on the aero wheels before you change them?
I just picked up a black model 3 performance. Looks amazing - but a big paint defect on the hood. Looks like the hood is steaming when the sun shines…

Black is the best look color (shade) there is when clean. Only problem is it’s only clean for 10 min before it’s dusty. 100% agree with you on the round steering wheel. That will make it a much better “drivers” car. I’d love to own one like it someday. Enjoy!

The round steering wheel is one of the first things I would do also. That yoke thing just ain’t for me. I wish they would just make it optional.
I personally love it gives you a clear view of the instrument cluster . I'll happily take the time to learn use the yoke the only thing I don't like about it is the horn placement

When they make it variable steering like toyota's, I feel people will change their minds. To not have to turn the wheel beyond 150 degrees but still be able to do u turns and 3 point turns and track racing sounds amazing. They've been working on it for over a decade and are ready to debut it.
People that don't own or driven the Model S or Plaid should give zero options about the yoke. The Yoke is easy to drive and there are no complaints from me. The Yoke keeps your hands in the correct position which is very important for a 1000hp. I love the increased visibility. People that say I will not buy the S because there is no round steering wheel are just BSing. I had the car for almost a year and have done drag racing, autocross and road racing; most people will only go to the grocery store or church lol.

I just PPF’d the high threat areas on our 2020 Y (full bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors, lower doors and door edges). With ceramic tint on the front door glass I paid $1880 here in STL. Will be doing the same with our new PMY. I can tell you after 21K miles that’s all I ever needed. This time I will ask him to PPF the the CF spoiler. I did scuff up the rear hatch area where a spoiler is attached. His estimate today is just at $2K.
Can you use touchless car wash after PPF?
Are you going to do this on your Rivian? I think that something that should be done since you are doing it on a Tesla. I’m curious to see what rivian has done.

Wow. I have that same bubble defect on the same rear quarter panel, I thought the guy at the tint shop damaged it... crazy to see that here.

A few requests, if you don't mind me asking. I'm looking forward to the efficiency tests with and without the aero wheels, but can you also do a skid pad g-Force test and braking test before you put the MW05 wheels with wider tires? Also, is there any chance you could compare stock brakes to MPP stock rotors and then MPP 400 mm rotors? Curious if there is a difference. I've got a Model S Long Range on order, but seriously considering the upgrade to Plaid. Just not sure if it is worth the $35k, so a comparison of LR vs Plaid would be super helpful too! Sorry for the many requests, but I'm just a future Model S owner who is really curious! Thanks Kyle and Out of Spec Team!!!

That front license plate frame though
Kyle explained that in the delivery video. Its part of the 5MPH bumper requirement. The hood is so close to the bumper, that at 5MPH the hood is also damaged, any repair above a certain dollar amount and it fails the federal bumper test. So they added that license plate thing. It is removable thankfully. But cant be sold without it.
18:30 your NOT at 0 particles as soon as you switch, the whole system is already full of "dirty" water from before.
This is the "Rolls-Royce" of Tesla, any of these issues should be red flags for what you dont see of QC.
For a M3/Y sure its good enough, but for the best Tesla can possibly offer its not

Not the best car but a good car lol……… a BMW 5 series diesel has about 900 miles of range, is super fast top speeds super stable on the autobahn, can tow for days and days and is a family vehicle too.

That was very interesting. Honestly, the single defining feature of that car is 1000HP which is freaking wild. It makes the nastiest 1960s/70s muscle car look like a Prius.

Nice video, thanks! I disagree that such differences in thickness of the paint is common for other manufacturers. I have never seen such differences on Hondas or any other Japanese cars built for Europe. I cannot judge Germans ones, as I have never owned one, but I doubt it. Maybe for the US market manufacturers do not care that much.

I have not seen a lot of your videos, maybe 3 or 4, and in those I have yet to see any evidence that there is anyone else involved in the actual testing. You use hand held cameras or tripods and seem to always be alone, but constantly say "we". This makes it seem like you are trying to pass your channel off as something bigger than it is, which feels pretentious and dishonest and ends up turning me off from your content. These are all perceptions and feelings that could be totally off, but they are my honest take from the videos I've seen so I wanted to spend a few minutes of my time to give you honest feedback. Don't let this get you down or put you off but maybe do use it as a point of input for possible future improvements.

Had 3M PPF applied to my car within a week. Inside of three years black mold or fungus was under the PPF and after some words, got the 3M master installer to replace the hood cover. Two and a half years later, same problem. But since their warranty apparently is only five years from the first installation, they would do nothing for me. It took a body shop most of two days to get the hardened PPF off the hood, half an inch at a time.
Extremely disappointing.

Tesla has been working to improve their paint quality for what....about 5-6 years? Rivian is in its first 6 months of production and so far their gaps and paint quality, while not perfect, are pretty close to what Tesla is delivering.

@@ogzombieblunt4626 Yes, Rivian needs to figure out profitability. Which, honestly, for auto manufacturers mostly comes with scale. Rivian can't build just 25,000 vehicles a year. Or 50,000. They need to get to over 100,000 vehicles a year as quick as possible....then get to 250,000. And they can't take 5 years to do it. Volvo sold about 122,000 cars in the US in 2021 (and about 700,000 worldwide), and that is concerned a niche company. SCALE. Rivian needs to figure out how to build their cars a lot faster. Including mine!

Not much on Tesla's has improved. I have two S's one being my 2013 I still have. Build quality and paint is way better than my 2020. Worst part is Tesla service, or lack of...

I learned my lesson a long time ago, never, NEVER, buy a black car (or a white one for that matter). They are a nightmare to maintain if you are a fan of a clean car. It always looks dirty, all blemishes are plain to see and any effort to fix blemishes look worse than the original issue. Again, NEVER buy a black car. And I have to agree, did Tesla steal those wheels from a 1980's Toyota Tercel? UGH this is their most expensive car for God's sakes!

No, the Plaid is faster 0-60, but worse in just about every other performance category.. And the Porsche is much nicer on the inside. Keep in mind Kyle has done A LOT of miles in a Taycan.. He did the cannonball run in one.
Both are pretty awesome cars.. The Plaid is cheaper. But not as nice as a daily driver.

These are not mall crawlers, they test the crap out of their cars to give the viewers very detailed reviews. There are probably some limitations when a car is on loan to you. If you can get these incredible cars, go for it and enjoy.

Does NOT need to be lowered -- the shape of the fenders match the shape of the wheels. Lowering it will ruin that. And would look several million times better with chrome-ish/shiny wheels. "You kids with your dirty black wheels." Bleah.

I just don’t understand why after paying this much we have to pay again to fix their amature mistakes.It’s just fast and fix the gas is the problem,This car used to be 80k 2 years ago with same quality(the long range)
So after 2 years paying 50k extra for just 0-60 and increasing the insurance and all I think if we paid for the gas with a 80k car it would have end up cheaper.I just don’t get it.

Tesla has the best vehicles out there, but still not as good as other brands in terms of design and quality! (This car is 10years old) I’ll definitely buy the next redesigned Tesla when it will come out and hopefully there are no quality issues!
You might be waiting a while for a redesign. Tesla start with a classic design, keep it forever and constantly tweak and upgrade the tech and hardware underneath the body panels. Time and R&D money better spent on improving the inside rather than the outside.
Best is subjective. To me, quality is extremely important in determining at least high echelon and I wouldn't put Tesla up there. Refinement is another thing. Overall, I don't rank Tesla as even close to best.
The Model S is a beautiful sedan. Timeless. I’ll miss it terribly when we upgrade to our Ford Lightning.

Also this car is not 10 years old it’s just the design and they have been seriously lacking in the quality control department despite making very few same cars lol….. they have only 2 car models the model3/y and the model s and x( butterfly doors)
