@@velikanskaglava2087 my dude, you didn't watch the video, did you? -> he's editing it. he can look at the "timer", but it will only show him how much footage he has recorded so far, which he even said -> 1hour 4 minutes.
On a side note, Explore is an amazing mechanic, because it's not too powerful, but it has utility and gives the person playing the card a decision to make. More mechanics should be like it. I'm super glad it's back and I wish WotC would revisit more mechanics like this.
The way it actually plays is fantastically designed, and I think it should be more highly rated in terms of card design. The only problem with it is that it's kind of inelegant and unintuitive -- if you're not familiar with the mechanic, there's just a significant amount of *stuff* to remember when you see "X Explores" on a card. It interacts with the top of the deck, +1/+1 counters, and lands all at the same time.
I was sooo surprised that the dragon dino is his fav card of the day but I guess he just didnt cover the instant speed free sac outlet creature yet. You know he is going to adore that one
There were a lot of people that didnt like Ixalan...but the set came out right as I was teaching my 7 year old son how to play and the dinosaur theme hooked him. He loved it. So I'm psyched for this set. Thanks for the great work Dev. Always love your preview vids.
I actually like that the "decent" keywords are similar, because it tells you that they functionally are one mechanic; permanents in your graveyard. _Fathomless Decent_ doesn't even matter that much since it's just a flavor keyword, but still nice that it points to the same thing. If they had distinct keywords, that'd be way more confusing for me.
So if you control a card with a finality counter on it, you can play a card like Render Inert to remove the finality counter so it could be returned to the battlefield or your hand again.
I want to start off by apologizing for not always liking AND commenting on your content. You are a gem of a person and I whole heartedly appreciate your hard work and passion! Great stuff, my ninja
The mechanics being fun does not excuse the mechanics being confusing. I recently caught up with old friends who I used to play magic with. One I see more frequently and we still play occasionally, but his conversation with the rest was all about how hard magic is to understand at all anymore Which they all agreed about, having on their own looked back into the game on occasion. These are people who used to play at least 3 times a week 20 yrs ago and they were all saying they couldn't understand what the game mechanics even were anymore.
It is a cumulative effect too. If you play frequently, it’s just a few new mechanics at a time. If you been gone for years then pretty much every mechanic is new. Depending how long it’s been even sagas and equipment are new. As well as flip cards, adventures not to mention any italicized key word things
I love that Descend is the opposite of Ascend in XLN/RIX Ascend cared about permanents on the battlefield (i.e. above ground) Descend card about number of permanents in graveyard (i.e. below Ground)
I love your videos! I also love poison dart frogs! Keep doing the great work covering everything! Can't wait for the sweet wacky brews that will be coming!
Sounds like Descend checks the number of permanents in your graveyard on activation, Fathomless Descent checks the number of permanents in your graveyard continuously
I don't think that is quite right, at least for Descended. I think tokens that die are counted to since the ruling change they hit the graveyard and then instantly disappear therefor not filling your graveyard, but triggering enter the graveyard mechanics like descended. Though I may be wrong, I don't get rule lawyery enough to 100%, but I would put my confidence around the 80% mark.
Finality counters are better than the typical exile if dies text because you can just blink the card and remove the counter allowing you to keep recurring the card a bunch. Probably not going to be super relevant always but maybe some card could be busted with stuff like Hex Parasite.
So, Souls of the Lost is basically an enhanced version of Tarmogoyf > self pumps, so when it comes down (as opposed to Tarmogoyf) self-mills and allows you to have him down as a 1/2 at the very least (let's say you mill a land and an instant/sorcery, worst-case-scenario). for 1 and a black... wow!!
@@reidyo5404 i wanna see what its price is going to look like, considering tarmogoyf has been fluctuating a lot and lately just dropped. Plus this is black and fits into more deck archetypes. I bet it could almost go sky-high.
One thing I don't think you touched on is the synergy between Explore and Descend. Any time you Explore, you either draw a card if it's a land or, if it's not, you have an opportunity to Descend while getting a +1/+1 counter on board (assuming you built your deck with a bunch of permanents). It's not quite as good at putting permanents in the yard as straight-up milling, but it's a great way to trigger Descend while also enjoying the benefits of Explore maintaining your card advantage and tempo.
I'm so pumped for this set. Khans is coming to Arena in December or something, and out of those cards, I really wanted to build a Sidisi HB deck. Then, they throw a bunch of cards that synergize with her right in my lap. Happy Birthday 🎉 Collin Beal 🎉 (my birthday is December 6)
I'm impressed by your ability to correctly estimate that you're exactly 35 minutes into the edited video based on how long you've been recording at the time
In Jim or Greg’s defense… He was probably joking until he seen the sheep rally… Then he exhaled onto his wrist and proceeded to polish his breastplate 😅
I think you might have missed a few cards that got spoiled earlier in the day - Saheeli, Vito, Restless Prairie, and Bartolomé. Bartolomé really seems up your alley! Also, it might have gotten shown after you recorded, but Thrashy B is back too.
with uchbenbak you could remove the finality counter (In EDH or maybe there's a card in standard that removes counters) so that way your able to constantly bring him back from the graveyard.
This set looks like it's gonna play great, but I think it's kind of overloaded with mechanics that are just kind of... confusing to play with. Especially for new players who aren't already familiar with Cascade and Explore. Now, to be clear, I DO think that these mechanics will be really fun to play with, I just think that there's going to be a LOT of, "Wait, that card doesn't quite work the way I thought it worked" at a lot of different Magic tables.
You should review the new cards in the commander decks Dev! I know you're busy with the unending onslaught of standard cards, but I always want more of your content.
Personally I think that craft is a great mechanic, and it’s probably better than we’re expecting it to be. Because on the artifact cards that have it, they say nothing about using an artifact “token” to pay the additional cost. Just some food for thought guys.
i have a feeling the most popular mode for cosmium confluence will be fetch a cave give it 6 counters and attack with it. and if that cant win you the game Quintorius Kand...lol
Keep in mind that The Everflowing Well doesn't make a token. It simply turns another permanent you control into a copy of a permanent spell you are casting until the end of the turn. For example, if you cast a Blightsteel Colossus, you could make a clue token you control be a copy of it (until the end of the turn) and swing with it that turn. I have a feeling that The Everflowing Well is likely going to get banned because of infinite combos/instant kills it'll facilitate.
I haven't played standard in years now (since pioneer came out) but I still love watching dev's videos from time to time. I love that he does what he loves (that being standard) but I wish he played pioneer. I'll always watch your spoiler season videos :) Much love, Dev

Jadelight Spelunker might be amazing... IF there's serious Explore payoffs. Remember that 1/3 Elemental that got a +1/+1 counter and gained you 3 life every time you explored? Imaging the Spelunker in that deck.
Hit the Mother Lode: You should probably not build around it by including big fatties hoping to hit one and instead just put it into some artifacts/treasures/sacrifice matter deck. If most of the cards in your deck are 3 or less mana (which they should), what this does is generate 7 mana/treasures (what you just paid) but you got a free 3-drop. I think this card is actually really saucy because it's doesn't really COST 7 mana. It has a +3 mana ritual built in. You merely need to be ABLE to produce 7 mana. If your deck is built well enough, you'll likely never be unhappy to draw this in EDH or even in non-singleton formats. A treasure focused deck should easily be able to cast this turn 4/5 and be able to convert the "free" drop plus extra treasures into a board advantage. It's like a 7-mana Black Lotus with built in card draw but you don't know what you're going to cast off of it. (unless you actually do because of top or brainstormy effects but that is super not worth it imho.)
Wake up babe, new season of Dev spoilers just dropped
"What are we, 35 minutes into the video realistically?" - Dev @ 34:44
Dang, he's good.
Plot Twist: he edited the video to have that at around the 35 minute mark so we would be impressed 😂😂😂 . He didn't, but it's funny to think about.
No timer?
Editing Dev is the Blue mage all the other Dev's secretly fear. By far the most underated character in the Strictly Cinematic Better Verse

I was gonna joke that Dev spent half the video explaining new mechanics. But according to the time stamp, I think he actually did.
