Funny enough, The Millennium Calendar was legitimately being discussed in the Lantern Control circle. People are going to try it, but my personal opinion is that Saga token beats and milling are just better win-cons. It does remind me a little of the old 10 turn clock with Pyrite Spellbomb and Academy Ruins that the deck used to run.
I don’t think molten collapse is solely comparable to dreadbore. In modern, this hits hardened scales, expedition map, sigarda’s aid/nearly every card in hammer, and amulet of vigor. all 4 of these (scales, tron, hammer, titan) are top 10-12 decks. also, scales is scam’s worst nightmare. not to mention, this card isnt just versatile, it can also be a 2 for 1. this card will definitely see sideboard play, maybe even some mainboard play. I would say comparing molten collapse and dreadbore is like comparing opt and brainstorm. they shouldnt be put in the same sentence
Yeah I was completely blown away when he didn't mention how easy it would be in modern to get both modes going because of fetch lands. Seems like the number 1 upside to any card that requires you to Descend in this set, is that its basically free if you're in modern and playing a multicolor deck
There is another Rampant Growth in pioneer, but it makes the land a fractal with some counters on it, so it's easier to kill. I forgot the card name, it's from STX
Spelunking does actually work with amulet I believe. Judge has told me that because the etb tapped effect on a land and the etb untapped effect on spelunking both happen at the same time you get to pick which one happens, so the first copy is just amulet but after that if you have multiple amulets you just choose to have the land be tapped etb.
This would be true if spelunking were a trigger but it isnt. Amulet is a trigger that uses the stack when a tapped land enters the battlefield. Spelunking just states they dont enter tapped EVER. There is no trigger to order in spelunkings case.
@@Fallen_Drag0n I used the word trigger wrong, that’s my bad. I mean the etb tapped keyword on the land itself. This may change with official confirmation but by the understanding of a few different judges the land can be made to etb tapped if the user wishes because the effect on spelunking and itself occurs at the same time. That might not be the exact wording that explains it properly and it might be confirmed to not work by WOTC themselves but that was what was indicated to me by several judges.
Dauntless Dismantler hits Blood Tokens in Pioneer for W, which is huge for a lot of matchups. It's also a Human, so will 100% see sideboard play in Humans to help them against Rakdos.
I don't think Humans is interested in paying 3 mana (2 for the body, 1 for the effect) to destroy a Blood token (and while we're at it, 5 mana to destroy Witch's Oven) when Portable Hole exists
I know it wasn't mentioned in the video, but I've been brewing with Amamlia the new vampire explore/lifegain legend in pioneer. I slotted the combo into my pioneer soul sisters shell, and even when you don't hit the wildgrowth walker combo, it works very well as another ajani's pridemate effect.
Think you're massively underrating Tishana's Tidebinder. It counters evoke elementals, the one ring, bowmasters, w&6, teferi, leyline binding. Basically stops every headache for modern merfolk
Someone correct me if im wrong but is spelunking or geological appraiser not that bad in something like 5c yorion fires? You dont get taxed with shocks/triomes with spelunking and appraiser seems like a good amount of sneaky value in that deck.
The millennium calendar has to be one of the most hilarious non-Unset cards ever printed. It’s certainly not actually good, but I’m going to find SOME way to make it work. Probably in EDH since almost anything can work there. Also, while it’s not the main focus of the video, a lot of these cards seem incredibly OP in limited and I fear this limited set is going to be super “prince” like Crimson Vow.
You are underrating Echoing Deeps. Copying a Wasteland or and Urza's Saga in the graveyard is strong and in turbo depths decks in legacy just getting more copies of Dark Depths/Thespian's Stage can be good.
I’m definitely putting pugnacious hammerskull in Golgari sorin/fight rigging instead of the ogre, since I already have ghalta and mavren and rotting regisaur My friend is also putting spelunking in his gates ramp deck
i think the ancient one might be playable, there's a MID spell called corpse cobble, with which u can sac the ancient one to make a 8/8 token with menace, in addition to that, there's a new artifact in LCI - the skullspore nexus which due to the ancient one's power, only costs GG. And there's fight rigging ofc. idk if it's good enough but the synnergy is there.
Also, Lazav the Multifarious can copy The Ancient One from the graveyard after it's already declared as an attacker, which iirc gets around the attack or block clause. Unfortunately this doesn't work for Likeness Looter because that ability is only at sorcery speed.
@@wiater1569 You can't activate Likeness Looter while it's attacking to get around The Ancient One's Descend 8 clause because Likness Looter's ability is only as a sorcery. At that point, you're better off just casting The Ancient One.
Am I getting this right? Enigma jewel craft ability is worded so you can exile non-permanents from your graveyard if they have activated abilities(it doesn't specify permanents when exiling from GY). So if you craft it with isochron scepter and magma opus and you can play magma opus every turn if you have jewel in play
@@AmmiO2 I suppose. I was thinking of using it in a shell with Bloodghast. Pioneer did not have a Goyf or a BBE type card and this set seems to have delivered both. At least this will only cost 4 WCs on Arena to test.
I want to Tidebender the one ring so bad. I don't care if it is bad for me I just want to see the ring user sad. Also i does not work against humbling lands, only stifle:ing.
There's no point. The format moves too fast and is too unpredictable. Or alternatively, the format is too set in stone (e.g. all black Sheoldred midrange decks).

Yeah, idk if Scam has the room for maindeck copies, but it's an SB must-have at the very least.
I think you missed the The Millennium Calendar and All Will Be One combo
Spelunking will be in every gates deck and can now win a couple turns early.
I love Age of Empires music so much
glad a lot of people are pointing out the complexity creep in this set
kitesail larcenist makes creatures into a treasure but they keep the creature card type, they can be used as sac fodder, blocking, and flickering
There is another Rampant Growth in pioneer, but it makes the land a fractal with some counters on it, so it's easier to kill. I forgot the card name, it's from STX
The Millennium Calendar works with Thopter Foundry + Sword of the Meek + Time Sieve.

Really? Blood tokens aren't in the slightest worth sacking a creature for, and really only Sackdos makes them
Couldn’t geological appraiser cascade into valki to cast tibalt?
incoming discover errata god damn it
Thousand moons smithy is kinda cute with wedding invitation but otherwise it's just a fat block of text.

It requires very specific situations to be good and competes with other 3-drops like Svyelun and Merrow Reejery.

Tidebinder doesn’t work against lands, it says “artifact, creature, or planeswalker”
Darn. Reading the card sometimes explains the card.

I'm sure there's a ton of combos you can do with it, but it's extremely expensive and cumbersome to get the backside.
What are your thoughts on Souls of the Lost?
I don't get why people are hyped for it. Discard/sacrificing is a substantial cost, one which will keep it from seeing any player in older formats.

Ancient one going STRAIGHT into mimeoplasm
It's impossible to know the rarity of a card in this set by looking at the set symbol😅 Thanks for the video.
What about Lost souls? I thought that card would be pretty good

There's no point. The format moves too fast and is too unpredictable. Or alternatively, the format is too set in stone (e.g. all black Sheoldred midrange decks).
As a formats power goes up control slowly dies. That's just the trend of things. Too many threats. Too hard to make all your answers align.
