It's like Southern's band is composed of all former high school 1st chairs who know how to play their position.
They sound phenomenal per usual.
Seems like the energy is always better when the play each other in Jackson for some reason. Looking forward to Boombox 2022!!!

Correct!! The problem is whenever the game is at Southern they always have the band squeezed in that tight corner when they are set up and clearly have the elbow room that the visiting band doesn’t. In my opinion that is pure sabotage. Why would you have to do that if you are as great of a band as you “supposed” to be. If you open your eyes you can clearly see that is horrible sportsmanship 🤷🏽♂️
JSU's stadium seems much, much bigger.

I have to give this one to SU. The musicality, tone, arrangements, CLEAR arrangements, my goodness SU did that. I’m a fan of JSU however SU book and that POWER arrangement did it for me.

Both bands did great but had their issues. Wrong notes, not playing as a unit per section, as well as phrasing issues on some songs. Power wise I give it to SU but that’s a given. SU has always had power. I really think you should go back and watch a few of the other 5th vids too bro. This battle was actually a lot closer than most think song for song until Dr. Little said F it and they bounced. Shit was insane in person. Overall I’ll say this was a W for the entire band world. It seems like we waited on this battle forever.

Taylor's sister was in the JSU band while Mr. Taylor & his elder brother choose to join the Jukebox. When Mr. Taylor was in HS in '96, he & his older brother wrote SU"s Neck arrangement. I've been trying to figure why I don't like JSU...I mean to my ear they sound bad. I've never had to listen to any of their songs more than once. I realized watching this battle a 4rd time I don't like their sound for two reasons: the quints (constantly sounds like someone's at my door-very irritating to my ear) and the songs are arranged in mid- to upper-mid ranges. I like the lower brass better. JSU leaves out the mid-lower and the low. For this reason, I love ASU's "My Life" (I could listen to it all day) and dislike JSU's while understanding that it is technically more difficult. I'm not a bandhead but maybe SU uses their tubas as a consistent bass/drumline, which maybe makes SU's sound richer & more resonant than JUS's arrangement-style. You can also hear this difference in their NECK arrangement.
You just sound delusional asl cuz jsu bass drums and tubas give them way more bass than su tubas never actually have had a actual bass when they had fiberglass

All I’m going to say is this battle was lit! Love that SWAC Energy!
This Battle Shows Exactly Why SWAC Band Or Some Of The Most Powerful And The Most Technical Marching Bands Anywhere. Dont Get Me Wrong There Are Some Heavy Hitters In The Other Conferences But Hands Down You Are Hearing To Of The Best Band In All Of Marching Sports.

I feel loke JSU has been on a classic, rnb, lofi hip hop vibe this year. Some days I'm grooving to it and somedays I need high energy which is the energy Southern typically gives. I enjoyed both bands equally!!

I have been a fan of both bands for years, but SU this year is psycho. Mr. Taylor got them boys on steroids. JSU should of hit them with my Life after Power. Got to match swag with swag. SU Power is toooooo damn hard this year!! Both bands still outstanding. Kudos to Dr. Little over at JSU. But Mr. Taylor at SU is kicking ass and aint taking no names. 🤣

You know you're right! I don't think JSU played "My Life" that night. I don't like JSU but I know they receive accolades every where for their "My Life". I prefer ASU's "My Life". It was a good battle but not as good as "The Rumble in The Rain" 2017 Boombox Classic Zero Quarter that lasted 90 minutes.

@@mainejones989 I said the same thing and JSU fans came at my neck for calling out the choppy bs. Im a true fan of both bands. I know there will be times when 1 or 2 members attack to soft or too early and the cut offs can be a bit late thats normal. Both bands had similar issue but these kids worked their butts off in the cold i respect that. However choppy arrangements i cant do at this level you can leave that to dega just my personal opinion.
Southern needs to stop with cranking on bands when they March in, they doing the same sh*t from back in the 70's,and here's a parting thought why don't y'all stop putting bands in the corner of that sorry azz stadium.

In not a band person im a football guy so I can’t tell you who technically was better but we were sitting on the 20 yard line on JSU side and southern sounded louder from across the field! Maybe it was the angle but JSU band was only about 30 feet to our left.
