Honestly, this sounds like a legitimately good car to own. Seems to do decently well in a lot of categories

Now, if only we can get one properly restored to have Motorweek do a retro review of.... in Superturbodiesel guise.. 2.5L I5 punched out .030 over, upgraded Holset HX30 Super Turbo at 22 psi (75% over stock) , Air/Water intercooler,, high flow 3" exhaust, S600 4 speed auto trans, high performance high flow mechanical fuel injection system with high pressure electric lift pump, upgraded injector nozzles with 25% higher injection pressure. SLK 32 High performance cooling fan with E420 radiator. SL500 front suspension and brakes with E420 rear brakes all driven by an E500 booster over the standard 300D master cylinder. Entire suspension dropped via a Bilstein B8 kit, with progressive rate springs, Sport Bilstein shocks/struts, riding atop Continental DWS All season high performance tires, 225/50 VR16's mounted on alloys from the heavier and larger next generation w210 late model E329..
We'll leave out the interior mods except for the three gouge cluster added on the drivers side A pillar. Interior not yet done with it's makeover..
Exterior has Euro spec headlight assemblies, and taillights are upgraded to ones with euro clear turn signals..
Modest body kit will go on hopefully when the time for repainting comes..
Then have Jon Davis explain in his unique trademark way how the car was instantly transformed in a way he'd have to ask.... Why didn't Daimler Benz make this version of the car back then, and how much would it have cost to have such a unique performance machine? Great mileage and AMG like performance with all the comfort and practicality us Benz owners love lol. I would actually pay to see Jon re-review this car in this guise. Maybe I'll do so once I get it back....
Jon Davis: "Hello again and welcome to this weeks episode of Motorweek. There's an old saying that you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Well today's review of an old Mercedes classic just may have forced us all to revisit that old adage"

My granddad had one and drove it every day for 400,000 miles. The car only died last year. Rest In Peace Mercy.

I am of the hardcore MBZ Diesel fans ! 🤓
    a 1996 W210 , 0M606 , half a million miles n going!😂
When in behind the wheel , I do not want to get 0ut!
But the best thing about owning one of these , is the easy 40mpgees on the Hwys! Cheerios!

One thing that never gets mentioned is the placement of the radio/CD player way down at the bottom of the dash, which is considered bad design

, it's not true that they weren't happy with the performance of the larger diesel benz the 1987 was a much more powerful Diesel than the 1991

I wasn't happy with my MPGees with my '82 240D n later with my 85 190D 2.2L , both gave me about 28mpg but now I am right where I always dreamt to be with my W210 300e giving 40mpgees on the Freeway n 30 in the City. It's the best n most solid cruiser I have ever had 😊
