    I used to run a colored plastics company. The issue you are seeing is one related to pigmentation. In order to color a plastic, you have to use a pigment, which is mixed into the plastic. Pigments are very specialized, and in the case of this run of 11 watches, I can guarantee Swatch had to use multiple sources for the various colors. This problem cannot be solved without choosing a new pigment formulation for the Neptune watch. The watch plastic is not "leaking" dye. In this case, the pigment is either incompatible with the plastic mixture or too much was put in. The "bleeding" issue will stop when the excess is wiped off. I doubt very seriously this is much of an issue with the other colors because it is likely related directly to the pigment used. This extremely common with coloring plastics, and it does not worry me as a consumer. It is also possible that excess pigment built up in the mold for the case--leaving a thin layer of excess that could come off with applied heat and liquid. Not unusual.

      Thanks a lot for this insight. Indeed I had the impression, that it might be a problem of pigment powder residues not bound to the ceramic/plastic body. That would mean that a good wipe off would solve the problem. It would be worse if it is abrasion of the material from the bulk. However, that should not have passed quality control at Omega/Swatch, I am a bit surprised.

    Blue stain should be qc issue. Its a shame they did not found this during their internal review.
    I'm more concern about the strength of lugs. The lug design follows original's stainless steel but material strength are totally different. Plastic is much weaker than steel. Unless swatch found way to internally reinforce the lug, Im guessing over the next months we will start to see cases of broken lugs.

  • @racamon
    @racamon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Ok, really, do a better test. People doesn't sweat water. Use physiological saline solution or at least salt water in the first place. Secondly, that Earth green is more pale, so it is hard to see. Rub it a bit longer. You will wear the watch all day, not 15 seconds. That said, darker colors are more prone to losing pigment than pastel colors. So, don't say that Neptune is isolated case. Mercury and Mars might be the same as well.

  • @nosceteipsum1931
    @nosceteipsum1931 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Logically, if there is clear evidence of a leaking dye on the blue, which you have clearly demonstrated that there is, then because of the same processes being used to make all the colours then surely there must be a high likelihood that the problem exists across the whole range of colours-even if it's not visible to the naked eye. I could of course be wrong, however, this needs further investigation IMHO.

    Honestly I was waiting for them to appears online for MSRP to grab one, but the more I see reviews about that watch the less I want to buy. Yes, they are fun, and has great Speedy vibe, but $260 for them is way too much as you can buy very decent quartz chrono for similar price point. No, they won't have "Omega" logo on them, but they will be stainless steel, with decent crystal, decent strap or bracelet or both, and fully serviceable which means will serve you for decades. Something like Dan Henry 1964, or Bulova Lunar Pilot, or Orient Neo 70s they are the same price, but lightyears ahead specs wise, especially Bulova Lunar Pilot which for $20 extra will come with two straps, sapphire crystal, and high-frequency quartz with +/-10 seconds a year accuracy.
    If you know what you are buying and ready to waste $260 for a plastic watch, go ahead, but if you really want a good deal which will serve you well and long - please look elsewhere.

    As a retired watchmaker with over 70 years of experience i must say that this "collaboration" that Omega has with Swatch is not a " good look " on Omega because it cheapens the Iconic Omega brand. This " collaboration " is nothing more than a licensing deal to license the Omega brand name to Swatch for profit, nothing more, nothing less. This is most evident in the quality of the Omega Swatch watches which in my opinion is 100% entirely made by Swatch without a doubt. If Omega had any involvement in the making of these Swatch watches then the price surely would not be what it is. Good luck to all those who are buying more than one colour thinking that they will become collector's items in the future. Umm, i don't think so !

    • @nla0079

      @@johnkwan4416 You’re trying to make a point based on incorrect information, which doesn’t particularly make you look more experienced in these matters - on the contrary. Surely you’re entitled to your opinion that Swatches are “duds” but that’s not the statement I was reacting to and does not invalidate mine. And calling somebody a Mr Know-it-all because he’s telling you a fact you aren’t aware of is an admission of weakness. Goes to show that age does not necessarily equate wisdom.
