I hope they don’t just limit this collaboration to the Moonwatch, this could be just the start of something of bigger future collabs. They could venture to expanding the concept to the Seamaster Omega x Swatch collab too: there are 31 varieties of the Sea theme for them to think about (e.g., Atlantic, Mediterranean, Red, Baltic, Arabian, South China, Celebes, etc). Another one is Railmaster collab series: the likes of Amtrak, British, Eurostar, Trenitalia, Oriental Express, SBB, etc). Better yet, the Constellation collab series would do great with so many possible variants.
Like any Swatch that has been worn... depends on the usage. I have known people whose only watch was a Swatch, and wore it daily for over ten years. Mine never lasted over a year.
Expect the crystal to be pretty beaten up, mine has small scratches all over it already. nothing some polywatch won't fix though. So far I have 0 scratches on the case itself.
I've been an Omega collector for many years now. I have several lovely vintage pieces and also the "real" Speedy of course. I love the brand, their history and their amazing quality. The MoonSwatch collaboration was a genius move by Omega and Swatch. They really flipped Rolex the biggest of birds. Rolex is way too full of themselves with their scarcity game and it's pissing off a lot of people. I do have Rolex in my collection and love the ones I have. But they are really missing the mark with their arrogance. This puts Omega on peoples radar. Everyone is talking about this. It will not cheapen the brand as you correctly stated. It will definitely make Omega stronger. They are showing the industry that you can make a watch for everyone and that even though smart watches have their place, "old school" watches do have their fan base. I will definitely get one as soon as they are available online.

A spot-on review. Thank you. I was tempted to get one to add to my collection as a novelty, but your review confirmed everything I thought would be a weakness in the watch.
if your chronograph hand is not aligned it is super easy to fix. pull the crown and use the pushers and it allows you to set the starting point of the chronograph hand
I had been waiting for these to become available online or at least, an announcement of that happening. In an interview published today with Swatch's Creative Director, a comment he makes sounds like that might not happen. (despite what the website says). "Ultimately, it comes back to the tactile. “In a moment where so many people are speaking about NFTs and digital projects and immaterial ownership, this is so physical that it’s not even for sale online,” Giordanetti concludes." Is he stating that in the present sense, or does he mean that this will be a permanent part of the marketing strategy? Chris.....I would look forward to seeing the watch with a different strap. Good review. I agree that I would not purchase a premium price in the secondary market.
Can't you adjust the alignment of these hands like most quartz chronos? Usually you pull the crown out and push one of the pushers to adjust the alignment.
Love ❤️ my new Omega Swatch Mission to Mars watch! 😍 The Collaboration is awesome! 👍🏻 I do agree with the video, that you should be patient and Pay 💰 regular retail $260. Don’t pay more! It’s absurd because of desperation!

I was in the swatch store in NYC and picked one up id like to mention the price in swatch stores is now 270 before tax. I know ifs a small difference but thought it should be mentioned.
For $60 I picked up a Daytona look-alike, stainless, solid link bracelet, sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel and mecaquartz movement. All it's missing is the MoonSwatch hype which isn't worth the extra $200 to me.
This is absolutely brilliant marketing! A gateway into the watch world. The masses thought that the Apple Watch killed the wristwatch industry. As a watch enthusiast I never believed this to be true. The younger generation is noticing the entertainment & sports figures & influencers rocking the Tag Heuer, Grand Seiko, Omega, Rolex and even Patek Philippe & Richard Mille brands. I see the entire luxury watch market blowing up over the next few years.
yeah I've had the same conversation with smart watch lovers. They always ask me "but what does it do apart from tell time"... well, nothing, but it's not about that. You either love mechanical watches and their heritage or you don't. The mechanical watch market will never die. I am sure of it.
Hi Chris, which Swatch store did you get it at in NY ? I live in NY and was thinking about trekking to Manhattan to see if I could get one of the 2 that I want. I want the Journey to Neptune and Journey to the Moon. I’m an older watch geek, I’m 59, and have been into watches for a really long time, probably got my first watch when I was 8 or 9. Had a few Seiko 5’s back in the 1970’s, and now I have a a few high end Seikos in the $1,000+ range, but a bunch of Seikos in the $300-$600 range. Also have some Hamilton, as well as 2 Longines watches. So I’m not exactly a watch snob, nor do I usually get sub $300 dollar watches. I think it’s obvious that people who collect watches, buy those specific watches because of the aesthetics of the watch as well as what what they consider “cool”. I think these watches are cool. And I like the aesthetics. Therefore I will buy one or two (most likely two). I’ve seen so many watch snobs bash this watch, say things like the hype ruined the watch industry, blah blah blah. Just buy what you like. If you like the MoonSwatch, buy it. This hobby is extremely personal, it’s about your own journey.
I would not pay over retail for any watch, much less a plastic Swatch Omega knock off that's not even a limited run product. It's a fun in expensive watch, nothing more or less. No clue why some are losing their minds over that...
I understand why Omega's name is everywhere due to its exact dimentions and design of an original Speedmaster but isn't this more closer to the quality of a Swatch than an Omega? Like the font of Omega is bigger than Swatch, it does not look like 50:50 collaboration.
The Saturn is my favorite because of the planet being on the dial. but even at the RRP, there's a lot of really nice meca-quartz chronos from microbrands that seem like better value, tough decisions ha!
Excellent review Chris. Did you try popping off the battery hatch? If so, is it a hard plastic cap or a rubber-like grommet and will it pry off with a small screwdriver?
Amazing video and information. I have been intrigued by bio ceramic, and been a fan of swatches - my gateway drug to spending embarrassing amount of $ on watches since my first swatch. I also had an eye on the Omega moon watch professional, so this collab, as a mini collector is really cool to me. How did you know to stand in line to pick this up from the store? I am in Long Island, and want to make it to the store to pick one up, just don’t know when they restock.
You all missed that the box is designed like a base for the rocket that is about to blast off. It opens the same way, it lifts up the watch the same way a rocket would lift out of the ground below
It’s a really cool toy for people that like things like action figures, that you put up to look at but never play with. But that’s exactly what this is… a toy. It’s not a usable daily watch. Edit: @8:25 - no. This is an absolutely terrible first watch for a new collector. If someone pays $300 for one of these and this is their first entry into watches, they’ll be extremely disappointed in their purchase and they will never pay that kind of money for a watch again. A good $300 first watch for a new collector is a solid steel Tissot v8 automatic Chronograph. In-house ETA movement, sapphire Crystal, and a legit bracelet. If you want a quart moonwatch that isn’t a plastic toy because you are a space fan: buy the Bulova Lunar Pilot for $350. So. So. So many better options than this for a new collector.
Even if I did want one the closest store is like 5 hours away and I don't have time to spend a whole day to go to a store and then just not have one. I still can't believe there's no remedy if you don't live near a swatch if you really do want one. It's supposed to be assessible yet its nearly impossible to get unless you live in a town near our with a swatch store.
Is the bezel a paper sticker or something more robust? Thanks! I am between the mercury and moon one... but have to wait to arrive to Argentina! Great video!
To be fair. I wouldn't replace it with a stainless steel strap. That would look weird. A Leather strap matching the color or a Nato strap seems to be a better fit for me
That misaligned lineup is a usual problem with these serviceable ETA movements. I had a Tissot MotoGP with the same movement and it had the same issue. Eventually sold the watch because of that because my OCD couldn't deal with it. But it seems the Swatch chronos with the unserviceable ETA movements don't have that issue.
I bought the mission to Saturn second hand off somebody and after 1 week I realized it was a fake lol. The thing I loved about the fake is that the stop watch hand sweeps rather than ticks which is cool. ofc I got scammed damn it.
It looks like a great watch, its at a price that you can wear every day, which I wouldn't do with an original. Put a NATO strap on and it would look great May wait until my birthday in July, it may be available on line by then
And I’ll say again like I said on Facebook…. I think some people are missing the whole point about these Omgea x swatch watch, these watches are about being a novelty watch, I don’t like the term that some of these watch collectors are calling these a “TOY”, because they are not a toy. These are a “Affordable luxury novelty watches”. And yes these are fun to have and to wear every now and again. These are great watches I think , I own some nice watches as well, I have a different variety of watches which makes watch collecting fun as a hobby for me.
You like a plethora of reviewers of this watch put in your description "plastic" though to be fair to you you did then go on to describe the make up of the material. I own several Bio ceramic Swatches and also several full ceramic cased watches. The Bio ceramic feels very similar to my full ceramic watches and has the same lightness in weight and comfort in terms of matching body temperature very quickly. I do feel it feels nothing like my full plastic swatches and more like my ceramic watches. When they restock I will be getting one of these but will replace the strap as I loathe velcro and fabric straps. Technically the case material is actually far more interesting and more to do with the ethos of space development than the regular stainless steel. As far as lifetime. Well, I am 58 years old and bought my first Swatch in 1984, a year after they were launched so that´s 38 years ago, 20 years short of my lifetime so far. That watch still works perfectly to this day and has just needed two new straps in the 38 years I have had it so I am guessing it will last my lifetime however long that may be. Just as there is the continual nonsense spouted about Quartz watches not lasting so it is for plastic. I have a Girard Perregaux quartz watch made in 1974 which has plastic components in the movement which still function perfectly to this day and shows no sign of wear on those plastic components. As with mechanical, the greatest enemy to this or any other watch is water ingress. With mechanical you can add shock and with quartz battery leakage though with modern batteries that is far less of a problem than it used to be if you buy good quality batteries and the good thing with swatch, at least here in Europe is that when the battery dies you pop into the official Swatch store and they replace it with a Swiss made Renata for free!
So the last few days I’ve seen advertisements for all of the variants now available at a discounted $149 US. They were garbage… And now the pricing is starting to reflect what is essentially a throwaway piece of plastic.
They restocked three stores in New York City with 200 watches each and there were no lines when they opened. By the time I got there there was a line of about 40 to 50 people
Cheap gimmick that'll make Swatch a lot of money. Smart move from Swatch Group. Supposedly the wrist staining on certain colors will be addressed. If/when it gets released online, I'll pick one up, but I won't be going out of my way to get one. Saw it on eBay for over ten grand, in the first few days. Insane.
The Saturn 🪐 is the only one that interests me. Just gonna wait until they're available on the Swatch website. Terms more appropriate than "cheap": Budget. Low cost. Economical. Thrifty. Entry level.
This is a perfect marketing move that made people queue up to pay $260 for a plastic disposable watch. For same money you can buy similar style watch that is nicely made, stainless, saphire crystal. You could give it off to your children :) Just look at Festina ceramic, Roamer modern classic or Delbana retro moonphase.
Clever design emulating the Speedmaster, but it's still a only a Swatch and the quality demonstrates this - very lightweight, a rather suspect quartz movement and the naff Velcro strap will lose its printing in no time, so I agree change the strap out for a NATO perhaps? As you have already discovered the Swatch-quality 'crystal' will scratch like crazy. Fun watch at RETAIL for those just getting into watches or collectors but not one for me.
Why would it be a suspect quartz? It's an ETA quartz movement. Swatch has been using it for a long time in other models, plus ETA makes some pretty good quartz movements. I don't see why an ETA quartz would be inferior to other main-line mfrs. like Seiko, Casio or Ronda. If anyone makes some cheap, dodgy quartz movements it's Seiko.
@@andywilliams4887 No argument on the hand alignment but I've seen the same from Citizen, Seiko and Casio at this price point (even at higher points). My Certinas do it too and they were 2-3x more (those are Precidrive high-accuracy quartz). The only ones that don't in my experience so it are the purely motor-driven sweep hands like in Citizen multi-function/RC controlled chronographs, for example the E650 or H800 movements. The second hand is directly driven off a small motor. What I've noticed with these quartz sweep hands that "wobble" is they've got slack in the sweep second hand gear train. I've noticed in the parked "0" position, if I tap the side of the case with the case end pointing up/down the second hand will flop a bit towards the ground. Flip the watch the other direction and the second hand flops in the other direction towards the ground slightly. This isn't an ETA thing apparently.
I have an original version of this watch that I actually obtained in 1969 and it has the original inscription too. I cant help thinking that this new offering comes across as a bit of a gimmick. Also I do believe that a manned Saturn mission is not planned for the foreseeable future! However each to his or her own and this version is certainly more affordable for many.😉
I mean... It is a gimmick and people from all sides (those that like it and those that hate it) should treat it as such. Nothing wrong with that though. It seems like quite a fun watch but retail price is the absolute maximum I'd pay for that. For now I'll just wait until they are readily available and see then if I'm going to buy one.
@@Lobstersarefabulouz Yeah I agree, it is riding on the back of trend and original prestige of the real thing. The price will fall once the hype has settled. If the price comes down then it may be a reasonably good buy for many. 😉
I can't understand why would anyone would pay $7K+ for a Swatch MoonSwatch... A month ago, I paid $6,400 (+tax) for a real Omega Speedmaster Professional Moon Watch calibre 3861 with the hesalite crystal and closed SS caseback with an amazing case .... needless to say this is just an incredible watch, and the thought of paying a flipper the same or more for a MoonSwatch is just insane to me. On that note, no hate to flippers, they are only trying to make as much as they can. The ones to blame for this market hype and outrageous resale prices are the people buying them...without these folks these watches, and so many other items, would not be selling for ridiculous high prices. I intend to buy a MoonSwatch when available at msrp, as I believe they are fun, and I like to collect space / NASA stuff in general.

A good watch if you are in to collecting watches. But after a couple of months of wearing you will not no it is a swatch/ omega watch. 😂There will be no lettering on the strap / the strap will look tatty and dirty. The case dial lettering with start to fade and probably have scratches/ and marks on the dial. Try selling it on e bay after that. You get nothing. Let alone retail. Probably best just to have it in a watch case and enjoy that way. Or buy 2 of your favourite model. Wear one destroy it. Keep the other for display. This is more like a throw away watch. A bit like a Apple Watch. I tried to get my Apple battery replaced at an Apple store. But they don’t do that. You basically have to buy a new one of the same model with a small discount. You might as well buy the latest model for the sake of a small saving. Another throw away watch, that cost more. There is one thing for certain you will never see a plastic Daytona swatch watch😂. I mean this may be good for swatch but honestly feel that omega probably had no Choice in this as they are part of the same company but it certainly makes the Brand look cheaper. I doubt this did not help sales for the real moon watch the following day. If I can get one of these watches just out of curiosity I will get one.

Not to be picky but Pluto is official back to being a planet and not a satellite
Great content
I’m afraid you cannot replace the scratch strap with a stainless steel model because the lug s are more larger on an Omega. Please correct that 👍
To be fair. I wouldn't replace it with a stainless steel strap. That would look weird. A Leather strap matching the color or a Nato strap seems to be a better fit for me
I'm thinking of buying a couple for my boys for when they are 18...stick them up in the loft....but will they even work in 15 years?
Better off buying something metal
@@jakstrike1 yea u are right....I think I will buy them a proper seamaster or speedmaster when they are 18
That misaligned lineup is a usual problem with these serviceable ETA movements. I had a Tissot MotoGP with the same movement and it had the same issue. Eventually sold the watch because of that because my OCD couldn't deal with it. But it seems the Swatch chronos with the unserviceable ETA movements don't have that issue.
You can realign the Chrono Hand by pulling the crown and using the pushers
I bought the mission to Saturn second hand off somebody and after 1 week I realized it was a fake lol.
The thing I loved about the fake is that the stop watch hand sweeps rather than ticks which is cool.
ofc I got scammed damn it.
Hey! Did you pay over retail?
what store I caught the restock at the time square store waited 4 hours
It looks like a great watch, its at a price that you can wear every day, which I wouldn't do with an original.
Put a NATO strap on and it would look great
May wait until my birthday in July, it may be available on line by then
And I’ll say again like I said on Facebook….
I've worn velcro before and I liked how it fit perfect every time
Can I ask what’s the diameter of the watch face (exclude bezel)?
I have a 15 year old swatch they last a lifetime and that’s not only me look up swatches a lot of people have owned them for more than 10 years.
Great summary. Thanks!
The Saturn version always reminds me of the 60's cartoon series " The Jetsons " !!!.
Isn’t the case and dial what is taupe about the watch? The rest is brown like you said.
what is the brand of the space craft watch?
RJ watches
You can get a very decent Seiko or Citizen watch for that kind of money, which won't try this hard to be something that it's not.
A question guys, is this good watch to buy and sell it later for higher price after time ?
I really hope they gonna make stainless steel model or atleast stainless steel back so it's doesnt feel like a toy and have some weight in it.
12:04 bank robbers are people too? I'm Rob Burgundy?
Why is the right dial a 10 hour one?
If they make an irony version of those watches i believe they can attract more people
You can reallign the chronograph hand, Chris. Random Rob has made a video about it
I have same what is the real price someone left in my cab
Will it fall apart in 1 or 2 years?
i noticed your sweater that says NASA. nice pairing.
Great review, thanks.
damn it. I wanted to get a Saturn, but once I saw kind of emoji face the Saturn makes... I can't unsee it
What place did you go to
Did anyone notice that there is fiber on the tip of the counting second hand?
quality doesn't look good but for the price not a surprise.
A bit critical on the packaging eh! Seiko does far less for a lot more money.
Possibly the only one i'd go after, this "face" is SO funny. But then again i ain't gonna get nuts to get one any time soon.
So the last few days I’ve seen advertisements for all of the variants now available at a discounted $149 US. They were garbage… And now the pricing is starting to reflect what is essentially a throwaway piece of plastic.
You waited only 45 minutes? Was this on release day?
No, this was this Wednesday, yesterday
They restocked three stores in New York City with 200 watches each and there were no lines when they opened. By the time I got there there was a line of about 40 to 50 people
@@WatchChris so basically, I went to the Grand Central boutique on the wrong day.
I don't think Polywash will remove scratches on this acrylic crystal. Another TH-camr tried, to no avail.
Insane.
Hmmm. Pretty pricey for a low grade quartz with hands that don't hit the markers accurately. Not convinced, sorry.
The Saturn 🪐 is the only one that interests me. Just gonna wait until they're available on the Swatch website.
Terms more appropriate than "cheap":
Budget. Low cost. Economical. Thrifty. Entry level.
I think the Uranus is beautiful.
@@Josh-hr5mc my anus is in fact beautiful

Wait. Why does the watch look green
NASA? Do your research. Good to see people line up to buy a watch no matter what watch, better than a mobile phone for sure
Can it last a lifetime if well taken care off? And if not why not?
This is a perfect marketing move that made people queue up to pay $260 for a plastic disposable watch. For same money you can buy similar style watch that is nicely made, stainless, saphire crystal. You could give it off to your children :) Just look at Festina ceramic, Roamer modern classic or Delbana retro moonphase.
This is a fun watch that is why lol. I'm sure your kids will forgive you for not investing in a $200 30 year old watch
Taupe is just like brown But different !!
@@thomasmathes5019 I just was referring to how the hand alignment is pretty poor, but for the price I guess it's ok. Agree about Seiko
This isn't an ETA thing apparently.
this is screeaming HELP for mechanical watch industry !
They say taupe is very soothing. If you feel soothed, then it’s not brown. 😂
He's wrong . No omega speedmaster has a strap like that. Mine came on a bracelet but they also have a leather strap . Edit, a Nasa strap is available
No sorry you are wrong the Velcro strap for the Speedmaster is very similar looks wise not color or quality wise
@@WatchChris I see that you are right. They have a NASA velcro strap now that was not available when I bought my speedmaster years ago
This is more precise in time than the original itself. So is a Moonwatch more precise than the orginal.🙈🙉🙊
Maybe JerryRigEverything should do a durability test on this watch.
I intend to buy a MoonSwatch when available at msrp, as I believe they are fun, and I like to collect space / NASA stuff in general.
the swatch cost 200euro, not 7k
@@alainalain6454 The comment was directed at Chris' example of a MoonSwatch selling on eBay for over $7K.....which is insane given msrp in the US is $260.
@@felo6035 oky oky. my bad . yes total insane ... i just looked at ebay. there is a ton of MoonSwatch who was sold between 500 and 1800 dollars. just insane and stupid
@@alainalain6454 No worries my friend we are in agreement. Have a great day and enjoy the weekend 👍🙌
I got this watch for $380AUD .. sold it an hour later for $600 .. went back and bought the earth hahah… good little discount made
No-one should pay more than the manufacturer's suggested price for anything, period!
It's a novelty watch ergo keep the novelty strap
