Thank you for posting this information. I just had two dental assistants cement all the teeth in my upper mouth. I have already contacted the dental board. All the information online says that its almost impossible to sue a dentist and win. If the dental board can prove what they did to me maybe I will try to sue. I think we are turning into a third world country.

Kristi, do not wait for the dental board to take action before you decide what to do; keep in mind, the statute of limitations continues to run while the dental board reviews your complaint. Contact an attorney in your state to discuss the facts of your case and learn your options before its too late.

Thank you Scott for making this video. There is very little information offered regarding dental malpractice or how to contact the dental board and what are the exact issues they handle.
Thank you for speaking clearly and slowly. I hope more attorneys begin to use media to let dental malpractice victims know that there are attorneys who handle dental issues. Many people who have dental malpractice issues do not even know they can make reports to a board or speak with an attorney. Please attorneys if you are reading this.....put your name out there. This area of health has more cases than one may think. I read how a punctured sinus or infection from a root canal is rare. It's not as rare as they think! It's just rarely being pursued bc victims have nowhere to turn. It's a major problem in my opinion.
Even primary care doctors particularly young ones are not prepared to deal with the problem of endodontic mistakes or infections. Patients often will not get the proper referrals without major delays, suffering and complaints. The nightmare becomes the sick patients to figure out how to navigate the broken health care system. Which is separate from dental care. They should be one bc your mouth is the key to your overall health.
People can become extremely sick and never be the same all bc failure to admit mistakes, apologize, and make appropriate referrals and plan of care in a timely manner and follow-up with patients until the very end. If they will not do that then they should not do risky procedures. And many dentists do not do them. But many greedy dentist do. Often without experience and often on Medicare and Medicaid patients. Individuals they feel who would not know where to turn to if the dentist did screw up.
I am 100% against root canals. I also believe the laws should make sure the patient has full disclosure on every instance of every risk involved before they allow any dentist to perform these treatments in people's heads.
It was also nice you gave individuals your phone number and email. Too bad you are in Ohio. I need an attorney who can practice in MA.

Thank you for the comment. Unfortunately, I do not have any contacts in MA that I can refer you to. However, I suggest reaching out to the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys (MATA) 781-425-5054. MATA likely knows what members handle dental malpractice claims. Their member directory can be found here: www.massacademy.com/?pg=MATALawyerSearch

I am having a problem with affordable dentures in Jackson TN.. They have made a horrible denture crooked denture and really thin spot in the front that I had complained to them that they could break in that area ,and said they would make a new denture but meanwhile they worked with me on the one I have , they got to the point of putting in a soft liner and I called back later for them to do the rest. But should have made a new denture at this point! Now when I call I am routed to existing patient.. They obviously want to talk only to new customers and do not answer the calls for the existing patients ..We have to leave a message. When I called for another appointment after getting that nasty tasting soft liner put in they now just ignore me. I have called three times and left messages for another appointment but now I no response at all from them! Also I want to note that this office insists on payment before doing any work at all!

Since I am only licensed in OH and PA, you should talk to a lawyer in TN to find out your rights. I recommend reaching out to the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Assoc. (615) 329-3000 as they will be able to direct you to a lawyer who handles dental claims in your state.

So who helps with billing and fee disputes? Example I'm there for an extraction and implant proceedings. Dentist isn't even able to extract the tooth. Has me call (while under anesthesia) a specialist who cannot see me for 3 weeks. They go ahead and charge me the full balance anyway. Even though I had to go elsewhere to find emergency extraction due to the pain after anesthesia has worth off.

Call your local bar association for a referral. Anyone who handles small claims can assist ... its a matter of seeing the details of the invoice and determining what services were performed vs. billed. Remember, the dentist's ability to bill for a service is not conditioned upon the outcome. In other words, you may still receive a bill for lidocaine, radiographs, and even time in the chair, even if you had to be referred to someone else.

Wow, that's interesting....you needed an extraction he could not do it but medicated you knowing this. Please explain. I have a major dental story. I think I would rather have your issue. But it's still nuts they put you under anesthesia. Sure you were not fondled? Why would they do that to you? Was there a different plan first? Or did you know it was extraction and they drugged you only to have you awake to, " oh, I just remembered I do not do extractions."
