I have only one complaint about this film. I wish it was longer. This is the kind of quality that has been missing from Star Trek from '09 to now. Star Trek lives in Fan Films. Never give up! Never surrender!
This was a labor of love for TOS, and I'm stoked to finally have it released thanks to the restoration and post crew led by John Atkin, and a new group of talented trekkies not unlike Stan and I were when we started this endeavor...what seems like a million years ago. A tremendous thanks to everyone involved then and now. And to those that still appreciate good old fashioned Star Trek. Your contributions and interest over the years are what drove the ship. -Da
Watching this for the first time and absolutely loving it! Phenomenal work! I really enjoyed the variety of scenes and great attention to details. Thank you so much for sharing this! 🙂
I kept thinking to myself, that actor looks an awfully alot like a young George Takei! Then halfway through, George spoke! Sulu!!!! I like the original footage intercut with updated graphics!
What a surprise to see the footage of young George Takai, and take in this beautiful Star Trek fan-made production. Thank you so much for never giving up on it, and for finally being able to share it with Star Trek fans everywhere.
Thank you all so much for all the hard work you and your staff for all the extra efforts done in saving and restoring this fine STAR TREK episode… It is by far one of the finest so called fan made ….As good as any of Paramount made origanal TOS episodes …. You all should be very proud of. This .. I am sure that once the Star Trek fans see this they will all enjoy it as much as I have……THANK YOU SO MUCH….
Honestly wish the year these fan creations were released was on the titles. But across the board for all fan creations sci fi and other. I watch some and try to place the year and can't sometimes. It looks great either way! I love fan created TOS and TAS shows. Wish the Paramounties would get a clue!
Was that some sort of digital trickery, how does George Takei look like he hasn't aged a day in 30 years? Comments section to the rescue, he looks 30 years younger because the scenes were shot 30+ years ago. That's fantastic, I actually feel privileged to have seen this.
Took me a moment to realize what film I'm actually watching and to remember that this is no ordinary fan film. What a piece of legend! It's great it has finally been finished!
What a great production! Loved the story and the special effects. How cool was it to see First Officer Sulu. I also loved seeing the Klingon battle ship in action. Hard to believe that I get to enjoy a show in 2023 that I first experienced in the 60’s! Amazing! Congratulations cast and crew. Please keep the voyages going!
1) Good opening, beginning "in the middle of things" with an event that gets the audience's attention quickly. 2) Good ending, with a scene that explains the episode's title, and demonstrates the compassion that I love so much in classic Star Trek. Live long and prosper.
I have followed and awaited this F O R E V E R! I know you wanted to get this out before the great James Shigeta passed away. We are all so lucky that you completed this treasure chest of acting and story telling, Now the long wait is over, this should be mandatory viewing for all Star Trek fan films as an example KEEPING YOUR EYE ON THE BALL, don't let up. Thank you all!!!
Unbelievable. Kicks New Trek dead in the ass! Don't even explain how you made Takei so young, I was just staring at him over and over....then I heard his voice, on site audio. Amazing. This IS Star Trek! Oh Shit...I just read the comments, it IS George Takei....old footage from an early failed project...Whoa, Jesus! You guys are Boss.
Now that's a Star Trek! I first became aware of this production back in the 80s in an old issue of "Starlog." I've been waiting 35 years to see it and it is worth the wait! There is more love, passion and action in these 22 minutes than in the entirety of season 4 of Discovery. Great job in every department. I would love a behind the scenes documentary or retrospective that tells the whole story of how it was produced and how George Takai and James Shigeta became involved. I love that this movie ends with a song like many films made in the 80s.
My complaments to writers, cast and crew. Editing is notable, as is art production. The use of 16mm style image texture, and high contrast exposure was inspired, and gave the entire production a compelling noir feel. It counteracted the use of flat period stage lighting, which jars against the underlying modern editing techniques. This whole thing is very refreshing.
This is the first I ever heard about this fantastic project and having been in awe by the sheer talent and time that it has took to finish this project. I just finished reading the amazing six part blog on FanFilmFactor regarding the history and I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to witness the complete film. Hats off to everyone involved. As a big fan of the TOS era, this film is canon to me!
Outstanding work. It was done like a spinoff show of the TOS, 2 years after the Enterprise completed it 5 year mission. I loved the blend of the TOS uniforms and the 1st movie. Congratulations.
I think that this was a very nice episode, done well and and well written. I also think it is because of people like you that CBS/Paramount owes all of the fan bassed Star Trek Films and their creators a debt of thanks for keeping the dream alive.
I had always heard of this unfinished fan film and I'm glad you were finally able to get it done. This has a great fun feel to it and is a great addition to the TOS universe and aa others have said the older grainy footage actually helps give the movie a very realistic TOS feel. Well done and dang do I wish we could see more but thank you for this.
Wow! That was really amazing!! What a labor of love. Like a fantastic time capsule across the years. And to think that fans knew about it and brought it back to finish it. I absolutely adore this. ❤❤🖖🖖
Is it just me, or do George Takei's final words really echo what he said to Boimler in Lower Decks? I really love how grounded Sulu is as a character, and how much he can be a refuge to characters who need healing.
So glad this popped up; I wasn't aware of it. What a treat! Then reading comments to find out it dates very far back? Wow! (And I see at least one fan audio person's name from a great podcast audio drama.) Right away, the story quality shows. That this took years to get done, with things pieced together, is fine. I'm just glad for the love and care put into this as a fine Star Trek story, something we very much need still. (And people should check out some of the great fan audio Trek out there, as well as other fan films. There are many fine stories out there, with a lot of heart put into them.) Live long and prosper. Keep on Trekkin'.
Thanks for the kind words. Every one of us involved in the production mirror your sentiments. Lots of great fan films out there waiting to be discovered and more to be made...
Sincere congratulations! Thank you to all of you amazing fan film makers - past and present - who pulled together to bring this full circle to finally be enjoyed. I've followed this for a while and am a bit mind blown to finally enjoy it. I'm dying to hear how our Uncle George Takei feels knowing fans finally got to see this?

The sound design work from Ralph Miller and CGI from Sam Cockings is just out of this world. Pleased to hear some “Habervoice” in there too. Anxious to read or hear comment from George. Congratulations to all of you on a fine effort - and may the souls your departed friends Rest In Peace.

Wonderful compliment. Some great TOS fan films out there though. In particular one of my favorites and true to form TOS era, Starship Exeter: The Tressaurian Intersection.
No choice! It was filmed in the mid to late 80s with film that produced actual grain. Newer scenes shot in the past 12 years had grain added to them in order to maintain continuity since it's easier to add grain than to remove it.

IMDb gave you a rating of 9.2. Good job! I was blown away when Sulu and Mr.Takagi ... I mean... James Shigeta... appeared.
@@brunozeigerts6379 mirror universe Takagi it is...;)
Oddly enough, the older / grainier actor centric footage gave this a very 1980's TV feel. Like an episode I had missed as a kid.
Thanks for noticing and the kind words. That was our intent from day 1 and the impetus for making this
I had the same thought.
Indeed
Indeed it is from that era or at least a good portion of it. One of the giveaways was seeing how relatively young Takei still was in his role.
I think this is a fan film from the 70s/80s that was updated with modern VFXs. I wonder if they even had ship visuals in the original.
I kept thinking to myself, that actor looks an awfully alot like a young George Takei! Then halfway through, George spoke! Sulu!!!!

Many thanks for uploading and sharing the movie. It was great.
Great work! Jeff Miller, you did a great job, Captain! 🙌🏼👏🏼🎬🍿

Agree completely with your statement.
I am gobsmacked!......astonishing.
James Shigeta also portrayed Admiral Chuichi Nagumo in the 1976 version of Midway
Well done. Very enjoyable video. I do hope you will produce more.
Awesome - I love George Takei ! Great job all.
