    I am a canadian and long time fan of your shows but I've always had a question I wanted to ask you. Here in ontario we have the massasuga rattle snake native in small enclosed environments throughout ontario I think theres mainly 3, but as a child I once stumbled across a massa rattle snake hundreds of kms away from its nearest "pocket of inhabitants " I was just wondering if you've ever come across anything similar throughout your career. Big fan I'd love to hear back it would make my week

    Never load a kevlar canoe unless its in the water and always wear a lifejacket. Pretty simple stuff.

    One - Been thinking about getting a canoe; Any experience with the durability of a kevlar canoe as far as scraping over rocks and other submerged obstacles?

    • @TheLittleRedCanoe
      @TheLittleRedCanoe ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Obviously you needed an answer two years ago, but just in case: No, kevlar/ultralights are not intended to be scraped/dragged over rocks. You need a tougher composite, or a plastic (Royalex, Tuffstuff, IXP, T-Formex, etc.) to handle that. Best of luck!

    What size canoe are your tripping and why? I opted for a 17' skin under the assumption that will be able to handle it alone or with another person, there also wont ever be a trip that I havent got at least one dog. I was just curious with your experience what size you favour and why

    Never hurts to tie your gear to the canoe in case you tip, especialy alone.
    Safe journies 👍

      same goes for wearing some kind of floating vest. I can swim in the sea and can stay afloat for some time, but what if I hit my head or what if (etc etc.). Believe most people dying in rivers, lakes or the sea did not wear any floating vest, life jacket or such. Alone or not, far away or not, I always wear a floating jacked when canoeing. SOP. Been over more than once with no one else around and sure glad the vest was on.

    Am I the only one who was surprised by the Ford Explorer? For some reason, I expected Les to be driving a modified 5th Gen 4Runner off-road beast.

    My main take away from this video is, you appeared to sit on the floor of the canoe. To lower your center of gravity I assume??

    This is a master instructor? This guy fails boy scout canoeing 101. First, No PFD!!!. Second, no spare paddle. Third, no bow or stern lines. Fourth, no water attached to the boat . Fifth, no broad brim hat or cover. Sixth, gear not attached to the boat. So what you've got is a guy who's displaying a lot of basic safety violations in his loading procedure. Risk of drowning if the canoe capsized, no safety lines, risk of dehydration, risk of sun or heat injuries for lack of a proper cover, risk of having unsecured gear sink or float away if the canoe capsized. Also note that a dewatering device, something as simple as a pail, wasn't loaded aboard.
