Ahh Deadspace the first two are still my favorite modern horror games. I'm glad you're still making videos man, I've been watching you since you first started-proud of you keep up the great work!
Engage is very similar to fates and awakening, which I think is a good thing. I’m really enjoying engage thus far. If I wanted to be super nitlicky then I could, however I’m just trying to relax and enjoy the experience before I decide where it falls on my FE tier list. I think it has top 3 potential for me. In several ways I do like it more than 3 Houses thus far.
@@cd4playa1245 ahh no wonder I don’t like engage nearly as much as 3Hs and path of radiance lol I really hated fates and was lukewarm on awakening. Good comparisons
Its actually a miracle Johnny that your old video gameplay footage looked as good as it did. I mean its not comepletely awful. You've always had a really badass camera to capture all your memories. I wish I did that!
Thank you I've been sitting here deciding if I should get fire emblem or not Watching this gave me the decision to get it So far I've been replaying persona 3 portable and persona 4 golden on ps5 having a good time playing
I am playing Fire Emblem Engage also and I've never played a FE game before or really a Strategy RPG before but when I saw the character designs and that there would be past characters featured in the game I knew this was the game for me. I'm only like 3 chapters in because I just got the game but I'm loving it. It's such a beautiful game and I'm learning so much about how to play this kind of game.
Some of the best ones were only on old handheld systems. If you’re quick, you can download some on the old wii u platform store before they close it permanently in March. Buying any older physical copies is really expensive. And the more recent ones were nowhere near as good as the GBA and game cube era titles. Let’s hope they do remasters or downloads on switch in due time.
Im playing fire emblem engage and absolutely love it!! 50 hrs of playing right now. Also got dead space remake on series x but havent played yet bc of FE.
Nice to see more youtuber appreciate and love FE Engage. The game's overall amazing, it's not 3H but it's a visual treat and the gameplay just simply blows me away.
I am replaying Fire Emblem Three houses (my first FE game btw). I did not enjoy my first play thru - could not recruit people. But my 2nd and now 3rd playthru really enjoying the game. This is one of the few games I enjoyed more on subsequent playthru's. I got Engage lined up already to play next.
I just got into Etrian Odyssey. It's usually not the type of RPG I like, but I'm really enjoying it. I usually only play games and hour a day before growing bored. I've been playing EO4 every spare second. Probably 50hrs the past week
Hard/classic is so well balanced in engage where I’m meticulously spending so long trying to break the game with thoughtful unit building and don’t feel like a jerk for doing it. Btw - sitting here, playing through crisis core side missions and sick with covid while watching a new video is such a nostalgic sort of mood. Glad you’re loving engage dude. Jade is best girl
Hifi Rush is a great argument against hype trains, literally just spotted the game on steam while browsing around and bought it on a whim. This game is a nice surprise, the kind I haven't felt since the the days long gone browsing around for games with cool looking covers at the rental shop.
I´m totally in love with fire emblem engage, I´m in chapter 22 and I´m over 80 hours in, I´m already thinking about my 2nd playtrough because I had a hard time to choose who to throw out of my team and I want to use only new Units on my 2nd run
I just completed Fire Emblem the other night! What a great surprise for me, I’ve played all the other entries in the series, but like you said, I was expecting it to be more of a spin off game with the past characters coming back. Boy was I surprised at how good the gameplay was and the engaging with emblems added another level of strategy that was so enjoyable!
Just finished HiFi RUSH and it was a blast. I love to see unique games being made by bigger studios. It seems Xbox is embracing more of these projects (like Pentiment and Grounded for example)
Giving Octopath Traveler another chance...my expectations were way too high when it released so i dropped it fast. now im just taking my time and actually having fun with it.
What I leaned about Engage is that I can just grind away and I love it. I think I’m in chapter 13 with 50 hours in and most of my characters are almost maxed. :p
I’m loving FE Engage. It’s my 4th FE game and favorite of the series. Almost finished my first playthrough on Hard/Classic. Looking forward to doing it again on Maddening.
Hi Fi Rush is definitely a goty for me. The original dead space I agree still rocks. The reaction to Kim coming in was spot on! Keep up the amazing content Johnny.
I payed full price for the dead space remake and I don't feel ripped off at all. Playing this game in the dark with headphones in the sci fi nightmare I've dreamed of! Great vid Johnny!
Hi-Fi Rush LITERALLY rocks! It’s such a refreshing throwback to unique, creative, and hyper-fun single-player experiences from the PS2 era that don’t need a huge open world or 100 hours of gameplay like most modern games.
Thanks to my New Year’s resolution of not growing my backlog I’ve already beaten 3 games which is a lot for me so early in the year. Hollow Knight, Deaths Door and Sifu. I beat God of War Ragnarok in December too. About to get heavily into Fire Emblem Engage now.
As a fellow FE series fan, who has Telius right on top of the list I must say Engage is so damn good. The combat is great and the smooth animations make it so enjoyable. The character customization for combat is at another level. I thought this game will be a disapointement and now my only hope is everyone plays it cause its good.
Yeah I would say the delivery of the story is pretty garbage but the themes/concepts they explore are interesting. Just delivered very poorly. But the exploration, combat, and post game content kept me engaged throughout so I didn't care that the story was bad. As always, combat is king. A good story is just a bonus.
I recently revisited Ghost Recon Breakpoint and now it's my new favorite game. A rare example of game developers listening to the fans and changing the game for the better!
I'm about to try and finish the Trails in the Sky trilogy. I just finished Sky SC a couple days ago, and just started Sky 3rd. I haven't really played much from this year, but I did play a little bit of Hi-Fi Rush. I'll get more into it soon, but it's quite enjoyable.
It was nice to hear you take your time explaining these games in this video. I don’t think you usually fill 5 minutes per game when you cover multiple games at a time, but I’m sure many of us would enjoy something like this more often.
Johnny, discovered your channel during the pandemic. As a fellow longtime gamer, you bring me joy every week. You inspire me to try new games and old games I missed. Thank you!!
Out of the 24 games I've played this year, my top 3 are in no order or anything, Fire Emblem: Engage (Switch), Pokémon Snap (N64), Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts (SNES). Those are the 3 games that had me glued to the controller & TV. I felt the same way in that Engage was more like a classic Fire Emblem game than Three Houses and highly appreciated that. Super excited for gaming in 2023!
I'm on chapter 18 right now, love the game, I think I prefer Three Houses because of it's Persona-esque gameplay and atmosphere but Engage is still a pretty good game.
I’m so happy that Xbox are finally embracing more “Japanese animation” style games such as Hi-Fi Rush. The ultra photogenic genre of games are ok but we’re not all “Bro” gamers.
Yeah, and these games are so much more timeless. In 15 years the photo realistic games will look crappy but the artistic animation will still look good
I'm still playing a lot of Monster Hunter Rise with my partner, and have returned to Fire Emblem Three Houses after a long hiatus because I'm playing alongside with someone who has never played it before. But also I've been catching up on my backlog of visual novels, which is ever growing because so far there were 6-7 announced for this year alone that I'm looking forward to checking out when they start releasing.
I tried replaying Dead Space before the Remake came out and my PS3 wouldn't wanna load up my game after a crash on Chapter 2 Intensive Care. So I waited to experience the Remake with a blind perspective and didn't remember a lot of things from the second half haha. It added to suspense and mystery of the story. Im on Chapter 11 of the game and it has been kicking my butt lol.
I started Hi-Fi Rush. It's fun so far, but I decided to start on hard mode because I used to be pretty good at rhythm games and I'm struggling on the first boss. I might have to turn the difficulty down to medium. It's more tricky than I thought it would be to balance keeping the rhythm while attacking, dodging, and moving around. I was fine for regular enemies, but the first boss keeps beating me and I'm not sure if I want to turn the difficulty down or persevere until I win. I had a good time with my first time playing it and I'll probably continue later tonight. I've also been playing Fire Emblem Engage. I'm enjoying it quite a bit so far, about to start chapter 16. There are some small things I don't like, but in general it's very enjoyable and scratches my Fire Emblem itch. There's something about these games that I struggle to find elsewhere. I want to play some of the older titles, starting with the 3DS titles. I have played bits of previous games before Three Houses, but didn't get super far in them for one reason or another.
I am a recent watcher of the channel. I had subbed the channel for quite some time since I had heard about HCG and Johnny M., but hadn’t watched much until recently. I will echo what many already say about you and the channel - your content is awesome. The content is very approachable-while I love video games, I haven’t played many over the years. Your enthusiasm is infectious and not over the top sounding like an infomercial. You come across the screen as a genuine person and not a character or a social media persona. For me, I think it was your story of growing up with a father who managed the largest bookstore in Canada (or what it the world) and having the run of the place that grabbed me. I am a little older than you but our childhoods seem to overlap, and I remember browsing bookstores and the book and magazine section in groceries. Thanks for sharing your experiences and views. Sorry I’m late to the party :)
You don't know how much it warms my heart to hear someone else speak highly of Event Horizon! One of my favorite movies! I'll be grabbing the remake of Dead Space ASAP!
I'm also playing FE Engage. I'm a bit earlier in the game (strating Chapter 6), thanks to too much work, plus I'm waiting the guide I ordered. In the meantime, I 'm replaying YS VIII. I'm near the end.
Hi fi rush has quickly climbed the ranks into one of my favorite games of all time. The art, the characters, the music, the combat, it all flows into an amazing experience
Really needed this video today man, thank you so much for always bringing such positivity into your videos. I've also been loving Fire Emblem Engage, I'm on Chapter 17, and I'm also surprised how locked in I am with it. It's been a total blast, and I agree it's a nice breath of fresh air from Three Houses. Going back to the roots of focused gameplay with an enjoyable and fun story that isn't trying to be anything more than that. I really like the character designs as well. The protagonist has really grown on me, and the game just looks gorgeous. I'm normally the type to turn off animations after a certain point in FE games so I can get through battles faster, but in this game I can't help but keep them on because of how beautifully animated they are. Anyway, really love it! Thanks again for another great video, man!
I didn't realize till now that Warsong was known as a different title in Japan. I remember playing Warsong on the Sega Genesis and loving it. I'll be picking up the new Fire Emblem game soon.
John, Fantastic content as always. I have been a subscriber for the majority of the life of the channel. Love your positive attitude and love the stories. My favorite episodes are when you talk about your past days of gaming. Brings massive waves of nostalgia to me as I am around the same age. Love the channel. Keep up the amazing work!! I am from way down here in Georgia, USA. - JD
Lately I've been playing Hi fi rush and Ys Oath in felghana and I'm having a blast with both of them! I love the stat and exp bonus system on oath btw, it drives players to keep beating enemies non stop, I'm surprised I haven't seen it in other games that released after this one...
We haven't even scratched the surface on everything confirmed to release for this year, or even the stuff that is rumored to be announced this year as well. 2023 is going to be one of the best years for gaming.
Glad someone said they enjoy engage more than 3 houses. The reviews were so divided i had to buy and try for myself. Combat is way better but i like how the bonds/support convos are there to enjoy if you want them or cooking and other activities but not a key part. The pacing and flow so far has been great loving it.
I LOVE the Fire Emblem series, and am back in that mode too, but it's cuz I recently got my 3DS back, and I'm playing Fates. Unfortunately with the DS shop closing, I couldn't download the 3rd Chapter, which kinda sucks, but even with the Two I have, maaaaan is there a lot of Meat on Them Strategy Bones. Always love your content man, keep it Nerdy!
I spent $200 from a scalper at release of the game to get the special edition with all three games on one cart. I do not regret paying more than double the price of the game to get all three routes. It was only supposed to be $80 but was sold out immediately. Be well buddy.
Should be able to download it still, store doesn't close til march. You have to buy the dlc in game though. This channel does a good job on how to go about th-cam.com/video/oNJT6SXWs5k/w-d-xo.html Look in the comments for the time stamp of the game
Never played Dead Space, but I definitely want to check out the remake! Trying to clear through a few more games before I pick up FE Engage, but I am nearing the end of Soul Hackers 2 then I want to finish the DLC of Three Houses before I hop into Engage! Hope you have a great week of gaming ahead of you!
Thanks for the recommendations - the footage and, especially, your commentary is exactly what I wanted for all three of these! Jet Grind Radio is all I had to hear regarding Hi-Fi Rush, as that was one of my absolutely favorite Dreamcast games. From the footage here, I definitely got those vibes. For Fire Emblem Engage, I may have to try this. I liked Three Houses, but I'm a (painfully) slow player, so the between-battle hub stuff became a bit much for me - my issue, not the game's. I'm thinking I'll like this one even more.
Thank You for the wholesome content. Everytime you post I come running. Makes me happy. Currently MH Rise, spending way too many hours in that game. Going to be playing Dead Space, Callisto and Midnight Suns next
love everything about FE Engage. Currently on level 20 as well. My main 12 party members are all advanced class level 15 or higher except for Anna who is about 5 levels behind. High priest Anna with Byleth and elfire +5 with holy engraving will get you all the money you will ever need.
The PS5 did have an issue with the picture, Digital Foundry mentioned it in their video. A patch came out like Thursday or Friday so it should be fixed. I don’t think it had anything to do with the film grain toggle.
I saw the trailer and wanted to buy this game so bad, saw the thumbnails of reviews online trashing it and was worried. I watched your review knowing your taste is usually similar with RPGs anime etc. decided to buy the game, have been playing every day since! Best game purchase I’ve made in a while
I was the same as you Johnny, i never cared about FPS, i've changed too. Recently i wanted to play Bloodborne again and i just couldn't, not with 20-30fps.
Every time Johnny shows some older footage of himself from years ago, I always think: Damn, he looks so much healthier now.

Engage was a reminder of why I got into the Fire Emblem games at the start, and that was having addictive turn-base gameplay that offered intricate map designs, varied map objectives, going between mission chapters and the Somniel feels more streamlined than the Monestary, giving the feeling that the game respects your time, multiple boss fights, and fun characters.
Once again because of John I will try a new game!! Love his enthusiasm and passion for video games. Thx you!!❤
Really needed this video today man, thank you so much for always bringing such positivity into your videos.
I'll be picking up the new Fire Emblem game soon.
didn't play much of dead space on 360 but I'm really loving the remake on the series x! hi fi rush definitely was a surprise great game so far.
The Hi-Fi Rush game definitely looks good though any news if there will be a physical copy?
John, Fantastic content as always. I have been a subscriber for the majority of the life of the channel. Love your positive attitude and love the stories. My favorite episodes are when you talk about your past days of gaming. Brings massive waves of nostalgia to me as I am around the same age. Love the channel. Keep up the amazing work!! I am from way down here in Georgia, USA.

Lately I've been playing Hi fi rush and Ys Oath in felghana and I'm having a blast with both of them!
I love the stat and exp bonus system on oath btw, it drives players to keep beating enemies non stop, I'm surprised I haven't seen it in other games that released after this one...
Hi fi is new, but these may be two of my favourite games. That’s definitely my fave Ys.
@@LWAllen I totally get why, playing this after ark of napishtim is such an upgrade in every aspect
We haven't even scratched the surface on everything confirmed to release for this year, or even the stuff that is rumored to be announced this year as well. 2023 is going to be one of the best years for gaming.
15 years? Man time Flys, next thing you know the switch will be 6 years old.
Glad someone said they enjoy engage more than 3 houses. The reviews were so divided i had to buy and try for myself. Combat is way better but i like how the bonds/support convos are there to enjoy if you want them or cooking and other activities but not a key part. The pacing and flow so far has been great loving it.
I'm about 50hrs into Xenoblade 3 and loving it
Very few games have been able to hold my interests lately. I'm glad I found Hi-Fi Rush. That's a lot of fun, a good pick up and play adventure game.
I love your videos. Your love for videogames is so contagious.
This channel does a good job on how to go about th-cam.com/video/oNJT6SXWs5k/w-d-xo.html
Look in the comments for the time stamp of the game
It's a great beginning for the year. I have this feeling that this will be a great year for gaming.
Thank You for the wholesome content. Everytime you post I come running. Makes me happy.
Currently MH Rise, spending way too many hours in that game. Going to be playing Dead Space, Callisto and Midnight Suns next
Fire Emblem Engage is SO much better than Three Houses.
I've been playing Hi-Fi Rush and loving it!
love everything about FE Engage. Currently on level 20 as well. My main 12 party members are all advanced class level 15 or higher except for Anna who is about 5 levels behind. High priest Anna with Byleth and elfire +5 with holy engraving will get you all the money you will ever need.
I've had a pretty good year so far. Kena: Bridge of Spirits, FIST: Forged in Shadow Torch, Solar Ash, Stray, Neon White... good times.
Best game purchase I’ve made in a while
Love this channel ❤
Thank you Johnny 🙏🏻 hard to get out of my head this morning and seeing this video uploaded is a small blessing 💪
I was the same as you Johnny, i never cared about FPS, i've changed too. Recently i wanted to play Bloodborne again and i just couldn't, not with 20-30fps.
