In my current season of life, I can't play much video games but I can't say it enough, I l absolutely love this channel and Johnny's nostalgia trips. Living vicariously through his stories and experiences is a fun way to pass time in the background of my busy life. Thanks Johnny for your enthusiasm and positivity and being authentic to yourself and your audience.
Octopath 2 is REALLY good. I couldn't get into the first one for some reason but I bought the second also for some reason lol but I'm glad I did. I'm gonna go back to play OP1 once I finish and give it another shot since I'm really into the 2nd right now. BTW the music is INCREDIBLE!! I've heard the 1st is even better.
@@craigemery856 in the same boat as you, didn't like the first game, put it down before I got all the 8 travelers. But Octopath 2 is fantastic, probably my favorite game this year so far. Pre-ordered the OST because it is so great.
That Days Gone story is so cool, Johnny! What an awesome reminder in-person of the joy you bring to others! I hope I get to meet you in person one day and thank you personally too. Have a great rest of your weekend!
Been following for the last 4-5 years, absolutely love the content, if I'm having a bad day it always cheers me up going back and watching a few of your old videos, love the anecdote and memory videos particularly ❤️
I liked the story of you playing with your dad. My oldest son just turned 3 and I've been introducing him to video games and letting him play with my Switch. He's really been enjoying it and asks for it often and I love seeing him enjoy something so much. It makes me happy to think that he might have those happy memories to look back on when he's older too.
At first, I almost stopped the video when seeing another D&D book, but that story of you and your friend reuniting for a game put the biggest smile on my face. I need to reach out to my old crew!
I'm still making my way through Metroid Prime Remastered and I'm loving every second of it! Nintendo has done such a phenomenal job with the remaster, and I'm taking my sweet time scanning everything and immersing myself within its world!
Of all things, I rebought a 3DO! I sold my childhood system years ago and have always regretted it. Yes, it's not the best console, but very nostalgic for me.
15:59 its crazy how back in the days we could watch an entire movie at home with no distractions, i remember borrowing anime from the library and watching it in one sitting
Love the story about Mario Kart with your dad, my mom was always enthusiastic about my love for games but never really played them herself either. Except when I’d gotten Mario Kart Double Dash, I told her we could ride in the same Kart together and she was in. She’s passed now, I cherish those days and it’s funny and kind of crazy how similar our stories Mario Kart stories are.
Speaking of shooters, I just got Ray'z Arcade Chronology and it's awesome. Arcade ports of all three of the Ray games by Taito plus HD versions of Raystorm and Ray Crisis. So epic.
I only really buy games digitally now, but I’m a sucker for good sales! The past 6 weeks I’ve picked up 11 games for a total of $35.30 Switch: • Ori and The Blind Forest • Ori and The Will of the Wisps • Beautiful Desolation • What Lies In The Multiverse • Aspire: Ina’s Tale PS5: • Shadow Warrior • We Happy Few • Batman Arkham Collection (Asylum, City, and Knight) • Dragon Age: Inquisition GOTY Edition
It's been a busy month for gaming. Octopath Traveller 2, Metroid Prime Remastered, Fire Emblem Engage, with Trails from Azure on the way. And we're only in March!
i finally got bravely default2 at a local tech store. i never wanted to give it a chance but 20 bucks.... yeah. took me 3 days to go back there and get it. and now i am hooked. i didn't think this would happen. lol really only got it because i have the first 2 on 3ds
Just grabbed new Fire Emblem, super fun so far but I`ve been tied up with Astral Chain recently. Always love you videos, man. It`s always a good way for me to smile.
I recently picked up Metroid Prime. I haven’t played it in over 20 years. I beat the original once and never played it again and I absolutely loved it. I’m someone who doesn’t usually replay games. Everyone these days talks about “second playthroughs” and stuff, and to each their own, but that’s not me. I have a long backlog of games, I really don’t have the patience to beat a game and then start it right up all over again. However, with Metroid Prime it has been so long, I forgot a lot about it initially and the new graphics I was so excited to dive back in. And man, it was as great as I remember. Stepping out into the Tallon Overworld with that music just took me back. And slowly it all started to come back. Nostalgia overload. Gonna be hard to top for game of the year for sure.
Wings of Honneamise is a really amazing film and one of the great early works of studio GAINAX. Both Yoshiyuki Sadamoto and Hideaki Anno were involved and the soundtrack by Ryuichi Sakamoto is also outstanding. I think I will never forget the space sequence.
thank you for phantasy star, thank you for y's, thank you for sharing your life. I have a cleft pallet, I live in BC. I feel a connection to my childhood and my best friends/memories watching your videos... I hope it doesnt become a burden, keep it up! Your community loves you bro :D Rob too :P
I recently emailed you about records, thanks for your answer ! Since then, I bought a few OST records (costlyyyyyy) and by far my favorite purchase is Ys VIII OST, what a game and mostly, what a great soundtrack
I watched a HCG episode maybe 7 or 8 years ago when Johnny was talking about Royal Space Force. I went out and bought the DVD after the recommendation and loved it!! It's been a while, so I think I'm due for a rewatch for sure.
Oh man, you talking about VHS swapping brought back a lot of memories. Back when we were so hungry for anime we took whatever we could get. I'm such an old head haha
I got Metroid Prime Remastered a couple days ago, it was sold out EVERYWHERE like Johnny said. I drove 2 hours to a GameStop way out in the boonies to get it 😂 also - I ordered it online and when I brought it home it had a CLEAR sticker sealing the case, it had no wrapping 🤦🏻♂️ and I bought it NEW. That pissed me off. Especially if I planned on collecting the game rather than playing it. Okay I’m done venting lmao.
Doom 3 The Lost Missions Started it last night on Switch and it's amazing and I love how it's pretty much the same levels from the main campaign but from a different point of view. I only played the main campaign years ago on PS3 via BFG Edition though recently got Doom 3 so figured why not. Feels short but the scares at every corner is worth it.
I got my beloved Metroid prime remaster physical, also grabbed Tales of Symphonia remastered and Kirby's return to Dreamland deluxe, what a great time for gaming especially with the Gameboy and GBA games on NSO I bet Johnny is happy about that.
Metroid prime is a masterpiece. I will pick up octopath 2 once I clear up some of my backlog. I picked up bravely default on a sale a while back and I need to finish it
Wings of Honneamise used to play on Teletoon back in the day but I was pretty young at the time and barely remember it. Will definitely rewatch. Thanks!
Johnny I personally love when you talk about anime! As someone who grew up on the Toonami era I completely missed the 80s and early 90s so I always keep your recommendations in mind. As always keep up the great work!
I'm a huge shooter fan, I love to pick up new physical releases when possible. I'd love to know what some of your favourite games are! Some of mine are Lords of Thunder on the PC Engine, Musha + Thunder Force IV (Lightening Force) on Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and Nex Machina on PS4.
Welp, you got me, I bought Wings of Honneamise. Too bad the delivery guy left it unattended in the mail room when we have repeatedly asked them not do that (we have parcel pending) and now I don't have it. It was stolen. Sooo pissed.
Great seeing you, Johnny. Just downloaded Days Gone to my PS5. Also, for those of you interested. Royal Space Force is available on Apple TV for 3.99USD to rent.
I’ve been craving a golf game as I miss just blasting through an old school Toger Woods game so picked up PGA 2K23 for £15 and am really enjoying it. Set everything to easy for a more enjoyable ‘arcadey’ feel and just yeah, it’s scratching that itch.
I agree with the Phantasy Star 2 and 3 commentary. Loved 2 on the GBA, never could get into 3. Next week I plan on buy Fire Emblem Engage and Dragon Quest Treasures. Also need a new SD card to clear some space 😆
I'm absolutely loving Octopath 2. You can tell the devs really listened to criticisms of the first game (which I also loved) and made some really nice upgrades. I never thought the first soundtrack could be topped, but it's definitely getting close. I highly recommend this game to any RPG fan out there.
Man, I miss guides and Nintendo Power. I know it's all nostalgia, but still. I smiled so much seeing that DKC Guide. I remember seeing that in stores, and Nintendo Power. Everyone was excited for that game. It looked like no other game out at the time for me.
That D&D splash in the last minute blew my mind!! Totally unexpected man! 🤯🤯🤯 It's so cool to see that D&D remais the link of our friendships for decades! I'm also still playing with my old friends and it's an unique experience! 🤘🏾
Big shooter fan here👋🏻 Got a big shooting collection for MD, SNES, Saturn, PS1, PS2, PS4, Switch, Dreamcast and the Xbox360. It's just condensed and pure fun to play this games. I always smile when i hear the söldnerx2 or ikaruga soundtracks in your videos 😁 keep up the good work 👌🏻
I am not a vinyl person, but to my understanding the biggest attractions of the format are 1) it has extremely high sound fidelity compared to streaming or even CD; and 2) it doesn't really degrade over time. You have to try pretty hard to damage a vinyl record enough that it doesn't work. Also, as Johnny said, these modern vinyl releases are made as collector's items, and they tend to be gorgeous art pieces in their own right.
Wings of Honneamise was amazing the first time I saw it on Teletoon during an Xmas break while I was at university. Over a few weeks they had Macross Plus, Wings of Honneamise, and Patlabor running. Vividly remember sitting in the living room glued to the TV, having my family come in mocking me for watching "cartoons". Made them sit down and watch with me, by the end they were asking for recommendations :D
I've recently got Phantasy Star 2, 3, and 4 vinyl soundtracks all at the same time as well. I also got the Donkey Kong Country 1 & 2 remix vinyl Soundtracks. Also, Breath of Fire 1 vinyl soundtrack. As far as games I recently purchased the Kingdom Heard All in One bundle, Final Fantasy Theatrhythm, and the Kirby remake.
I watched Royal Space Force after this video. Interesting movie for sure. I wasn't initially blown away, although it was beautiful. But I am finding myself thinking about the nuances of the story days later. Thanks for the recommendation Johnny.
Recently picked up: Pathfinder: Kingmaker PS4 Wasteland 2- PS4 Wasteland 3- PS4 Metroid Prime Remastered- Switch Darius International Collection- PS4 The Breakers Collection- PS5 I've been playing Diablo II Resurrected and realized how much I love playing CRPGs on my PS5 so I started buying those. I should be getting Cannon Dancer on PS5 this week. I thought I had missed my chance to pick up the Darius Collection and was so happy when Strictly Limited had some in the warehouse and put them on sale
Really enjoy what Platinum Games did with Sol Cresta. Hopefully this help bring new fans to the Schmup/Arcade genre which I enjoyed through my childhood and still to this day.
Great video!! I recently purchased some sealed ps2 games…. Persona 4, monster hunter, yakuza 1 and yakuza 2. Didn’t own them and were affordable so I figured why not!
PSVR2 baby, RE8 and GT7 in there are absolutely amazing. There's some other games I've been enjoying as well but those two are mindblowing and keep calling me back.
Went to a few Gamestops a few weeks back. I hadn't been to one in like 8 years, and Holy crap, they looked like derelict shells of the ones I used to frequent back in the early and mid-2000s. Few games on the shelves, but plenty of over-priced shirts and toys.
I just wished there was a sequel for Days Gone it was such an amazing game rough at launch was the reason it will never get a sequel which is really sad
Picked up Metroid prime remastered and Zelda twilight princess for gamecube. Compared the og and remastered and remastered looks gorgeous. Twilight my wife is excited to play since she’s the Zelda fan
I'm about 77+ hours into Ocotopath 2 and have finished 5/8 character stories. I still have a bit to go, but it's been fantastic all the way through. My only real gripe is more towards the end game, but I don't want to risk spoiling anything. One of the best RPG's I've played in forever.
Just started playing Ys origin 2 days ago great game! First Ys game. Prime is an outstanding game the explanation is what set it apart from other games then and now.
Adore shooters! Gradius 3, 1943, Raiden, Do Don Pachi! I'll have to give that one a look man! That ZELDA GUIDE!! One of the first Strategy Guides I ever got! Still got mine, had to put it in a 3 ring and page protectors I read it so much I feel apart!
Recently grabbed a few Switch Games. Metroid Prime, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Wonder Boy Collection, Contra Collection, River City Girls Zero, Persona 5 Royal and some Blu rays:Shocker, Tourist Trap, Machete, and Machete Kills
Very nice! My question is how do acquire these soundtracks in vinyl format? Etc... very envious of the many things you have come across on your channel! Is Bayonetta Origins next? Thank you!
I'm a new shmups fan actually on the switch right now I'm attempting to play type 2 and I have no idea how to play but I love it! I will try the one you have on here because you seem very excited thank you.
A good third person mode added to switch between anytime would bring more people in that can’t play in first person but also it would make these games perfect or at least do it for prime 4!
My favorite genre is shooters it’s pretty cool to see the comeback they have made in the past 10 years. Even though you don’t cover them much I still love the channel your commentary is always great
I got Octopath Traveller 2 as well, got about 15 hours in, and love it just like I did the first one! Also picked up Democracy 4 on Steam too, always wanted a game that lets you control a country like that. :) fun stuffs!
LOVE Shoot 'em ups. I played Sol Cresta and had a good bit of fun with it. Got me interested in trying out Moon Cresta, Terra Cresta and Terra Cresta II. I got the Contra Anniversary Collection in the mail which is super cool. I had already beaten all the games, but now I finally have a physical copy of them.
I thought Dragon Quest Treasures gameplay loop was so addicting. As soon I as took the train back to HQ, I wanted to go back out and build the trove even more! Really fun stuff :D
Bro. As a longtime fan of your channel, I just want to say your dad would be really proud of you.
Wow thank you!

Octopath 2. I’m about 35 hours in and I’m loving it. The game is still gorgeous and I can’t get enough of that hd 2D style.
Octopath 2 is REALLY good. I couldn't get into the first one for some reason but I bought the second also for some reason lol but I'm glad I did. After beating the game around the 90 hour mark, this game is FANTASTIC. best game of the year so far. Holy cow.
Your enthusiasm for your pick ups always makes the videos good.
Fun Fact: The composer of Royal Space Force, Ryuichi Sakamoto, also created the startup sound for the Sega Dreamcast.
YMO is one of the best bands ever and Sakamoto is such an incredible composer. Never knew he did the Dreamcast startup!
He also did the music for some dreamcast games too
😲whaaa???
@@HappyConsoleGamer Right!? It's insane where this awesome talent shows up. Kudos for bringing such an incredible movie back into the spotlight!

I'm about 77+ hours into Ocotopath 2 and have finished 5/8 character stories. I still have a bit to go, but it's been fantastic all the way through. My only real gripe is more towards the end game, but I don't want to risk spoiling anything. One of the best RPG's I've played in forever.
I bought Legend of Dragoon, Wild Arms 2 and Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection from playstation store for ps4
I dont know or watch anyone more passionate about video games than u!! I love every one of your videos keep it up and thank you!!
I got a bunch of new games. I just recently got 2 rare Japanese switch games in the mail. Ar Nosurge and Ciel Nosurge DX

I like the way you,ve Robman proofed the table corners!!!.
Due to your gushing I couldn’t help but go to Right Stuf and purchase Royal Space Force. You gave me the push I needed.
I LOVED the days of strategy guides. Still active in Japan, not so much here in the USA.
I thought Dragon Quest Treasures gameplay loop was so addicting. As soon I as took the train back to HQ, I wanted to go back out and build the trove even more! Really fun stuff :D
