Praying for safety, comfort and peace from God for you all over in the USA during Hurricane Helene. Much love and with God's blessings, grace, strength, wisdom and mercy from our family to all of yours from Australia xx
I think for us the most important thing in looking for a church is do they believe the same as we do. Some things are minor but the basic doctrines the church teaches is very important. May God continue to bless you in your ministry.
I am a widow of almost a year. I've been a member of my church for 54 years. We have three pastors and I love them all. They take very good care of me. I know every person that attends our church. In looking for a church, doctrine would be the most important. Friendliness next. Not only friendly at church but anywhere. I also enjoy all the social functions...breakfast cookouts, ice cream socials, softball games etc. It's all important to me.
Thank you for your input on this video. I agree with the doctrine being vital. As a pastor I didn’t want someone to join without knowing what we believed, and I want to know what the church believes before I join. Thank you for watching our channel!
I love music. Fellowship was something I looked forward to but unfortunately wasn’t to be. I love watching both of you as I feel fulfilled and welcome. The bible study was wonderful. I don’t have the book but just listening fills my heart. Thank you ❤❤❤
As an older couple looking for a church home, we found that Sunday school was important to us. We love to worship, pray, sing and give to praise and honor our Lord, but Sunday school was also important. Having small groups, co-ed, age related classes to study the Bible was something we had to investigate. It took us quite a long time sort of jumping around taste testing each church before we finally found the congregation that fit us best. None are perfect. Perfection will come when Christ returns.
My pastor announced this past Sunday that he is retiring. Funny thing is, on my way to church, I had a feeling this was coming soon. I was hoping he'd stay until the end of April, when I'm moving to another state and will be in search of a new church family. But he's leaving the end of October. I understand! He's 74, and has a number of health issues - I've noticed changes over the last few months. In the few years he's been my pastor, he's helped me through my husband's failing health, and death (almost 2 years ago). He is widowed, too, so he understands better than most! I will truly miss him.
I was raised in the United Church. I know that In the USA, it is the Methodist Church. I believe that music is part of the service but at my church they never include those beautiful hymns from back in the day that I love. I've subscribed to PastorLife and to The Homespun Wife. I just love you two, what a wonderful couple.
Such a cute thumbnail! You two are awesome. You’re right - theology, kindness, teaching, and fellowship. Also, moderate to large size is best in most cases. Praying you find a new church home soon.
I have wondered this exact question myself if that time would come. One time my husband went into evangelism and was traveling. The children and I had to find a new church to attend after resigning our church. It was rough. But now we are 23 years past that time and started our own church. I so resonate with what you guys are saying.
I am a single mom of a special needs 3 yr old. It's been a very challenging 3 years where wven going to the garbage dumpster was a challeng. I don't have a church currently but my eye is on one. Now that my boy is making great progress I am praying to go attend in the very near future. Things I look for during research: What is the doctrine/theology/ beliefs of the church? Is there childcare for toddler age? What is the setting and experience of the care providers? Experience /accommodation for special needs children Then lastly it will be how is the community? How am I treated? How do I feel when with the group? I am praying that when I attend Things go well. My son has never been in the care of anyone, it's been 100% him and I since day one. But it's time for this momma to have fellowship. My heart and sole is craving it. Thank you for speaking on this topic. I feel led to call the church tomorrow and ask about the childcare aspect of it. Then next step will be attending. ❤😇
Thank you so much for your positive comments and your support for our channel! You have great insight on what questions to ask to find a church home. I pray that our Lord leads you to your new home very soon!
My church closed in March for financial reasons. I had been to my daughter's church services. I also served in Celebrate Recovery there for about ten years as I battled depression. Somehow it didn't seem like a good fit. A friend invited me to her church in our denomination. I've been there about six months. I was trained for an area of service there that should start soon. Hopefully this is my church home.
I first went online to see if their doctrine matched what I believe. I watched some sermons to hear the message. Style of worship was very important. I didn't want rock music, smoke and light shows, or for it to be really loud. I looked for a diverse congregation in age and people. Were the people genuine or in cliques. Of course, was the preaching biblical. The size of the church wasn't important. It did take some time and I felt discouraged and overwhelmed at times. I did find my church and am so glad to be there. I pray the Lord will direct your steps, and the search won't be a long one. Kim
Hi there! I'm single 57yr old gal who left the mormon church 11 yrs ago. I have been wondering in the SLC, UT wilderness for all those years. Who knew there were soo many false gospels out there! There were a couple that were solid on the bible but they had no bible studies or small groups held in the evening. People have jobs folks, just sayin' I offered to start one but met with resistance as I was relatively unknown, and I understand that. Most were where the pastor was soo arrogant I couldn't hear the message through his attitude. You also don't need to slam the mormons to preach the word. Until I started listening to your channel I was sincerely wondering if arrogance was a pre-requisite for being a pastor. God bless you both for your wonderful examples ❤ 🙏 I will be praying for you to find a happy church home. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching our video. Our faith is indeed a journey that takes us in the expected as well as the unexpected places. The goal is to listen to the Spirit of God as we study the Word of God. One will never contradict the other! Have a great day!
I think these days you really can’t judge by denomination but by what is being preached behind the pulpit. Being in the same boat as you too. I love when I visit my daughter in Colorado and we church hop. It helps me keep in touch with what it’s like to go into a church where nobody knows you. I also pick up some good ideas and stay current. Also, being a pastors family we always have ready made friends and everyone knows us. 💙💜💚
Thank you for your insight on this subject. As a pastor for over 42 years I never had the chance to experience what other churches were doing. It would be exciting to go to places where nobody knew you. I do love learning new tools and techniques to worship. Thank you for watching our channel!
We have been looking for a new church home for 5 years. One of the problems I have is that I am very introverted. At the last church, one of the members kept dragging us around and introducing us to people which was very embarrassing for me. Then, they asked us to do communion. I was honored, but I don't like being in front of people. I struggle to find a place in church because churches are so social. I can't sing a note. I am not good with kids. It's hard for some of us.
Thank you for your comments on the topic of finding a church home. I will be praying that you can find that special church fellowship. Thanks for watching our channel.
I've been a member of my church for 21 years. Bible based sermons that teach & inspire the congregation in their daily Christian walk is important to me. The music is an important part as well. I'm an 81 year old widow after losing my husband of 45 years. I grew up in the church, singing the old time hymns & choruses. My way is probably more old fashioned & dated, but I really miss singing from a hymnal. I understand that it's important for the church to appeal to all ages, so I've relaxed my viewpoint with regard to how people dress, etc. God doesn't look on the outward appearance, but on the heart, which is what matters. I try to remember not to be judgmental about others, but accept them just as they are. A friendly congregation that makes new comers feel welcome is important, too. Also, I am drawn to a smaller to medium sized church as opposed to a large, mega-church. I've never been a pastor's wife, but I want you both to know how meaningful your PastorLife channel is to me. I'm sure it must be a blessing & prove invaluable for those involved in the ministry. Thank you for sharing your experiences & knowledge. Prayers for you as you search out a new church home.🥰
Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom on this topic! I have had to learn to adapt without compromising my convictions on Scripture. It is not easy but I was always honest with people when they shared their thoughts on music and traditions. I was called to preach at 17 and was considered a youngster. Now I’m the old guy! Thank you for your prayers on finding our next church home.
Thank you for watching our channel! Some retired pastors will stay in their last church but I don’t think it is a good idea. I would not want to be a potential problem for the new pastor.
When my husband and I felt led to seek a church home, I wanted a small church and wasn’t tied to the Methodist denomination that I grew up in. In our first visit to this small Baptist church that we were interested in, the people were friendly, the music was a blend, and the pastor’s sermon style was so down to earth and Biblically sound. We never even considered attending any other church and ended up joining a year later. The first 2 ladies who welcomed us were named Wilma and Betty. In my mind I thought of the Flintstones and I never forgot their names! We know everyone who attends there now and enjoy serving in various capacities. I have a question for you: do you necessarily want folks at a prospective church to know you are a pastor when you initially “check them out”? I always enjoy your videos and appreciate your candor! 😄 ❤-Brenda
Thank you for watching our channel and for sharing your insightful experiences looking for a church home! To answer your question, I don’t mind if a church knows us if we visit, but I wouldn’t tell them I was a retired pastor!
I’m enjoying this channel and love watching your interaction with each other and how tuned in to each other you seem to be🩷 and the kindness and thoughtfulness you display outwards🩷 My prayers are with you two on your journey of finding a new church home🙏🏻🩷🙏🏻 Some things that I think is important when in search of a church is the welcoming greeting of the church when you’re a first time visitor. To me that speaks to me a lot to feel that “welcome” and happy to have you worship with us. Though I don’t necessarily care for the pushy but well meaning brothers and sisters as I am kind of bashful in public settings…lol…but I’m tolerant in situations like that as I feel they are well meaning I think but that would probably make me apprehensive as I don’t like to feel pressured or a limelight on me. But most importantly the doctrine is what matters most to me.🩷 The singing is also a plus and it’s lovely when lead by good song leaders but honestly I love hearing people singing from the heart to their Father and if they can’t hold a tune I just treasure that more for their spirit to rejoice wholeheartedly in our Lord and letting their “light” and love shine and not hiding it or holding back because they can’t hold a tune. 😊 The other two things I look at is the programs they offer to the different groups of the congregation…the elderly, the middle aged groups, youth groups, married couples, singles, and even individual ladies groups and men groups. And then lastly their community “presence“ and serving that community. I’d like to request prayers for me as I am trying to find a church home too. Right now I watch my church family I grew up in their online service and I attend there when I’m back home visiting. I’m praying for a church family similar to what I grew up in. Hopeful I can find that soon. 🙏🏻🩷🙏🏻 Blessings and sisterly love to all.🩷
Thank you for your positive comments as well as your insight on what is important in finding a local church! We also want to thank you for your prayers as we start this new season.
A church where the Word of God is preached and taught, where people are friendly. What a neat idea, A Family of One group. As a widow i think its a great idea and i am going to pray about it for my church! Thank you for the video. I felt such warmth and caring from both of you. ❤
Thank you for your kind comments! The family of one was started in my church by a lady who taught a SS class with a number of single ladies. I loved it when my members came up with great ideas to show the love of Christ. Thanks for watching our channel!
I will be praying you both are led by the Spirit of God to the church that has a need in their body of believers for a godly couple like you two. God already knows where you will be heading and has planned for it. 😊
Thank you both so much for this video! It’s very important to go to a Bible believing church! I watched a couple of your sermons on TH-cam I liked them very much. You have a beautiful family, I liked how everyone was wearing white shoes including the grandkids! Have a Blessed day!
Thank you for your kind words and watching our channel! The sermon where my kids and grandkids came up on stage wearing the white shoes was my last sermon as pastor of our church. Please keep us in your prayers as we begin this new season.
I love your wee videos 📹 😍 full of wisdom, and your experience is so interesting. Well, this is like a wee "online Church" in a kind of way! A Church that is nearby and easy to get to is a good idea. A warm welcome & a sense of belonging, worship and the presence of the Holy Spirit... Yes kindness and friendly (but not pushy or over friendly). Not loud worship. 🙏 🕊
Thank you for sharing your kind and insightful words! We are excited to start the search and somewhat nervous about this new season in our lives. Thanks for watching our channel!
One more thing. I’ve heard others pastors say too that it’s not a great idea ,after retirement to remain in your church. Good advice. We had one local pastor in our area actually asked my husband if he could attend our church. He didn’t want to step on my husband’s toes. I thought that was so lovely 💚💜💙
Thank you for sharing your insight on this topic. As much as I love my church, my time is over and to stay would be a potential challenge to the next pastor. You have received some great counsel from other pastors. Thanks for supporting our channel!
A very important topic! I am in a small church, an Alliance. They really focus on supporting missions and such. We have our moments where we can rub eachother wrong, but it's really like a family. We love eachother. Sure enjoy your videos.
Thank you for this video. You two are so fun and interesting. I don't know if my comment went through. Growing up mom always found a good church for us. When I moved out on my own my manager and his wife invited me to their church and I loved it. When I moved farther I tried churches of my coworkers but none was a good fit. Then when getting my hair cut I mentioned to the gal cutting my hair I was looking for A church and in the chair next to me was a pastor of a church in that community. I visited his church and loved it. I've been there 23 years. I will be praying God leads you to the church He wants you to attend. Love you. Have a restful night. 🙂❤️
Thank you so much for sharing your insight into finding a church home. Also, thank you for watching our channel and praying for us as we start this new season in our lives.
Thank you so much for your encouraging words! Sherry and I wanted the opportunity to share our experiences and this channel seemed to be the best way. Thanks for watching!
My husband and I used to be in the ministry and I feel the tug on my heart. I wish we could talk to you both in person as it’s a lot to type out lol. I will definitely keep you both in my prayers and I’m truly enjoying both of your channels ❤
Thank you so much for your encouraging words and for supporting both our channels. Church work is rewarding but also challenging to the pastor’s family. I am grateful for God’s grace that He provides for all of us! Thank you also for your prayers as Sherry and I begin this new season.
I could write a book on this. lol My husband and I are leaving our last church, because when the pastor stepped down and then several years later passed away the powers that be left him on the website as staff, left his wife on the website as staff, left the former worship leader on the website as staff after he retired. They send out happy birthday messages on the website to with pictures to people who haven't attended that church in decades, I'm not exaggerating. It's amazing!! For years they didn't put the new pastors picture on the website. Bottom line they do not want to let go of "their" church. So sad! Control on steroids'.
Website maintenance is a big job! I have to do it for the church I go to. Paid web designers & maintenance can be paid a lot of money, thousands, because it's a lot. But, yes, ought to update the team. ❤
Thank you so much for your comments on searching for a new church home and for watching our channel! The website is a great resource if you have someone over it, either paid or volunteer. We felt our website was important enough to have a paid staff update it on a daily basis.
Thank you both for this video!! I like hearing both of your opinions and perspectives. It’s funny… today I was thinking of asking if you have done a video like this because I have been searching for a church myself and it’s not an easy task. I’m sure I will be led to the right fit for my needs as I have been praying on it but it helps knowing I’m not the only one who is searching. I’m very open to all ideas as long as they are inline with God’s Word but I do have a few preferences. I want to know that the church is teaching from the Bible and that it’s true.. not fake. I want to know the leaders are good people with good morals and who are genuine with love for the congregation. I want to know the congregation is friendly and not judgmental. I do wonder about how to dress. I think it’s important that if someone is coming to church to hear God’s Word preached, they are not made to feel inadequate in anyway. Jesus was good at making his followers feel comfortable in his presence. I would love to find a smaller church(probably because I’m an introvert and also because it’s what I’m used to)with a home and family feel to it. I’d like to be able to be of service in church in someway. I have always wanted to be in some form of service at church. I’d like it to be closer to home as I’m not interested in long drives for church any longer. Sherry I am like you in that I like the older childhood hymns but also enjoy contemporary. I do not wish the church I choose to be more entertainment than hearing The Word and good Christian fellowship. Thank you both for all you do!!🙏🏻
Thank you for your words of encouragement and for watching our channel! It is an interesting season to look for a church home. I pray that we all find that special place the Lord has for us to be blessed and to be a blessing to others!
I have wondered this exact question myself if that time would come. One time my husband went into evangelism and was traveling. The children and I had to find a new church to attend after resigning our church. It was rough. But now we are 23 years past that time and started our own church. I so resonate with what you guys are saying. We live in Georgia. What state are you guys in?
So funny, 6.66 haha. Praying for you now, that you will be lead soon to a place where you can grow spiritually and share your talents with God centered folks.
I look for a church that is strong on going through the Bible verse by verse - expositional preaching. My church has a 90 minute service. Forty-five minutes is devoted to expositional preaching. I love that! The rest is music (largely contemporary music - but I love when they insert the old hymns which I grew up on) and announcements. My church is a non denominational church.
Great video! I have been going to a very solid grounded chirch. I really love how the pastor preaches is a big church but, the people are not friendly there 😞 any advice?
Thanks for the positive comments! The challenge of being positive is always a challenge, even in churches. All we can do is be optimistic ourselves and hopefully it will change the people we are around. Thanks for watching our channel!
As disabled before retiring I don't have access to church. Hoping that changes soon. Would like a church that talks to me. I like the one I have. Disability changes everything. My current pastor does a great job. I'm not left out because I can't go. I'm included and that's important
Thank you for watching our channel and giving great insight to a serving church. I pray that very soon you will be able to get to your church! I’m thankful you have a kind and biblical pastor.
Thank you for your insightful comments on how to make people feel welcome at church. I know I would feel more comfortable sitting with someone I know who would introduce my family to the members. Thanks for watching our channel!
Have you ever listened to sermons on Sermon Audio? That way you would get to hear a sermon from a a pastor you might be considered. We’d love to have you here in upstate NY!! Check out Ballston Lake Baptist church on sermon audio.
Yes, Sermon Audio is a great resource for pastors and laypeople. Thank you for your kind words and for your prayers as Sherry and I begin this new season!
Hello you two lovely people. Thanks for all these statistics about churches. We've been members with our Church for almost 3 years and they made us felt so welcome like it's our home and family..hugging and greeting us. I just wanted to know how did you handled people that are regular visitors? Can they partake and help with the different ministries like kids or worship team. Do they have to a member of the church? Hope to hear soon from you guys.. Take care and God bless. Greetings from South Africa.
Thank you so much for watching our channel and for your kind words! We did not have a firm policy for people who hadn’t yet joined but wanted to use their spiritual gifts. Anyone who works with minors has to have a background check to make sure our children are safe. You could sing in worship but couldn’t serve on any committees. I’m grateful your church has been welcoming to your family!
@@VinceHefner-p9x Hello Vince thanks for your comment and insights. This help a lot.. It's a pleasure watching and following you both...Sherry has helped me a lot on her channel also..Take care and God bless.
Most of the recipes I use I get off the internet! If I bake sugar cookies I look at different recipes to see what they have in common and what might be different. Thanks so much for watching our channel and keep watching because you never know when I show off my baking skills!😂
Thank you so much for watching our channel and for your question. The main reason I will not stay at our church is for the new pastor. If I stayed the church might still look to me for guidance that should come from their new pastor, and I wouldn’t do anything to harm or discourage him. We are not moving, we bought our own home 10 years ago and love it very much.
Oh my, I'm praying for you. I had a tooth pulled & developed lockjaw. This has been a month I'm telling you. So, I'm praying for you and please pray for me 🙏💖
Look for a church that preaches the gospel, and that teaches the Bible. Look for a church that does not use music from Bethel, Hillsong, or Elevation which all teach heresy. So many churches are no longer teaching the Bible...............listen carefully for the subtle deceptions of the enemy. I've been attending my current church for 3 years now after moving here 3 years ago. I researched online before moving (and Covid) and chose this church. Unfortunately I will probably be leaving because I have developed a couple of neurological issues that cause me to be sensitive to very loud music and the church will not control their volume, and will not reduce it by 5 dB. I experience physical pain in my head along with vibration.........very difficult and I feel assaulted in the service with the volume..........trying ear muff mufflers and ear plugs. Very sad.
Thank you for your comments and for watching our video! I’m sorry you are experiencing health issues and I pray that you find a solution to the volume issue at your church.
Praying for safety, comfort and peace from God for you all over in the USA during Hurricane Helene. Much love and with God's blessings, grace, strength, wisdom and mercy from our family to all of yours from Australia xx

Praying for you as you search for your next church home. May God direct you as He blesses you in your endeavor. ❤🙏🏻🙌
Thank you for your prayers as we begin this new season in our lives and thanks for watching our channel!
Thanks for sharing I wondered where retired pastor went to church.
❤-Brenda
Thank you for watching our channel and for sharing your insightful experiences looking for a church home! To answer your question, I don’t mind if a church knows us if we visit, but I wouldn’t tell them I was a retired pastor!
I’m enjoying this channel and love watching your interaction with each other and how tuned in to each other you seem to be🩷 and the kindness and thoughtfulness you display outwards🩷 My prayers are with you two on your journey of finding a new church home🙏🏻🩷🙏🏻
Some things that I think is important when in search of a church is the welcoming greeting of the church when you’re a first time visitor.
But most importantly the doctrine is what matters most to me.🩷
The singing is also a plus and it’s lovely when lead by good song leaders but honestly I love hearing people singing from the heart to their Father and if they can’t hold a tune I just treasure that more for their spirit to rejoice wholeheartedly in our Lord and letting their “light” and love shine and not hiding it or holding back because they can’t hold a tune. 😊
The other two things I look at is the programs they offer to the different groups of the congregation…the elderly, the middle aged groups, youth groups, married couples, singles, and even individual ladies groups and men groups.
Blessings and sisterly love to all.🩷
Thank you for your positive comments as well as your insight on what is important in finding a local church!
@@VinceH-q8uI sure will be praying for both of you that the Lord will lead you to the right church!
What a very insightful episode of PastorLife. Thank you so much!
Love for you to come back to FBCC 🥰
Kathy, you are so kind! Thanks for sharing!
Praying for you and that God will guide you. We know where he guides he will provide. Very informative video. Thx.
Thank you for your encouraging words! Thank you for your prayers as Sherry and I begin this new season.
A New Testament church that’s a member of an association. I enjoyed this video.
Very good insight into a good local church! Thanks for sharing and watching our channel!
A very important topic!
I am in a small church, an Alliance. They really focus on supporting missions and such. We have our moments where we can rub eachother wrong, but it's really like a family. We love eachother.
Sure enjoy your videos.
Thank you for your comments on finding a church home and for watching our channel! I love a small church too!
Hello! Sooo very happy I subscribed to PASTOR LIFE! fantastic video! Prayers always coming your way! Much love & appreciation. ❤❤
Thank you for your encouragement to Sherry and me! We have really enjoyed sharing our experiences.
I just love you two! You guys are so fun to watch! I am praying for you 💜
Thank you for your kind words for Sherry and me. Thank you for your prayers as we begin this new season of our lives!
I love hearing you both sharing. You are a blessing.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching our channel! Also, that you for your prayers as we begin this new season.
I prayed for you both about finding a new church home.
Pray for me to find a church home myself. Thank you ❤
We will absolutely pray that you find your new church home! Thank you for your prayers and for following our channel.
I enjoyed the binoculars at the beginning of the video. How cute❤.@@VinceHefner-p9x
Thank you so much for your insight on finding a church! We are excited about this new season for us. Also, thanks for watching our channel!
@@VinceHefner-p9xthank you 🙏
As disabled before retiring I don't have access to church.
1...... friendliness, you meet a family first visit, they sit with you and stay and mingle after service.......... no one is left alone
Thank you for your insightful comments on how to make people feel welcome at church. I know I would feel more comfortable sitting with someone I know who would introduce my family to the members. Thanks for watching our channel!
What denomination do you hold closest to?
Off topic, but does your husband have a good sugar cookie recipe? the ones I use are awful. I know he's a great baker! Maybe he could make a video!!
Most of the recipes I use I get off the internet! If I bake sugar cookies I look at different recipes to see what they have in common and what might be different. Thanks so much for watching our channel and keep watching because you never know when I show off my baking skills!😂
sincere question, how come the church you pastored at, is not going to be your church home? Are you moving?
Thank you so much for watching our channel and for your question. The main reason I will not stay at our church is for the new pastor. If I stayed the church might still look to me for guidance that should come from their new pastor, and I wouldn’t do anything to harm or discourage him. We are not moving, we bought our own home 10 years ago and love it very much.
@@VinceH-q8uah! ok got it!! Thank you for answering. May the Lord make it abundantly clear as to which will be your new church
sorry i have been assent. july 17 i fell broke my left hips could use prayers s pleased

Oh my, I'm praying for you.
I had a tooth pulled & developed lockjaw. This has been a month I'm telling you. So, I'm praying for you and please pray for me 🙏💖
We will be praying for a speedy recovery! Thank you so much for watching our channel!
Father, thank you for being with Joanna - please heal her and help her in her struggles. IJN❤
It's very respectful right and proper not to go back to a Church you've pastored. The odd visit after a year is ok
Thank you for your kind words. Please keep us in your prayers as we begin a new season in our lives.
