Well sitting here about to break down because of changing the frozen quail water, I culled half everything today because of it. I work 10+ hrs a day away from home and have my birds outside and it's been a nightmare. So glad I found this video.
I was planning on doing this but keeping the water container above the cage system so I could swap out the pump when it got warmer so that I didn’t need to use it to save power. I also wanted to make the pump in line also.
This is really creative... what I do is use 5 gal buckets with cover, outside coated in rubber for insulation, drilled some nipples into it, same as these, and stick a 5 watt aquarium heater in it. holds up through Zone 5 at least. Enough water to last a month
was thinking of a system just like this for my birds this winter. will it work outside in exposed air do you know? also im zone 6a. what are your winters like because i have very very cold days and nights sometimes in single digits. NW NJ here
I've done a variation of this for my chickens. The one thing that I encountered is that the nipple will freeze. There is flow, but the tip freezes up here in NE ohio
Easy enough to restore with a small hair dryer. Supplement with removable Tupperware drinker during coldest nights, or ceramic heat bulbs over the drinkers

I have this set up right now but without the heater. Have you used it throughout winter? I’m worried it’ll freeze in the tubes.
does the pump have the heating element attached to it, or are they separate? where did you get them?
Should i dry hatch my duck eggs or should i wet hatch my duck eggs
Is that a materials list available?
