  • @jalamar8161
    @jalamar8161 8 ปีที่แล้ว +183

    That wasn't really a bad reaction. More of a neutral one. You could see he was processing and digesting. To put it in perspective, most fathers craft a future in their minds of who/what they want their sons to be. Slightly older generations never really even consider the possibilities of sexuality. That was definitely a reaction that leaves room for discourse and understanding.

      Jonta Hall I agree. As a mom, I have this vision of my daughter growing up.....will she get married, have kids? That would all come crashing down if she told me she was gay...that vision I've had for so many years would just blow up in my face. So it would take some time to rework that vision and come down from the shock of it all.

    Honestly, I didn't see anything to complain about in your dad. He is clearly shocked and taken aback. He seems unprepared for the gravity of your revelation and probably also uncomfortable that he is on camera to be seen by thousands of strangers in a private, intimate, family moment. I don't blame him. You kept smiling at him nervously trying to get him to react more, but he gave you the best he could in the moment. He looked a lot more uncomfortable than you tbh.

      The problem with your way of thinking is: why would a coming out be a grave situation? Why would your own dad be uncomfortable with other people would think just because they're watching it? Why can't you be a man AND talk about your feelings?
      This is what you should be asking, and not being sympathetic with this box mindset parent is thinking about.

    He just needs a minute. He seems to be far more shocked than anything. I'm sure after a few days and some heavy thinking he'll come around. I bet he just finds it awkward to talk about because he never expected it was an issue he'd need to think about, especially about someone so close to him (like a son).
    It's gotta be tough to have you Dad react like that but don't count him out yet.

    I think it's really fucked up to give people this news and video tape them. This should be a private moment between parent and child. Also, most parents are probably disappointed that their child is gay. They may not hate the child, but it's not their preference.

      Chloe, I'm here to stand up for the PARENTS, not YOU. You have enough support from the billion LGBTQ organizations out there. If you can't understand that this isn't cool, you're an idiot. Please LEAVE and report to your nearest LGBTQ center for all the support you'll ever need. Meanwhile, no one sticks up for the parents whose privacy is being violated by their own child. Now please LEAVE.

    • @chloezaffuto6167
      @chloezaffuto6167 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Nepthu The parents don't have to struggle with who they are everyday it's not the parents issue to worry about their kids sexuality. If someone wants to record their parents while telling them they have every right to. The parents don't need anyone to stick up for them this obviously shows how you're trying to hide the fact they you're homophobic and just want to hate on this kid because he's gay. Honestly I've never heard anyone worried because the parents were being filmed in a coming out video. This is a place for support and loving each other so obviously you don't belong here. Also you cant speak for anyone if you're not going through it yourself so shut the fuck up because you sound like an ignorant asshole.

    • @Timrath
      @Timrath 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You don't do charity work on the backs of others. Whether other people might benefit from the video is irrelevant when it comes to the father's right for privacy. You don't make a public spectacle out of your parents.

      "just leave."
      You don't get to tell people to leave. Who do you think you are?

      I am 'homo'. The point may be that it can appear disrespectful and unfair to the father, not that it is illegal. You are defining this choice to film this and post it as an entitlement. So I suppose it depends on the circumstances under which he got 'Dad's permission to post this and how one defines that noun. I know I would never even consider filming this in the first place. @@greenamogus

      They do it because so many out there are struggling with when/how to come out and what the reactions might be and just to see how others have done it. It gives those people strength and courage. Has nothing to do with views but to help others. Have you ever watched a cooking video or a video on how to make or fix something? Sure, it garners views; but it also helps others learn how to do something or makes them more confident doing it.

I tried to tell my mom last year, I knew it was going to be more difficult because she is very religious and doesn't like lgbt people. I mean, she doesn't mind having gay friends, but she doesn't want one in her family. When I told her she started to cry and told me that I didn't know what I was feeling, and at the end I said to her that she was right. But I know what I feel, and I'm gonna wait until I'm out of home and living an independent life, then I'll try to tell her again.

    Your dad was clearly shocked and was more put out by the video equip., than your coming out- at least from what you showed us. I think his reaction was ok - no threats, no religious crap, no "you're not longer my son, get out", so.. as he had just been told, on camera, it seemed ok, maybe not the hugs and love you hoped for, remember, parents in this situation are learning and digesting, info you have had months or years to come to terms with - they are getting it 'cold' and may need space to digest... no hate here, just happy for you, that you're safe, and your dad seems ok. As you say above he has 'got better' abt the fact you're gay - all good - stay safe. Just found your channel Oct 2017, catching up. Please keep channel active, would love to watch you grow as you find a new bf and see how your life develops -the good and not so good. Life has its bumps... x

      Well my first suggestion is not to make a youtube video of the scene and plaster it everywhere. It sort of turns this into your 'scene' to exploit as you see fit. No matter how you cut it, that marginalizes them as an actor for you, rather than a parent to you. Other than that, just pick your time carefully and summon some allies for support, if things go poorly, and control the circumstances as best you can.

I'm gay and wish that his response had been more accepting but everyone's response will be different. So long as he hasn't been abusive, I' call this a "win" for you.
