- Listen to the amazing tones from this vintage Gibson Les Paul Deluxe. I demo the sounds of this vintage guitar, go over the history behind my 1976 Les Paul Deluxe, the history of the deluxes in general as well as the story behind how I got mine!
Great playing. I've also got a '76 Deluxe, but what's very unusual about it is that it's got a solid slab body, not the pancake construction that was so common in Gibson models during the '70s. It's such a versatile guitar. Thanks for posting!

The deluxe has always been my favorite Les Paul.
I think it really stands out from the rest !
Mike Ness got me into the 70's Les Pauls. But he replaces the mini humbuckers with P90's. But damn, you make those mini's sound amazing! Thanks for the vid
Nice video and nice guitar there! I have a 1971 Les Paul Deluxe that was my uncles. Got it as a teenager and it was my first electric guitar! Like you, I didn't really fully understand and appreciate the mini-humbuckers until later. It's my absolute favorite guitar hands down. I suggest 3 things to get a vintage Les Paul in good playing condition -
1) Consider getting it refretted if the frets are worn down
2) Replace the bridge (mine warped) - I replaced it with a Faber ABR-1 bridge (mine has a regular tune-o-matic bridge)
3) This applies to any Les Paul but try top-wrapping the strings over the tailpiece - I love the playability it gives me on the guitar
Scott Gorham played so many wonderfully tasty solos during the era when he used his Deluxe ! I am wondering if this beautiful '76 has a maple neck ?

A unique tone for sure, and one that I have always loved. I have heard the Deluxe being described as " the Gibson for the Tele player".

Nice video and comparison playing with Standard LP.Recently bought the 70's Reissue Deluxe,and it is a keeper.The new Gibson is back,building quality gear that pays homage to these old models.

Played my 76 deluxe 25 yrs, bought in 91. It was a tank, my only guitar used in studio and on the road. Switched to strats and sold it, it served its purposed and I didnt play it anymore

Me, '75 Strat just bought. Him, CSB LP Deluxe he'd just gotten from his Dad.
I was all Yesterday and Today, LS, UFO and Trower. His hero was Steve Howe.
He loved this LP, later gigging and releasing a single.
Someone mentioned Thin Lizzy....yep, bought Fighting earlier,,,,Scott Gorham on a Deluxe.

I have a stock 1978 Deluxe. It's my Magic Guitar. Turn the tone knobs down and the volume up and you'll get warmth and lots of sustain.

Does your '78 have a maple neck ?
@@TheHumbuckerboy I'm pretty sure the neck is maple with ebony fretboard.
@@RichardPerrymanGuitarist That is interesting. I hadn't considered that the Deluxes ever had ebony for the fretboard; I thought that they would all have had rosewood boards.

First off you play very well, second you’re very fortunate to have obtained a fine guitar which sounds wonderful, I d played a 70s goldtop reissue that had mini humbuckers, yes I remember the sound being easy. Keep up the good work.

It's hard to believe that the deluxe was a norlin economy drive guitar.
They had a surplus of p90 bodies as the humbucker had now become more popular.they put the epiphone mini humbucker in and hey presto they built an amazing instrument.
This must be an early 76, mine has the traditional bridge on it vs your Harmonica one.

It's worth noting the Deluxe was a result of invention....Gibson routed bodies for P90 Gold Tops that didn't sell well.
Epi PU's might work.

Sometimes I think that 1976 reprsented the absolute "worst" in guitar construction amongst guitar manufacture. No different than cars , consumer apparel or household appilances. Fenders, Gibsons, Martins where made on the cheap!!! Hell, I remember buying Levi's and you had to make sure that inseam ran right down to your ankle and not to the forefront of your foot. Anyway, I can go on and on involving this. I bot in 72' a Gibson reissue LP. 54 ' model - sunburst , wrap tailpiece. 10 plus pounds of junk. Got lucky a year later when I bought a 60 Sunburst for 900.00 and I was to sell the 72 for what I paid for it. I presently own a a few Historics. Some good, others OK. But the construction and the woods are very good. Anyway, no longer own real Sunburst Les Pauls (had 2) . I did keep my Fander Strats (54 58 and 62)
