    I understand that this guitar is meant to be a replica of mike ness's specific guitar, so it has a bit of an exception, However I find it very interesting that guitar collectors Will pay a lot of extra money for a brand new guitar that has been artificially aged and worn, but yet when guitar collectors see a true vintage guitar with wear and tear from age they see it as players grade and undesirable and it becomes a lot less valuable, to me its just strange way of thinking,

    • @shawnawesome7770
      @shawnawesome7770 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think besides the price, the aging is a big no. Instead of aging them they should just sell mint condition with stickers ya know?

    • @Paul_Lenard_Ewing
      @Paul_Lenard_Ewing 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes a mint condition 50's Gibson is worth 10 time one with even a small scratch or two. Personally I think all this literally damaging a guitar is a fad. In a few years no one will pay a premium for used ones but less as they have no way of knowing whats real damage and what is fake. Add to that and you will soon see a glut of Asian guitars reliced which will kill any cool factor in having one.

    I wouldn’t get rid of the 79. They started in 1979 and that number is on quite a few of their releases and merch. Of course the #1 is the most desirable but number #79 is going to be the number two. One of their mottos is since 1979 and may even explain why that one was aged better.
    Edit-are you sure they all aren’t #79? As a lifelong social distortion fanboy that wouldn’t be weird for him to do.

      Social Distortion has some tastey tunes, and Mike Ness has some decent solo albums, I recall " Cheating at Solitaire"was good. Most bands dont get Better over time, if we are honest we support the aging hero's because we love them for what they did. Hi ya Trogly- so cool to see you Demo #79. The same morning you bought it I got that Sweetwater email with the 4 choices and 79 was there.
    I was contemplating #79 (graduated HS that year) and #86 cuz #86 had a nice very appealing goldtop look (possibly the most gold of the 4) and it was 8’13” so I liked that weight a bit more.
    I also thought if his is a 76 then you add a perfect 10 and it’s an 86. Needless to say when I refreshed the page #79 was gone (now I know where) so I quickly bought #86
    Loved your demo and I’m hoping mine is just as killer. I compared the aging and I think 86 has a killer relic job just like your 79
    As always thanks for the killer demo. It gives me confidence that the $9k was money well spent

    Presumably then, that's what the piece of tape on the neck pickup volume is for. If the pickups are the same height as on the original guitar, and the neck pickup has higher signal strength, because it's set at the same height as the bridge pickup (both pickups being the same output), then that would tend to suggest Mike knows to set the neck at 9 or whatever, to balance the outputs. Personally, I'd prefer to pack the underside of the bridge pickup with some veneers or washers or something just to raise it up a bit (if there's room). Then they'd balance better without needing to worry about the volume positions. The joys of Signature (Signature) guitars!

    That was a nice move clarifying you upload at so-and-so time each day - after the swipe at the Gibson mod crew for NOT being "timely'" with their ULs everyday. LOL. I particularly appreciated your comment "I've got better things to do than sit around and refresh their page". So true, and well put.

    My favorite Mike Ness quote is where he says he looks for old Les Paul Deluxes and takes those mini humbuckers out and throws them right in the trash and sticks some P90s in there. I would do the same thing. PAF style humbuckers are great. P90s are amazing but I'm not a fan of the minis.

    What is that triangle shaped aging job near the 17th fret? How does a guitar get that kind of wear? By picking? Or by the strap??

    Not too long ago I was watching a Social Distortion concert on TH-cam and halfway through the set Mike Ness switches to a Blue Sparkle finish Gibson Les Paul Deluxe and I'm watching this thinking "Cool" Trogly has one just like that...and what do you know! It was Trogly's guitar! Great review of the Mike Ness Signature Gibson and Congratulations to Mike Ness.

    I don’t share the love for these despite one being my main guitar for like 20 years. I didn’t know about guitars until later in life, but imho, the originals were terrible guitars. Or at least mine was. Made due, sold it years ago, don’t miss it.

      @@darrenp1549 If I some way some how got one of these Mike Ness guitars I would have to learn to play it. I’m a drummer so it would be a very big uphill climb for me. Maybe get a Used American Gibson Jr, to learn on until I would be worthy of making not terrible noise on a replica guitar that has made sim much good music

    Like a lot of people, I’ve made a bunch of these over the years with the Epiphone ‘56 models. So I’ve studied the original guitar a lot, and the Horsepower sticker just messes with me. MN has made many of these himself over the years with the Horsepower sticker, but on the real deal original one that he first got back on the White Light album, the cigar smoke clearly goes under the bridge.

    My 81 les Paul custom chery burst cam with a chain saw case. I liked it so much I threw it in the attic and bought a brown case Gibson USA case in 1990 when I bought it from east coast guitars used. To compare Pete Townsend to this punk convict looking guy is a crime buddy. I don't want a custom shop trashed up guitar gold top with woody on it for any price. I like nice guitars

    Not a fan of relic’d guitars. But at least this one is made to mimic an existing guitar. I’m even ok with the stickers. But I surely wouldn’t pay 9k for a beat up looking Gibson. I’m sure it’s a fantastic playing guitar. All my custom shop gibbys are phenomenal. But for that kind of cheddar I could get an R9 and another Gibson or two on the used market. Even if I wanted a Mike Ness clone, I’d prob buy an original players grade for 2-4K, buy the decals and still get out for less than half. AND have an original. Just my 2c 🤘🏻. Cool review though
