Even the “chipmunk squeaky” was Geoff 😂 One of his most beautiful tenor moments to date, imo. Especially because it was an octave jump.
I have to respectfully disagree. Geoff goes up to D5 there in falsetto while theres Alexa with B5 on top of that with that "floaty chipmunk" sound.
@@agentcorba I know. I guess it depends on which note he meant, since the notes are a bit layered. I was just guessing he was referring to Geoff’s D5.
@@alyssadaniels7841 I'm pretty sure Geoff goes to the end of the drawn-out last syllable of the word "enemy," in his falsetto range; it sure sounds like Geoff's falsetto (very much like the lead part near the end of Oogie Boogie for instance). Although yes, somebody, possibly AleXa, is singing an even higher note for harmony during the last bit of it. And then of course Geoff promptly returns to the sub-basement whence he came, because of course he does, and the lead part is picked up by AleXa (who echoes "my enemy" before going on to the next line).
Geoff doesn't go as high as hell. He goes as high as heaven, and as low as hell.
The Geoff laugh is very sinister but I’m here for it! ❤🏴

Geoff woke up that morning and chose violence.
That squeaky note was low 5th octave-I’m thinking Geoff can manage it. And when Layne starts making perc sounds that don’t have a name, you know he’s a beast. Doesn’t Eli look amazing in that blue vest? And Cesar-the intensity!! I’d love to see another collaboration with AleXa-the blend of their voices was gorgeous!

Don't know if you know AleXa. She is American but is working as a Kpop artist in South Korea. She approached VP to do this with her, and recorded and filmed herself there on a green screen. The first time I heard this one I thought they'd brought a lion in to make those sounds. :)

First, I didn't realize that you haven't seen Geoff's Headless Horseman. When you know, you know.
Second, he did hand that run off to AleXa, but hit the first high note of that run.
Third, since AleXa was in another country (South Korea) and did this all on green screen, the cinematography is amazing!
Fourth, she tried to teach Voiceplay much more elaborate choreography, but the old guys just could not manage it! ;)

Talking about Geoff's demonic laugh, you have to listen to their mini of horror shows. He's great but it's Layne's part that gives me the chills. You should also listen to their Nirvana mini. Tomi P does a version of Hellfire from The Hunchback that will literally make you speechless--he has a SEVEN octave range and uses every bit of it in Hellfire.
If that laugh doesn't qualify Geoff as Disney Villain, I don't know what will.

Geoff in "I See Fire" - singing tenor and still ONLY his chest range (with a bit of mix) and only a single subharmonic despite singing down into hellfires.
Geoff in "Enemy" - Up to a freaking A5... and we know that's still easily within his head voice, NOT falsetto. (He hit Bb5 in "Peaches".) Then his 808 drop to what is likely an A0 growl. His entire 5 octave range. The man sings EVERYTHING.
And then there's Layne with his... I dunno "snort-boxing?" Cesar singing falsetto like an angel's feather, while Eli sings so gritty the man could be sandpaper.
I can't help wondering how many 'takes' it took Geoff to get that slow slide down the scale to meet his standards.
Hate to break you but that was all Geoff. His range is huge. They all have large ranges but Geoff’s is phenomenal 😊

Because you support Hufflepuff AND you commented on how good Geoff looks here - I have to tell you that he reminds me so much of MovieSnape with that dyed black hair and that particular outfit. I gotta agree - Yummy! And yes - that was him on that high note.
As for the rest of them, Cesar & Eli both sounded amazing here. Alexa was really great and Layne was darn near impossible to believe (and quite a groove).
Alexa was new to me when I first saw this but she certainly made a wonderful quirky Jinx. You also should know that she was in Korea filming with green screen. Eli put her in the scene and wow the reflections of her on the black floor are an outrageous bit of computer work. He also did the background image. His talent in that field is right up there with his singing talent - and literally 'UnReal'.
Geoff didn't dye his hair for this. If you look at the color saturation, especially on skin tones, you can see everything is darker. VoicePlay included Geoff's jacket in a charity auction, and it was brick red, not the maroon that it appears here.
I love how voice play did this song. Also, I think you would love some of AleXas solo work. She is an amazing singer, dancer and actor, her music videos are like little movies.

Love this vid - didn't know the song at all until I heard VP's version but it's one of my faves by them.
I believe Geoff did most of that high part but AleXa took the highest point of it. I don't know what it is about them but these bass singers do appear to have huge vocal ranges - Geoff, Tim, Jonathan, Colm, Peter Barber, Tomi P etc. all seemingly can go from subterranean to the stars vocally and I love to hear it!

I would call that noise "warthog" although anything in the swine family would probably do. How it would occur to somebody to include a warthog in an Imagine Dragons song is for somebody of a higher paygrade than myself to figure out, but as usual, it works perfectly.
