I agree on liking VoicePlay’s version better. When they do their arrangements they always try to make it their own, less repetitive and more interesting. This arrangement was made by Layne, the beatboxer together with Eli, the rock tenor. They do almost all of their arrangements themselves, Layne and Geoff (Mr bass guy) does most of them. Subscribed to your channel and waiting for more VoicePlay reactions and some from Geoff’s solo channel?

Alexa is a K-pop star, won the best American song a couple of years again. She wanted to work with VoicePlay on this, of course it was Covid time and she couldn't fly from S. Korea to the states. She did her audio and video parts and sent them on to VP, Eli incorporated the video.
Geoff dropped his latest solo - Unshaken - today!

VP has done Warriors too. You'll get to see VioLayne too.

The VoicePlay version is so dynamic which makes it ear candy for me. Geoff, the bass, hit incredible high to low on this. The beatboxing was such a driving force and then the harmonies and adding AleXa for the female guest artist was excellent.
I appreciate you letting the patreon credits roll since VoicePlay is independent and theeir patreons are a significant source of funding.

I had never heard of the song and because I don’t pay a lot of attention to names I’m not sure I ever heard the name of the band. But after VoicePlay said they were going to do this cover I went out to check the original. The version I found was the second version you viewed.
I was intrigued enough to actually subscribe to Netflix for a couple of months so I could watch the series Arcane that this is the theme for. That gave me an idea of why AleXa is acting so strangely in the video.
I also found out that I like a lot of the music that Imagine Dragons produced. Another great one that they did that was also by Imagine Dragons is their cover of Warrior which was for a League of Legends tournament. Again, I did check out the original music sent to the video game footage so I could get an idea of what was going on and I think that helped my appreciation of it because I don’t do video games.
VoicePlay has introduced me to a lot of bands that I may have heard the music for peripherally but never really paid attention to who was doing it. I’ve discovered an appreciation for a lot of different bands that I somehow overlooked in the past. I think however that I almost always enjoy VoicePlay’s version better because of the way they are arranged. In addition because they are a capella I can always hear the lyrics. For a lot of groups I find the instrumentation too overwhelming (loud) and I miss a lot of the lyrics. Sometimes the lyrics are the reason a song connects to me.
By the way, when Geoff does do one of those really long bass notes and it moves into the higher register - that is him the whole time all the way up.

Like a lot of Voiceplay stuff, I never heard this before they did it. I'm very old, so that's probably why.
Alexa is an American born, award winning K-Pop star and was in Korea when this was recorded. She approached Voiceplay to do this collaboration.
    Love their version!!

Ok. So great introduction. Try Warriors. Dream on. Nothing Else Matters. 7 Nation Army. One of my favorites is Phantom. So many just fantastic works. VP wins hands down with their creativity.

VoicePlay certainly *could* have done the rap part of this song. They've done rap parts in numerous songs, including some where you definitely wouldn't expect it (e.g., Jingle Bells) and some where you definitely would (e.g., My Shot). Sometimes they make it so you barely even notice it's rap (e.g., Friends on the Other Side), sometimes they open with it (e.g., Twenty-One Pilots), and sometimes they slap you in the face with it out of nowhere, e.g., they added a very prominent and completely unexpected original rap part to the climax of Valhalla Calling, that was significantly more complex than the one they didn't include here, and they made it work. I'm pretty sure every current member and several past members of the group can rap. They easily could have included the rap part here. They chose not to; and yeah, I think I can maybe see why.

Enemy exist as an Imagine Dragon song, and as part of soundtrack of the show Arcane. The rap part is from the show soundtrack, the "non-rap" version is the ID OG one.

The live performance is actually two different songs. The first one is Build That Wall from the SuperGiant video game Bastion, which was composed and performed by Darren Korb (who is actually playing the guitar in this clip). The second song is Enemy.

I really enjoyed your reaction-thanks! I do like Voice Play's cover better and I am glad they left out the rapping part. I am not a big fan of rap either but do like J. None's style of rapping when he does it with Voice Play (J None is the member of Voice Play that is in the Navy but comes back to Voice Play as a frequently featured guest or part time member as many of us think of him now). Eli (bald rock tenor) and Layne (beatboxer) do some rapping on occasion but J None would have been the better choice for the rapping part of this song but he was not in this cover so they probably wanted a different approach to showcase AleXa. You would really enjoy J. None's rapping parts in "Valhalla Calling", "Superstition" and "Mission Impossible/Jingle Bell" even though you don't care much for rapping (trust me!) I really do enjoy the different featured guests that Voice Play uses and what they always bring to a song.

Love getting to see the original Arcane League of Legends video after being familiar with the Voiceplay version -- I immediately recognized the girl with the blue hair as the character AleXa portrays in the VP video -- she almost could have been the model for the artist who drew the digital images. Having heard VP's version first (and more than once) it is more familiar, and I like it a little better, but there were starting with good material -- I do like the ID version.

Thanks for doing the other two versions, I hadn't seen them and didn't know this before VP brought it out. I was surprised by the anime version, because the anime portrayal of the girl wasn't what I thought from the descriptions I'd heard in the comments.... so it was nice to see for myself. Perhaps they were responding to the game and other time frames within the game.

Yep. Gonna go with Voiceplay's version. The others are good, but there's just something so special to a song once Voiceplay does it. Plus, that deep villain laugh by Geoff really makes it for me!

I have never heard this version of Imagine Dragons - I can hear the roots of the song that Voiceplay covered. It's an amazing performance, but to me it exposes the LIMITATIONS of an instrumental version. I heard the way the instruments had to get out of the way of the vocals, and how the vocals had to be separated to be heard on stage and in the audience.
The Voiceplay cover - the way that they have to layer their vocals to HIDE the lack of instruments - it creates such a DYNAMIC performance.., So much more dynamic than the stage performance. It doesn't make it BETTER, it makes it more energizing. The sheer number of layers that they include feels SO much fuller than even the videogame performance.

Same, agree with liking the VP version better -- but it's a cold day and a rare blue moon when I _don't_ like a VP version better. But they just brought their own dynamics and energy and arranging skill and I truly loved how it turned out on this track.

I love Imagine Dragons (so does Voiceplay, apparently, since they’ve done a number of covers of ID songs). And I hate comparing because a cover always stands on the shoulders of the original. Plus if the cover is any good at all, they are making it their own and so it’s different. All that said, here are my comments:
The concert version: Dan is an incredible front man, but not in great voice for this concert, for some reason. Also, he’s at his best when he can get close to the audience-he really feeds off the energy, and the symbiosis also energizes the crowd. That was absent here and I missed it. And yes, this song is really all over the place and kinda weird, and the rap feels kind of abrupt and out of nowhere. This one feels like a bunch of really talented musicians kind of riffing and geeking out. LOL.
The second version (intro to the series?) feels more cohesive because it introduces the characters and tells a little of the story. The rap feels more part of the song here.
Voiceplay’s version leaves out the rap and aims to tell more of a story around Jinx, one of the characters in the show. So it also feels more cohesive. It’s hard not to love Layne’s vocal perc, which pulls it all together so neatly. Plus for those of us who adore Voiceplay, we get to hear each of the members do his wonderful thing, which is always just pure joy.
It’s cool that you did this! Thanks!!

When the video began to play I thought: What the heck is that? Clearly I didn’t know the Original.
But then I heard somewhat familiar tunes. No, thank you. Give me VoicePlay´s version back, please. Please!
Thank you for trying your best to make me like the Original. (laugh, I´m sorry) The Videogame version is much more fun, because of the videoclip. I don´t know the Game and now I have some Background knowledge. I think the VP version is much more energetic. Love it! Thank you for comparing all three. It was fun to watch.
