A bit of trivia: The set they’re using is an abandoned school. Eli was actually a student at that school. So, when he sings about “the past is gone,” he’s literally sitting in the ruins of his own past. Makes it a little more intense, eh?

So glad it hit you like it did me. By the way, that last high note was Ceasar. He didn't want to be told how high it was, but he wanted a chance to hit it. Eli said ok. When he hit it and it sounded that good Eli just simply told him he was hitting it because it sounded that good. They hit me as almost better than the original too. I loved this!!!

Yes, that was Cesar hitting that super-high note - he has an INSANE vocal range! (Fun fact: he and Omar Cardona were roommates for a while. He also went to high school with Ashley Diane, who's also collaborated with Voiceplay in many songs - honestly ,Cesar is like the Kevin Bacon of acapella. 😊) And Omar recently celebrated the arrival of his baby son, so congrats to him!
You might enjoy their cover of In the Hall of the Mountain King, it's similar to the Halo Theme where there's no actual lyrics but they still manage to blow us away.
You can't do classic rock A Cappella, you definitely can't do metal A Cappella! The people who thought that hadn't come across the phenomenal arranging and vocal talents of VoicePlay! If Geoff's low notes turn your spine to jelly you should check out the Bass Gang when you're ready for a new group to watch. It's made up of 4 bass singers working together who all have crazy ranges and also all have their own channels with their own stuff including performing with other singers

Funny you should mention wanting the costumes from this. Every so often, VoicePlay holds a patron Costume and Prop Auction. Everything after the shipping costs go to charity. These costumes are now all owned by various patrons. The journal Eli was writing in during the shoot was also auctioned off, but no one has come forward to tell us what he wrote, so we may never know.

I knew you would absolutely lose your mind over this one! I have played this at least 1000 times. Omar has such a beautiful voice...like a crystal bell. Love him! He's Cesar's bestie, btw :) The highest part of that high note at the end was Cesar. They all harmonized, but Cesar was responsible for that astronomically high note!

This was a high school that either Eli went to or was in his hometown--can't remember which. There were also props from an old horror movie in the basement. It was actually Cesar who hit Tyler's high scream but Eli or Omar could have done it too. Layne and his out of this world beatboxing, and Geoff the bass guitar. Fun fact: during a break Omar and Cesar were doing the song and lift from Dirty Dancing. I agree about the awards for a cappella. It needs to be its own category, not lumped in with a full band. Not sure if you've seen it yet but you HAVE to watch Oogie Boogie. That one is in a class all by itself. Not that they aren't already legends, but the next one up I think is gonna make us all lose our minds. The teaser was just.......um.
This is the second of their post-apocalyptic saga. The first was Warriors (Imagine Dragons) and a third will be coming to TH-cam sometime in May. The story line is there are zombies just off camera and the guys are singing for their lives, going from place to place to survive. Earl and J. None, who were in Warriors, have since been taken by the zombies, and now Geoff, Eli, and Layne have been joined by Cesar and Omar.
Heh, if you weren't prepared for Geoff's low notes in this then you ain't prepared for 'Be Prepared' which VP just released. God, the growling, roaring, low notes he hits as Scar nearly did me in.

There are awards for Acapella music. CARA, Contemporary Acapella Recording Artists. Tim Foust and Chris Rupp won best country Acapella song for Long Black Train last year. They bested Peter Hollens and Adam Chance's, Country Roads in the same category. This year the Bass Gang were nominated for three awards, Best Album, Best Arrangement and Best Collaboration. Winners will be announced next month.

Voiceplay put their own spin on this song, as they always do with their covers. The original was a song about "continuing to dream", sort of a celebration of the careless dreaming of youth. This version made it a song about having grown up. I simply happen to love this version. 🙂

If you really want to hear Cesar belt out a song that nobody gets to hear than please do a reaction video of Voice Play Behind The Scenes Their Live Show singing : If I Loved You ? The song is from Carousel. He just blew me away with this performance. People really need to experience the full extent of Cesar's voice.

I am begging you to do a reaction video of Voice Play / One Minute Musical : Miley Cyrus. The music & lyrics are by Geoff Castallucci. It is absolutely hilarious. Also Voice Play/ One Minute Musical : Light Bulb, music & lyrics are by Eli. You really get to see the playful side of them with these originals . Because they are short you can do them both in one sitting.

The prequel to this post apocalyptic type video is Warriors. They've done the grunge look several times and it's always epic. With most rock covers they do, I end up preferring vps version. I listen to the original and miss Eli's runs, Caesars harmony, and Geoff bass drops.

Too lazy to read all previous posts, so my apologies if this has already been covered. In regards, to the "something added in post" to that little run Omar did: I believe you are technically correct, but it sounds to me like all they did was add a track just below (pitchwise) Omar's voice, they didn't actually alter his vocals directly. I could be wrong.

Lovely reaction! I feel ya, they're incredible at creating music that that drives up the adrenaline and makes you want to move! It almost feels like anthems for warriors at times. 9.5/10 times I prefer VoicePlay's version of a song to the original! Something about their arrangements makes it grow on me even if at first I wasn't keen on it.
Layne shows off his skills once in a while live, and the "surround sound" effect was one of them! Like others have said, Cesar is on the high G#5 here! Eli and Omar can get up there as well as we've heard - They're all so insanely skilled.
I highly recommend checking out Mortius' reaction to this one, as he got Cesar himself to join him! It's an incredibly fun video, with a lot of points I think you'd agree with them on but also just some really heart-warming stories. He's stated multiple times that Omar is his best friend and I believe he states in that video that this shoot was special to him because Omar was there with him! Cesar is generally such a ray of sunshine, but that part always melts my heart 🥰

I love you! Your enthusiasm, your expressiveness, even your expressions are all just so infectious! It is a total joy to share your joy at discovering all these wonderful a cappella groups. For some great insight into this particular song, Mortius had Caesar on the video with him for his first watch and it's definitely worth watching. Another group to add to the obsession is The Bass Gang. They've never met in person (2 live in the USA, 1 in Egypt and 1 in The Czech Republic) but have been collabbing (sp?) for just over 2 years now and all are incredible. I recently found the Bass Gang - they are great! Love their collaboration with Tim - it's such an upbeat and happy vibe. Also love their collab. with Jonathan Young. His voice really made that particular piece something else!

I would like to recommend watching some of their...other types of songs. Their Aca Top 10 are so great. And they are nearly livefeeling. And they´re fun!
If you want to hear more of Layne singing, The little mermaid medley or the moana medley or songs like True colors or Can´t help falling in love...

Love your reactions, everything you ask us about you will find in the Credits. Also, you're in need of a three-point harness to keep you in your chair. Cesar asked if he could make the last high note. It's all Cesar. If you're a patron they do auctions of costumes etc. and donate the money to the arts. They will e-mail you and post on Patreon. Omar was on this last season of The Voice. I enjoy going back and watching all the BTS videos on Patreon they are such a bunch of characters.

This was the first voiceplay release that I saw when I first got obsessed with them, and I'm so glad it was the first. They did such an amazing job with this. When you red-listen, listen carefully as the Three build up to that high note. Geoff is also building…but a few octaves below.
I agree wholeheartedly your comment about the lyrics. I felt that way about Nothing Else Matters as well. Beautiful song, but I had never really appreciated it until their cover.
I don’t always process quickly enough auditorily so frequently have to look at lyrics in written form for them to actually click. But every time they do something I can really process the lyrics more easily. Another one that I’ve heard forever (since I am old enough to remember when Cyndi Lauper released it), is True Colors. I had sung along with the song sometimes and never really grasped the entirety of what she was trying to say.
I had to laugh when you jumped up and worried about knocking things over. I cannot wait until you see Hoist the Colours. You recently said you wanted to be a pirate🏴☠️!! One reactor got so overwhelmed that he jumped up and walked out of the room for a second forgetting that he was only in his boxers . It broke quite a few reactors so you might want to get a seat belt for that one.
You also should listen to My Mother Told Me where they are Vikings. It will prepare you for their next release. Or at least it’ll give you a little warning. I’ll be interested to see what you think of Layne’s zipper sound. I don’t know any other way to describe that weird noise he makes in that song.
I really wish they kept the weird build-up bit after the first verse where they're on like an augmented dominant 7 chord and one voice does this slow chromatic movement, that's such an iconic part of the original they threw out, and the dubstep-ish dead cuts were a bit unnecessary, but overall a really cool arrangement
