Mack’s an original and I think he’s a riot, but I would look at a few more reviews to get a sense of who this is for. (Sounds like if you've got a friend or two to play with, then WWZ might be worth it). But Mack has zero tolerance for 3rd person games, and high standards, which is great. But it’s a $40 game, and other reviews are kinder and find more fun in it... Truthfully, I would recommend Deep Rock Galactic and Vermintide 2 as two of the most compelling co-op experiences available right now... And I’m hopeful for GTFO... but we’ll see.
@@axle1717 same here, I think Days Gone looks uninteresting, not sure why but the original trailer of Days Gone looks alot better then what we have seen now.
Has much more content than this game, and the horde mechanic looks way better this just looks very very repetative even what the characters say during fights is the same thing over and over again
Amazing how people have such different opinions, totally enjoying playing it, graphics and gameplay great for a game I paid £28.99 for, really fun to play and the mechanics where there are so many enemies onscreen at the one time not seen in a game - does it have amazing replay - ability, i think to a certain extent with all the upgrades on weapons and classes, must will definitely need some more dlc.
Urban Twilight Steam offers far more than Epic games so it would be ludicrous to think they should lower their take down to Epics, though they should a little bit so more big devs come back...
That;s not always necissarily true, for example direct x 12 not having full hbao support etc.I noticed something weird with switching to vulkan myself but i can't pinpoint what it is. I'm not saying it made the graphically fidelity any better but it did something to the look of how the game was being rendered.
@@JoeySav I said, "on its own". ambient occlusion is not tied to a specific API. technically it's true that some graphical features are not present in games with the older version of DirectX but APIs are nothing but a way of communication.
@@missininaction3680 The point still stands features that are connected to an API can make a game look/better or worse. Not saying that's the case with WWZ but it can happen .
@@JoeySav saying APIs can make a game look better or worse is like saying a more powerful graphic card can make a game look better. low-level APIs become a thing because of overhead otherwise multiple graphical features can be achieved with different APIs. APIs don't do anything on their own but I get what you're saying.
I'm not a big L4D fan, but I still appreciate the game, because it plays good, feels good, still has a big playerbase (L4D2) and there are no glaring problems with it. Whenever a friend brought up Wolrd War Z (because "OMG all the streamers play it, must be amazing!"), I just had to ask: how is this better than L4D2? And besides the graphics, there isn't any improvement... notthing that I'd consider objectively better and relevant at least.
It is different I guess. On a design standpoint Left 4 Dead is far superior but hey, why not have both. They update WWZ, you go back to WWZ. You get bored? You play L4D. Of course if you're willing to spend 30 bucks
"incredibly popular" Thats a funny way of saying incredibly forgettable even when the movie came out during the height of the zombie craze a few years ago. They picked a hell of a time to make a game about a mediocre at best movie nobody even remembers anymore.
I do want to bring the attention to the ps4 side of this game. Yesterday on the 26th of April I bought it 10 days after release. When I booted up the game it immediately had connection issues that would not let you play online. This issue also would not let you play past the first 1 chapter and would rinder any further gameplay literally unplayable. The dev's are aware of the issue and seem to have been sense the 16th of April saying they are going to fix the issue. But a huge red flag went up after see it was a issue 10 days after the fact. Luckily I just got the game and Sony refunded me right away even though I did not fall in line with their refund policy. I also live on the east coast west nc so it may just be a issue with servers in my area.
@Isaak There is verses mode. 4v4s king of the hill and more. For a £30 game it's not bad. It could have been better definitely. Theres alot of improvements to be made. For awhile we have been receiving games for £55 that have no conent. Comparing that to World War Z, I would say it's worth it.
Saw your review and ACG gave it a buy rate.. Took a chance on acg and I played it. It's not complex, young gamers will love this... It's simple and fun.. don't be left for dead fan you'll hate this because it's trying to be your beloved game... if your not die hard LFD fan.. buy it..
I think I'd enjoy it playing on the higher difficulties as friendly fire matters a lot more on them. A lot of the criticisms here sound very subjective so I think I'll buy it anyway, though might wait for a sale.
Higher difficulty does nothing to fix the glaring issues with game, namely the boring, short campaign and the utterly terrible special zombies, have fun defending against a horde over and over again, it's fun for an hour.
Mack, you could've done this game more justice. Game on pc was having issues with servers when it released, but it was fixed hours after it popped. "Classes are boring and not much difference and pretty much the same" You haven't level them to the max level yet and tried the max difficulty. That's why the progress is there so you can come back and try out the other difficulties first. Come on Mack...game is fun and its not a shitshow like you say it is.
That's... kinda the one thing I sorta dislike with Mack. Whenever HE doesn't personally enjoy something, he immediately calls it "generic, boring, mindless" etc. when in fact there are tons of people enjoying the game. I for one really like it so far.
People have very low standards these days, this game proves that completely, I mean compare this to L4D and it loses in every department other than weapons. How the hell can people then say the game is great and worth £31? I have played the game on high difficulty and low difficulty, with friends and with bots and it's mediocre at best. The special zombies totally suck, I mean they are just a complete disaster compared to L4D. The PC servers had nothing to do with the low amount of player in the game, hell I kept seeing the same random people playing and I hardly ever got to start a new game with randoms, it was always mid game. The campaigns are short, repetitive and boring, all you do is defend against the horde most of the time. Hey am proud that only myself and a few other reviewers have told the truth about this game, people need to get some standards imo, this game should and could have been way, way better, no excuses, you have L4D as a template, this is a lazy copy.
@@WorthABuyreviews Considering the size of their development team and their budget, I think they did a pretty good job. It took me almost 15 hours to beat the campaign on hard mode, and that's without replaying any missions. I will totally do so tho, on harder difficulties as I level more of my classes up and unlock better perks. The fact that they managed to cram in 12 missions + 5 multiplayer modes into a 35 dollar game is impressive to me, but it doesn't have to be to you. They are also going to release more missions and "chapters" as free DLC later on, giving players even more content for their money. To quote Skill Up: "Not every game has to be a 9/10 or 10/10 masterpiece. Sometimes, all we really need is a nice, 7/10 game for a cheaper price that just feels good to play to fill the void."
Thanks for that Z But I feel like you really lose me when you start complaining about third person shooters. Anything can be done poorly, but third person isn't inherently bad. This game can do it poorly, while other games it's not the same. I can clearly see in this game that the player takes up about 1/3 or more of the total screen at times, which is ridiculous, but I've had many games where it's extremely easy to shoot what I want, when I want, with angles, at much faster paces.
Actually, I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree on this one. Bought it on release and have been playing it with my mates for a couple of days now, and we've all had a complete blast. It's kinda weird actually, I'm usually not the biggest fan of horde shooters like this or L4D, but for some reason I just can't seem to get enough of this game. Well worth it for 35 bucks in my opinion. Still tho, I respect Mack's opinion, and I can definitely see where he's coming from. I just personally think the good outweighs the bad.
I've been playing the game for a few days and I'm enjoying it, but after nearly 3 years the Vulkan issue still exists, and the issue where if you're moving and the game hitches, it ignores the keys/buttons you currently have held down so your character stops and you have to press the keys/buttons again exists as well.
To each their own. I can see you don't like this game, but to me all the things you hate about it I appreciate. I'm pleasantly surprised by this title, but I get that some other people might be disappointed.
The World War Z movie was a festering pile of dung, so as bad as this, it can't be worse than that! It's a shame that the original Max Brooks book that was a really good read, has never translated well to any platform.
Don't waste your time or money. Biggest monumental failure I've ever seen worst game I've ever played, 4 campaigns only 3 levels weapons all the same not a looter shooter the vids are lying to everyone. Trust me wasted 40 dollars.

I don’t see what’s so different now from any time before: most games sucked before as they do now. Generally it’s the 10% that are good in just about anything.
Only just got this - it’s really fun. Epic moments! Not as sophisticated as L4D - in the randomisation, AI Director and special Zombies (spawn points are often the same) which seem less impactful and derivative. But love the base defence elements and big bold artistic aesthetic. Cool Characters. It’s a AA game right? So not expecting too much. Got for £10. Thoroughly enjoying it,
Everytime i encounter these kind of Copy and Paste failure, the more i miss Valve making games. Seriously every single game of Valve is masterpiece with immortal longevity.
That's perspective, bought it for 10 bucks thinking it should be better a year from release and the gameplay is really clunky. Review seems pretty on point to me, honestly thought I'd rather play left for dead. Refund works great though 👍
Left 4 Dead 2 still has 11,000 -15,000 players at any time still playing the game. and this game can barely fill a server. That says bounds about the epic store.
That's a new joke! How do you get a third person perspective fan to play a first person perspective game? Blutac a picture of the character to their monitor. Badum-tsshh!
as new years resolution i decided i will use no client aside steam, if u need ubisoft, EA or epic their clients to play/purchase i simply refuse to buy it. i don't have anything else installed aside the stuff for the vive and steam atm and i'm happy with it
I feek the lack of player count it due to it being on epic store rather than steam which would have probably seen sone serious good moda come out. Personally I like the game its super casual and I managed to play for 4hrs solid before retiring to bed. First time in ages I have spent so much time gaming.
I find games super quick. Both PvP and PvE. I'm pretty sure he reviewing this before the servers came up and before they added more servers because they actually had way more players than they expected.
@@bhamacuk I don't particularly think there is anything wrong with it. I just don't think its as popular as steam so people don't but games from there as there expecting a low player count. Its like a weird chicken and egg situation. I've also heard some gamers say they prefer one platform for their games so steam generally seems a good fit plus their sales are really good. I haven't had an issue with filling a game with players and this was me playing between 8pm to midnight UK.
Goed revieuw friend, the game is just what i thought it would be. A friend of mine bought this on pre order and canceled it beceauce i told him this games is going on sale really soon. Nice work....
Agreed, I loved L4D 1 and 2, but Dying Light was truly a blast to play alone and with friends, I cannot wait for DL2 to release, I just hope it's not EPIC exclusive or have some dumb as hell pre order packages.
Aladeenmadafaka you mean matchmaking features? As it is not a game with dedicated servers, it doesn't run on "Epic's servers". It's the same with Steam, Valve hosts matchmaking, not the actual multiplayer game.
I have to disagree man, usually I'm with you but this game is worth the 40$. Its a great game to play with your buddies and the people that are against it are just mad at Epic for some reason. After playing the game there really isn't "clunkyness" and its smooth. Sure theres a few things here and there they could patch but nothing major at all. The game is 4-5 hours on easy and on the tougher difficulties it's a challenge. The design is a mix between. L4D and Division and blends great! So far this is the only negative review I've seen. Give it another spin. Cheers everyone.
Not sure how you only got 5 hours and got bored of the gameplay. Are you on easy? We have been playing as a group of 4 friends on insane. Have over 5 hours clocked and still haven't passed the first episode, plenty of fun and challenging.
But he's right. I'm replaying old and retro games that I've never played (so the nostalgia factor doesn't affect), and they're better than modern sterile AAA games, where there's nothing but the story at all.
@@deadshota736 Not really. I love the new restart of XCOM, and Warhammer: Total War. I also really like the approach on shooters from "Flying Wild Hog" (Hard Reset, Shadow Warrior) and "Tripwire Interactive" (Killing Floor 2). 0:27 what, do they pronounce the letter z as zed instead of zee in europe? Bloody hell that's a load of biscuits, mate. By the queen I think I need a holiday
I think it varies from country to country. For example in Finland we say zeta or "tset". And I'm pretty sure that the German, French, Spanish, Dutch etc. do not say "Zed" either 🤔
I’ve played the game and I really enjoy it, if u have a group to play it with it’s fun especially the difficulty’s, they r challenging. The multiplayer is ok but still gives a good time.
Yes I felt this and felt the review suffers , as its also not many things but it is what it is. I thought it was fun but limited. Too expensive and epic exclusive kills it but def worth your time with friends when its released on steam sale. It will become a cult hit in time as its good fun especially if they add more to it for free.

"Most games suck " Yup. Couldn't agree more. It's hard to find a game nowadays that is as fun as some of the games I used to play in the Sega Genesis. You can put lipstick on a pig. But it's still a pig.
Same old generic bollocks. Looks nothing but a complete cash grab. I’m bored just even viewing never mind playing it. Developers these days have no imagination or care.. it’s all about the quick pound.. oh and anything on epic store and not steam they can ram it up their shite box too
Old vid and game but the bit about 3rd person at the end of the video 10:19 is EXACTLY what I hate 3rd person games. This is how Ghost Recon was ruined as you get the BS your character always blocks your view. Though Wildlands has a 1st person mod now its like a new game, just wish Breakpoint will get one some day as well. Rant over.
Sometimes I think the publishers and marketers of these games just dont understand. Epic games have a much smaller player base than Steam. A lot of people refuse to use it or buy games from it. I know Valve takes a bigger cut, but surely the larger player base would mean the profits would be higher overall. And why the heck is the press and hold to pick up items still a thing. It was terrible when Ubisoft started implementing it, and it's terrible now. At least make it quicker!!
For a team of very few people 12 I think I like the game they did a good job and for there first game i think they copied a formula and in my opinion it works I think it’s definitely a good game and worth 35 retail I’m happy they didn’t overcharge sure it has its issues but as a first full game from this developer it’s a decent effort

But it’s a $40 game, and other reviews are kinder and find more fun in it... Truthfully, I would recommend Deep Rock Galactic and Vermintide 2 as two of the most compelling co-op experiences available right now... And I’m hopeful for GTFO... but we’ll see.

Will you be reviewing the halo games once they release on steam? Also screw Epic.
Was just thinking about this
Halo on steammmmmmm
Don't blame epic, they are just offering a great deal. Blame the devs and publishers for allowing the exclusive part.
Exitoz this was bound to happen at some point. Blame Valve for sitting on their fat asses.
Urban Twilight Steam offers far more than Epic games so it would be ludicrous to think they should lower their take down to Epics, though they should a little bit so more big devs come back...
Vulkan looks better than Directx11? an API doesn't make a game look better or worse on its own.
@@missininaction3680 you contradict yourself
@@missininaction3680 The point still stands features that are connected to an API can make a game look/better or worse. Not saying that's the case with WWZ but it can happen .

What made Left for Dead 1/2 for me was the versus mode. Having classes for survivors actually sounds like a good idea in that context.
If world war z had versus mode where you can play zombies, it would be amazing.
It does now with different classes to the campaign mode tailored for versus
Of course if you're willing to spend 30 bucks
left 4 dead is about running through levels. world war z has a lot of defending
"incredibly popular"
Thats a funny way of saying incredibly forgettable even when the movie came out during the height of the zombie craze a few years ago. They picked a hell of a time to make a game about a mediocre at best movie nobody even remembers anymore.
I bet its out of hope to get some sales from folk waiting for days gone that need a cheap fix...thats my thoughts
Shut the fuck up, world war z is one of my favorite movie of all time. How dare you speak of the movie like that
The movie is utter garbage, the book is highly overrated as well. Guess the game just follows the trend.

Personally iv been playing the game with 3 other friends. Its quite fun playing with friends, i can see why it would get boring if you play alone.
@Isaak I agree that would have been cool
The waiting for the circle to go round to pick something up is probably so that u don't accidently tap a button and lose your guns
Saw your review and ACG gave it a buy rate..
Took a chance on acg and I played it.
It's not complex, young gamers will love this... It's simple and fun.. don't be left for dead fan you'll hate this because it's trying to be your beloved game... if your not die hard LFD fan.. buy it..
I'm a die hard L4D fan and absolutely love WWZ.
Aye the special zombies don't look that special. I'm hoping they'll beef them up or add new ones in the next dlc.
Best thing to do is watch multiple reviews. Never fanboy one reviewer
Game reviews are subjective.
Mack, you could've done this game more justice. Game on pc was having issues with servers when it released, but it was fixed hours after it popped.
"Classes are boring and not much difference and pretty much the same"
You haven't level them to the max level yet and tried the max difficulty. That's why the progress is there so you can come back and try out the other difficulties first.
Come on Mack...game is fun and its not a shitshow like you say it is.
If it's not his type of game it's a trash game he did this with Rising storm Vietnam. He said the game sucked because he got his ass beat up on it
That's... kinda the one thing I sorta dislike with Mack.
@@TheRealmOfTF amen on that final paragraph
Am I the only one who thinks this looks a lot like The Division got an L4D fan mod?
Nope. That's exactly what it looks like.

But I feel like you really lose me when you start complaining about third person shooters. Anything can be done poorly, but third person isn't inherently bad. This game can do it poorly, while other games it's not the same. I can clearly see in this game that the player takes up about 1/3 or more of the total screen at times, which is ridiculous, but I've had many games where it's extremely easy to shoot what I want, when I want, with angles, at much faster paces.
gears of war 3 is probably the pinnacle of third person control.
