Speaking of games a bit like Left 4 Dead: If you want something really well-designed to scratch that particular itch, you can't really go wrong with Warhammer Vermintide 2. Increased focus on melee combat, and proper weighty 1st-person combat to boot, decent loot progression which gives each class a variety of weapons to suit a bunch of different playing styles, a well-balanced levelling system, funny dialogue/banter between characters, and chiefly well-balanced encounters during gameplay with a decent amount of original extras, chiefly extra special enemy types apart from your garden variety Hunter (Assassin), Jockey/Smoker (Packmaster), Spitter (Plaguerat) and Tank (Rat-Ogre), such as the Ratling Gunner, Warpfire Thrower (a bit like the Plaguerat but can teleport), and Chaos Warriors.

They even start you out on a highrise rooftop nearly identical to the start of L4D2, even the exit door being on the same side, the staircase direction and layout being the same, etc lol.
what I learned last year, is that if something is fun in the past, its probably still fun today. fun has no expiration date. thats why the 80s retro is coming back, and why indie games are a thing. and why this game seems good.
"There hasn't been a new Left 4 Dead game in 10 years." Yeah, but why does no one mention the Warhammer Vermintide series before this as a tide-over...?
ZM Dumpbox the projectile game isn’t satisfying enough, and I think the “game director” element is poorly executed. It’s like you can run through a level relatively unscathed, and then it dumps a pile of strong enemies on you right at the end. I loved it at first but quickly grew to dislike it.
I've been playing the PC version and haven't ever experienced a crash yet but I've heard plenty about them on PS4 and some people on PC. That's a shame, I've really been enjoying it a lot.

Aha - you made a mistake. The Bloated is called the BOOMER. You're welcome.
Looks good. I absolutely loved Lef 4 Dead. Got about 800 hours on it in my steam account.
were those 800 hours playing Infected Game mode Or Co-op in a Loop of the same 5 maps? because this game Multiplayer Is Mediocre at best 4 on 4 Human Domination and king of the hill
Also left for dead had audio cues going off each time the special zombies were around. The music would always cue you in if you were in danger.. this does look fun though!
so it’s a l4d ripoff.
but uh, it a semi-good ripoff...?
Yea it's a good clone
Someone needs to fill the void, I guess. Valve certainly ain’t.
@@mistwolf yea
It's really good
They even start you out on a highrise rooftop nearly identical to the start of L4D2, even the exit door being on the same side, the staircase direction and layout being the same, etc lol.
what I learned last year, is that if something is fun in the past, its probably still fun today. fun has no expiration date.
thats why the 80s retro is coming back, and why indie games are a thing. and why this game seems good.
And both game and movie are complete bastardizations of the book.
The book easily tops telltale's Walking Dead at it's best.
at its best?, at its worst it tops telltale's and kirkman's work!
Books are always better.
Except Twilight. Fuck this shite.
@@murciadoxial8056 I meant that WWZ the book is better than Walking Dead even when Walking Dead is putting on it's A game
@@TheDoctor423 oh, alright, I get it now.
Texelion 3D prints what about fifty shades of GAYYYY?
Damn it!
Now I gotta look up and watch the Grandstand intro.
Thanks Jim.
I'm not mad about them stealing the idea, if Valve did their job and just made games we loved to play this wouldn't exist.
The S-Club 7 "Don't Stop Movin'" part made me smile.
Yeah, I enjoyed World War Z as well. Entertaining.
Gotta love that use of S-Club 7!
That Rachel bird ( the brunette) was fit as fuck from that group. Absolute worldy.
Dont worry jim, I liked the movie too. Thought it was great and i loved the zombie swarms too!
5:02 Anyone notice that one of the zombies coming in from the right isn't moving at all and is gliding along the ground
"There hasn't been a new Left 4 Dead game in 10 years."
Yeah, but why does no one mention the Warhammer Vermintide series before this as a tide-over...?
ZM Dumpbox the projectile game isn’t satisfying enough, and I think the “game director” element is poorly executed. It’s like you can run through a level relatively unscathed, and then it dumps a pile of strong enemies on you right at the end. I loved it at first but quickly grew to dislike it.
'Tideover' implies there's a chance of a new one coming. That would be a mistake to put hope on.
Yeah. I stopped holding my breath for that years ago :|
This looks like so much fun. I got a thrill just watching the massive hordes of zombies charging
I never had an issue with the game dropping, or any bug for that matter. I play on the Xbox 1X.
Yeah I have not noticed any issues on the Xbox.
We've got a saying in the Netherlands that translates to the slightly clunkier sounding "Better well nicked than poorly thought up."
I've been playing the PC version and haven't ever experienced a crash yet but I've heard plenty about them on PS4 and some people on PC. That's a shame, I've really been enjoying it a lot.
We’re never getting L4D3. So this, this game makes me happy. All I need is a level, lots of zombies, and fun shooting.
Des Lynam is going to sue.
Only the second-best Des to host Countdown
I saw this on the shelf at work and realized I forgot it was even coming out.
"Decent third person mockery of left 4 dead"
FUN FACT: Max Brooks, author of the World War Z book, was based on Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft (in a genetic sense, as they are his parents.)
Can confirm it's fun. It's honestly better than left for dead 2 so I'm happy. I've been asking for LFD 3 forever.
I don't know, what more could L4D3 do to the formula without it feeling bloated? The Vermintide games have been a good substitute.
Short-form Coop is one of my favorite genres. Always happy to see more, especially when promising stuff like Friday the 13th and Evolve end up not panning out.
It’s been awhile since I heard Jim not upset and raging at a shite game lol
its not shit game, its just generic zombie game, that is crappy knock off of better game/s, better skip this game and just get left 4 dead 1 or 2 or both
@@kyotheman69 L4D doesn't have the tidal wave of zombies that I want. This does.
Honestly thank goodness as I have been getting sick of the negative content. I mentioned it in a recent post. I get his gig and I appreciate how he keeps us informed of what we need to know in the gaming industry but I think pretty much we know everything now. I hope he mixes in different types of content in the future. Funny thing was when Boglins came to being I could not believe what I was seeing with videos about that but now I miss the videos because they offset the idiocy that he talks about non stop related to the gaming industry.
@@DeViLzzz2006 I guess you missed the videos of Yoshi's Crafted World* and Hypnospace Outlaw**, which Jim clearly enjoyed, but judging by their viewers numbers, less than half of you guys watched.
Don't complain about Jim's lack of positive videos if you don't watch them.

Yeah. It’s garbage
No issues on Xbox One X yet thankfully. So if you can give it a go there.
Crispy Biscuit I tried it and it’s actually pretty smooth
Train to Busan is one of my personal favorite zombie movies; though, the ending is pretty shit.
For cinematic zomb hordes you till cannot beat the intro to Day of the Dead, so so so good
WWZ: *exists*
Jim/Everyone/Salty l4d players: This is l4d.
L4d is not something you need to pray. L4d is just a game who used the Zombie formula. Don't shit on the game without sense plsss
Don't shit on their criticism without sense plssssssss - they're saying the game feels like L4D. Call of Duty's zombies don't feel like L4D, there are plenty of games with zombies that play differently from L4D. They're just saying that this game feels similar to L4D.
@@dealwitit6563 Left 4 Dead used a formula. It's not a genre..
because if there were only normal zombies, people would complain.
if today there are special zombie, people complain!
@@tushiesushi except that his comparison was a positive for this game. when he said it basically left4dead he is saying it is using it formula. His criticism was that the special zombies look too generic and that at the moment the game on ps4 is buggy as all hell. besides that he said he enjoy it and love the zombie glomping over like they did in the film. The only other thing he mention as a note was how odd it is to have this based off a 6 year old movie with the same game style of a 11 year old game. If you want to quick analyse something you always compare games to a similar experience.
@@bastionvalehart5546 Agreed
I’m having a ton of fun with it, haven’t encountered any real technical issues on my end personally aside from a few enemy animations going wonky. We are likely to never get a left 4 dead game again so this takes its place quite nicely for the time being.
I bought it today. As an old L4D fan this will definatly bring back those old vibes. For 40 bucks its definatly worth it imo
Servers were down when I first tried to play it first but after that I haven't experienced any crashes. I did have a broken objective but we resolved it by killing eachother and respawning at the last objective
You're not alone Jim, I was quite entertained by the WWZ movie too. I loved it when the super import doctor dies by slipping on the ramp and shooting himself. That was gold.
A Jim Sterling video where he ISN'T ranting about how pants EA is? Have I slipped into an alternate dimension?
I love the part at 1:29 where you can see the Head-Shot Texture swap in.
Before watching this, I literally made sure it was a recent video (and recent video game) because I was (and still am) confused as to why someone would come out with a movie tie-in years after the fact.
I tried it on PC (EPIC game store) and it works perfectly with no technical issues. I played with randos and it was great. Basically left 4 Dead meets Killing Floor 2 with more story than either of those games. Very good looking, nice controls, $35 and no microtransactions. At risk of sounding like a commercial, I recommend it!
Coming soon to Epic Game Store: Radioactive Decay, a shooter about a scientist trapped in an alien takeover at a desert research facility; and Gateway, a quirky puzzle platform using an apparatus that opens the titular gateways between two points in space.
