Mirage Comics TMNT Artist/Writer A.C. Farley once told me to unalive myself on Facebook because I told him that I ate at Chik Fil A and according to him and his leftist mentality, anyone that eats there apparently hates gay people. 🤔
The only current TMNT comic I read is "Saturday Morning Adventures" and I really enjoy it. If Chris were involved on a monthly basis, that would definitely pull me away from it. Once the series wraps, something major is going to have to pull me back in to ever not just give money but the time to look at a current year TMNT book under IDW. Maybe Peter Laird can go back and finish his TMNT Mirage series that is still technically ongoing. Anyways, big turtle fan and loved your rant here. You're heard loud and clear and good luck ever gettin any higher up at IDW to listen. It appears Chris would much rather live in a sea of piranhas than to admit to ever doing anything wrong. It seems like some of his peers feel the same way. That's what happens when you spend life living in a bubble. Once again, great video!
Perfect response. It’s not just IDW where these rude insufferable people abide. They’re spilling over into every space within the comic book industry. Marvel, DC, Image Comics, Darkhorse, IDW. I don’t even understand how they get work other than nepotism. These self entitled “professionals” really suck the fun out of comics. They can’t handle a criticism or review. Certainly, they can’t take responsibility over the FACT that THEIR poor work has led to poor sales, which has put IDW as a company in a desperate situation. It’s repugnant. It’s detestable. It’s just bad business.
They hired people that actively hate the fans and don't care for the property or the comic book medium as a whole. Yet they still deny why the Comic industry is dying while Manga is thriving.
@Tortaviejo123-cb8me That's pretty much is what's going on and that also includes the amount of backstage politicking. The mainstream industry is effectively ran by a clique of grifters who got in not for their talents and it shows. When's the last time we had a real big breakout new fresh writer in the last seven years? Someone who's a real superstar that is destined foe greater things. In the past, writers like Grant Morrison were able to flourish and rise up the ranks but in an industry that's currently bottle-necked by the Whisper Network; they've effectively closed out actual new talents from getting anywhere. It's basically the story of WCW except it's ran by the Kliq and none of them have the talent but yet have the boss by the balls.
This is really disheartening. As someone, who spent years to be a comic artist, it hurts to hear that someone who's got more experience than me in the field, is stooping this low to make threats. Keep fighting a good fight. Turtle Power!
Wished IDW lost the TMNT license already and for the rights to transfer to Skybound Entertainment. I heard that they're new Transformers and G.I. Joe runs are ten times better than anything IDW has produced since the company became political.
You’re kidding, right? This is the same IDW who let Audrey Sitterson keep working with them even after his comments on the 9/11 Remembrance and the outrage over it and only cancelled his GI Joe book because the fandom refused to give him their money. And he’s just one name coming to mind.
Black listing is what THEY do. But what should happen is some sort of reprimand and or cut loose the dead weight at their next review and hire GOOD TALENT.
It is a bummer getting a pay cut, but he should have aimed his frustration s at IDW instead of the people who buy the comics. He should start loking for a gig. He needs to make his own comic or find work with Marvel or DC, because IDW is a sinking ship.
Skybound might've already had it if IDW had not thrown a boatload of money at Paramount. Kirkman has expressed interest in picking up the license so I bet he tried. Hopefully he scoops it up when IDW inevitably goes belly up in a few months.
Frankly i just hate to see this happen. For comic "pros" they really dont seem to realize how Jack Kirby got screwed or why Image Comics was formed in the first place. I always try to find the positives in situations as Saturday Morning Adventures is really the only book of worth out of IDW rn, but i have no problem admitting IDW is a sinking ship at the moment as TMNT and the Godzilla comics really all they got at this point. And i hate to see it as they really did have some great comics outside of the TMNT books. I can only hope the license can maybe get bought by Image as i think there Transformers book is probably my favorite ongoings at the moment.
Hope Skybound Entertainment picks up the TMNT license and make a great run. I agree with your point of view as it's sad to watch the continuous downfall of the comic book industry.
Idw has sonic too, although I haven't really seen the sale numbers. What happened to the mystical reincarnation plot, Sophie Campbell basically fizzled out the most unique part of this series.
@Nebulous8091 Sonic alone can't save IDW and for a company who at one point held the licence for TF, Godzilla, Star Trek and TMNT at the same time; how the fuck are they bleeding money this much?
the only reason I see as to why people would still want to work for idw is because they want to be involved in their favorite franchises that they love like tmnt, sonic......those are the only 2 properties I know idw currently makes. i'm not even talking licensed properties just properties in general lol. and yeah of course it feels special to be involved in something like this but idw is in shambles rn so expecting good pay seems ridiculous. so you only 2 options are to just let your passion for the franchise drive you to stay and just deal with the shit payment due to the state of the company, or the more logical option, learn to spot and leave a sinking ship for once
I hope IDW goes out of business and the property goes to someone who brings it all the way back to its mirage roots. Im a lifelong turtles fanatic and in my opinion the mirage comics are the best iteration.
It's going to be beautifully poetic when IDW goes belly up before Burnham's book comes out and he has to eat his own words because, if IDW's new page rates and "creator incentive" program are any indicator(and they are), that company is finished. IDW's TMNT was my hands down #1 favorite title for years and Sophie Campbell DESTROYED that book. I already had zero interest in the relaunch but handing it over to another overly political 'current day' writer like Jason Aaron didn't help.
To the surprise of nobody, someone over at IDW has been doing some unhinged actions. I’m disappointed, but I’m not surprised. Hope he gets punished for what he said.
I remember once a few years ago there was a post in the cartoonist kayfabe Facebook group about artists/writers at Marvel and DC complaining that the page rates being too low to support yourself. I made some comment very similar to "if you don't like the low pay, then go work for a different company," and as a result, I got dog piled. I like comic tropes' TH-cam channel for the most part, but some of the stuff I've seen him post on social media makes me glad I don't follow him on those platforms anymore.
I was once subscribed to him before unsubbing. Think it was because of the whole April O’Neil’s race debacle. He tried insisting that she was always meant to be black in the Mirage books around the time of Mutant Mayhem when we have her creator’s original notes that revealed that she was to be of asian roots which would have tracked with the Frank Miller influence going on at the time plus, the often-cited comic where she was depicted as black being a later colourised edition of that comic and other stuff that a guy who does comic history as a subject should be able to know yet insists on pushing a false narrative that was created more recently. It’d been one thing to debate the race of April in the early days when TMNT was young but claiming she was always meant to be one thing when we have her creator’s own words and everything that disproves the lie with just a rudimentary search. It’s not only ignorant to outright ignore the evidence at hand but plain disingenuous as well. Authorial intent, word of god and death of the author are a thing but we, the audience can decide wether their statements make sense and be counted as true or chose to disregard because there are problems with it and we’re judging by the finished work since recollection isn’t always reliable. From that moment on, I questioned what else CT have lied about in the past and that is never a good look when your content is all about comic history. It’s the classic unravel effect where once you see or catch them out on a lie, you start distrusting them when they’re not willing to owe up to it. He doubled down on that untrue narrative and stuff like this makes me more glad to cut him out of my feeds because I want someone who covers comic history based on factual truths with a degree of objectiveness and can cite them if I wanted to help someone out. What I don’t want to be lied to and be gaslit like that. I haven’t gone back to his channel because of his willingness to insist on an objectively false narrative rather than insist on the truth.
@rayvenkman2087 Yeah, I remember in his video about Jim Shooter, he had some false information. I'm not sure if CT was disingenuous at the time because of not liking Shooter or if he had just had a bad source, but I was bothered by it. Although his spread of misinformation about the guy doesn't bother me as much as Scott from nerdsync having a hate boner for Shooter.
Contrary to the Western myth, in Soviet Russia people received decent salaries, especially for "shitty jobs", since the working man was valued more than office loafers. The problem is that there was nothing special to spend this salary, except for the necessary things that everyone else has. Also my parents received a apartment from the state for free, after several years of working in production.
I don't blame Russians for being nostalgic for Soviet times. However, you could never convince me to adopt that sort of economic model - I have my own property, an arsenal of firearms, a big house all to myself and my wife, a nice plot of land, investments, and plenty of money in the bank.
